5 out of 5 stars Never ever to find more graceful play!.......2007-03-09

The incredible representation and sound Parkening created by the guitar is
sublimity itself. Though I have listened to many a world-famous guitarist,
I have never been so fascinated as by his play. I couldn't but make intimate friends of mine a present of Parkening's CDs like "In the Spanish Style", through which I felt I could show them what real music is like. I never ever imagine I could find more graceful play than that of Christopher Parkening at least in the world of the guitar.

5 out of 5 stars Grunting and moaning explained.......2006-01-03

I met Parkening in 1972, a few years after this album was first released. I asked him about the "groans" that could be heard. He explained that at the time he let his thoughts wander and thought about the future, when some Swiss moron named Peter Gilman would complain about the recording. Absentmindedly, he groaned at the thought of it all. He told me if ever I should meet Peter that I was to apologize.

Peter, sorry about that.

5 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Classical Guitar.......2005-04-07

My parents had this on vinyl when I was kid. I listened to it a lot in high school when I was listening to a lot of musical styles. This and Parkening's Bach CD are probably my two favorite classical guitar discs.

As a rock/blues/pop guitarist, I've been learning some classical over the last few years. And this disc has been my reference. Parkening's playing is confident and enjoyable. Capricho Arabe stands out as does the Sor studies that he covers.

My only complaint is Leyenda, his performance is less than passionate and the recording doesn't sound EQ'd correctly in a few spots. Other artists have better recordings of this song (John Williams comes to mind).

If you are looking for a great classical guitar CD, this is a great place to start.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection.......2004-05-06

This is the album that made me want to take up classical guitar. Great selection of songs, played with incredible feeling and tone. Brilliant performances of Capricho Arabe, Recuerdos and the Villa-Lobos and Ponce Preludes. His rendition of Romance is what every student should strive for. The student (Parkening) has most definitely learned all of his master's (Segovia) lessons and went even further. Still fresh after 25 years of regular listening.

5 out of 5 stars Parkening in top form.......2004-02-28

Christopher Parkening's technical prowess is in full effect here, showing he's truly the ultimate successor to the great Andres Segovia.

I don't know about grunting, but if you listen closely, there is some noticeable sighing from Parkening on a few of the tracks, especially the third. Presumably, he was getting weary from all the work his fingers were getting in playing those immensely complex arrangements. But to go as for as to say it ruins the recording is ludicrous. In fact, the sighing adds to the intimacy and accessibility of the recording. I had always felt distant while listening to a Parkening album because he sounded TOO polished. He plays great here, but to hear his voice, even in its slightest audible sound, adds to the album's charm.

If you're a classical guitar enthusiast, this album is essential.

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!.......2006-12-23

I would recommend this CD to anyone who loves music--period! Christopher Parkening is unquestionably one of the greatest classical guitarists of all-time. He embodies personal excellence like no other and is a brilliant artist. This CD is a must-have for any classical enthusiast. My favorite pieces include: Tárrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra," "Romance," Bach's "Prelude No. 6," and Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez." There are other versions of these pieces as well, but I always prefer Parkening's renditions, as they are oh so extraordinary--especially the recording of Aranjuez!! Other guitarists never seem to capture the essence of Rodrigo's musical masterpiece (e.g., Göran Söllescher in "Mad About Guitars"). But Parkening did! And the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was a perfect accompaniment.

This CD is definitely worth buying. Included is a CD booklet, which illustrates the history of Parkening's illustrious career, interesting tidbits about all 25 recorded pieces, and several photos of his early life to his "breathtaking performance" at Rodrigo's 90th birthday celebration at the Royal Festival Hall in London, 1992.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2006-05-08

I am not going to go into great detail. I am working on a degree in classical guitar and I can say this is something to strive for. His musical interpretation of the peices represented here are some of the best I've heard. His tone, color, and phrasing is incredible.

5 out of 5 stars A gentleman musical agreement! .......2006-03-16

In guitar ` s playing there have been many renowned performers, gifted of exuberant technique. But curiously the Apollonian playing is not by itself strictly enough. The guitar is the instrument which is closer to heart as any other one. It demands from you passion and sentiment. There have been three well known guitarists, one of them from England and the other one from Spain and the third one from Japan whose sensibility was totally absent in their performances.

But fortunately for us, there have been notable interpreters that have been maintained a desired balance and contrast between brain and heart, achieving great distinction and total acknowledgement around the world. I would name seven primordial names along the instrument `s story. First of all: the mythic soloist Andres Segovia, Regino Sainz de la Maza, John Williams, Alirio Diaz, Manuel Berrueco, Siegfried Behrend and Christopher Parkening, among the most representative ones of a great list.

Christopher Parkening `s career has made a brilliant colorist, an impeccable and sensitive interpreter of this well reduced repertoire. His profound artistic conviction and convincing phrasing has been a perpetual motive of constant invitations and presentations around the world.

5 out of 5 stars Extreme virtuosity.......2005-09-25

CP has become my chief inspiration to improve as a classical guitarist. His performances here are, without exception, phenomenal. He makes the most difficult pieces sound effortless. I prefer CP over John Williams because, while Williams is also unquestionably a master, he sounds a bit robotic to me at times. CP, on the other hand, never sacrifices musicality to precision. He sublimely maintains both.

5 out of 5 stars Melodic, Nostalgic, Beatle-esque, Catchy Spanish Pop/Rock!! This album is great!!.......2006-08-11

I understand this is the band's second or third album. Whatever it is, it's a real treat. I have not heard their previous album(s), only this one and the one that came out after (see my review for "Lo Que Te Conte Mientras Te Hacias La Dormida ("What I Told You While You Were Pretending To Sleep") I am a rock fan, always have been. I like some English pop, but I hardly listen to Spanish music anymore (exceptions: Alejandro Sanz and Mexican female rocker Alejandra Guzman... and Juanes) but this album was a real nice surprise. The songs are fun, catchy, the lyrics literate and often romantic and clever. The songs are extremely well-crafted. There is some Beatles influence here; I am referring to mid-60's Beatles, around the time of "Rubber Soul"/Revolver and maybe a touch of "Abbey Road"; especially in the vocal harmonies which are really lovely (and which also recall late 70's Fleetwood Mac) and in the structure of the songs. I first heard the song "Cuidate" (translates as "Take Care of Yourself") on the radio. It was a huge hit in Mexico, (as were "Paris", "Soledad" ("Loneliness") and "La Playa" ("The Beach") ) and I was instantly hooked. The band uses lots of synthesizers, acoustic and electric guitars and sometimes strings. The sound is also kind of "retro"; sort of 60's pop/rock. "Cuidate" reminds me a bit of Madonna's "Beautiful Stranger". Te lead singer's voice is lovely, smooth, soothing and very very sexy!! I don't know her name but she is a total babe!! Some of the songs are uptempo soft rockers, others are ballads but all are finely crafted and extremely enjoyable. La Oreja de Van Gogh is one of the best Spanish music bands today!! If you like Spanish pop music, you will enjoy this album very very much!

5 out of 5 stars Great Music Needs No Translation.......2006-08-05

The only deciding factor in whether this album is second only to LODVG's third album is that there are two more songs on that album than this one. None of the songs on this album are slackers. They pop and they rock. Great for dancing or rocking in the SUV on a road trip.

4 out of 5 stars Good Rocking CD.......2004-01-31

Their mix of music is good. The songs are original and upbeat, a hint of 80's American music, but overall good rocking. I saw the band on Musica Si several times on the TVE network when I lived in Europe. Orega de Van Gogh won the MTV Europe Award for best band in 2000. Second CD is better than the first which to me seems to be a trend for Spanish groups.

5 out of 5 stars A Big Surprise.......2003-09-28

I bought thie CD on the strength of their last album Dile al Sol
This is a great album, I enjoyed every cut on it. The first and last cuts are the ones I really get,Cuidate ad Desde el Puerto. These are fresh sounds to me and some cuts have a touch of European influence. By the way I am just about ignorant in Spanish, but listening to this CD, it doesn't matter.

5 out of 5 stars W-o-W.......2003-09-02

Sadly, I rarely listen to Spanish music, even though I'm from Madrid. As it often happens with most genres, it has become repetitive, monotonous, predictable and - to say it all in one single word: commercial. My musical tastes range from varied classical music (from Mozart to Schostakovich) to nowadays most contemporary sounds such as Massive Attack, Prodigy or Chemical Brothers. Without forgeting outstanding music authors impossible to find here at Spain such as Phish, oldies like Elton John, and indeed everything that is WELL DONE. Well, after this introductory info about my musical background, you'll probably better evaluate my review about LODVG.

El Viaje de Copperpot is a good example (a very good example indeed) of how to compose good pop music without falling into routine. I've read some reviews giving out little stars to this group, and often making reference to other Spanish or Latin groups. That is in my humble opinion a big mistake since LODVG, although under the pop-rock sound movement, is unique. Their lyrics are unique, and their music is unique. If listened to all of the songs' album carefully (it happens the same on their next album) it is possible to detect a big influence in each song from a different well known group. I personally found many hidden references out of Supertramp style, though when listened for the first time they're difficult to spot.

They needn't complicated - often badly chosen - synth sounds or innovative fx to create the desired athmosphere. Yes, they have keyboards, and indeed they are very very well implemented, but this group is mainly acoustic. They utilize their resources carefully achieving clean, well designed songs, easy to listen and remember, but with harmonies, themes and scores in general well, very well made, varied, non-repetitive but preserving their astounding style.

If you think this might be too much for you, then return to Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin. Otherwise, I highly recommend you give them a chance.

5 out of 5 stars beautiful, catchy and totally romantic.............2006-07-27

For those of you who have never heard of Sin Bandera, this album is your opportunity to get a taste of their artistry and stirring musical sensitivity.

Who are Sin Bandera? They are Leonel Garcia, from Mexico, and Noel Schajris, from Argentina. For starters, their voices are absolutely a pleasure to listen to. They have a real talent for conveying the pleasure and pain of romance in through their lyrics, melodies and expression. What's more, they aren't sappy or repetitive. Although this music is deceptively laid back, don't overlook the attention to instrumentation, harmony and diversity in musical influences. Some of my favorite songs on this album are the ones that have gotten little airplay in the United States. Many people know this album for the hit "Que Llloro" (translation: How I Cry). Though, this song is beautiful and heartbreaking,I love when these guys tap into more Latin influences ("Ven" and "Te Esperare" as two examples, where you hear flamenco elements), as well as their more jazzy sensiblities ("Magia" and "Cancion Para Los Dias Lluviosos").

You will fall in love with this duo and their wonderful music and definitely won't be disappointed. Buy this album today......

5 out of 5 stars Sin Bndera.......2005-09-07

Most of these songs are great. I like alot of the songs they made. Te song i like the most from this CD is "Que Lloro" and "De Viaje".

5 out of 5 stars A work of art.......2005-06-14

Entiendo un poco de Espanol, pero hablo ingles. Este album es incredible. Sus voces son los mejores y las canciones son tan bueno.

The hits are clearly the best on this album, but there are enough of them and enough versions of these hits to make it a very strong effort. The harmonizing of these two is unmatched in any language. The pair can not only create ballads, but can create some nice soulful, catchy faster songs, too.

Yo se ahora porque es "Album Del Año - Lo Nuestro Premios".

You will not be disappointed. The CD comes with a video, too, which I haven't yet seen.

There are only two albums from la musica latina de 2004 that I would buy before this one: Paulatina- Paulina Rubio and Si-Julieta Venegas

I must have, even for gringos like me.

5 out of 5 stars Reminiscient of Motown.......2005-05-20

The first time I listened to this CD I thought - "eh, it's just ok". The second time I said, "hm, this is really good", and it just kept getting better from there. Everytime I listen to it I feel like I discover a new favorite song and I enjoy the CD all the more.

Some of the tracks remind me of Boyz-2-Men in the ways they harmonize, but Sin Banderas definately has a sound all their own. I love their slower ballads - but suprisingly, my favorite tracks are the faster, more upbeat tracks like Magia (track 6). If you want to enjoy some good Spanish music that is remiscient of Motown - buy this CD.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is my favorite.......2005-04-07

A friend gave me a burned CD with various artists. I kept listening to one song over and over and decided to buy the CD. I am in love with this CD. I listen to it from the beginning to the end.

Informed by a vintage Hollywood production sheen and flashback-fueled, identity-questioning melodramatics worthy of Hitchcock, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's sexually-charged film was quickly hailed as a mature masterpiece. The film's classic Hollywood conceits are deep-rooted, and Iberian composer Alberto Iglesias reinforces the film's often retro mood via a brooding, classically oriented score with an ear towards history. It may briefly excerpt Rossini's "Kyrie" to haunting effect, but the touchstone here is the Bernard Herrmann of Hitchcock's prime, with an emphasis on their epochal Vertigo and especially the tense, dark strings of Psycho (which "Escena Familiar" and "Cine Olimpo" echo with haunting grace). But while Iglesias capably evokes the color and spirit of those iconic touchstones, he crucially does it without sacrificing his own identity. Evocations of Spanish culture come mostly via vintage performances of "Quiza, Quiza, Quiza," "Cuoro Matta" and others, but on the expansive "Puerta Finale" the composer skillfully interweaves his Herrmann influences with touches of mournful jazz, flamenco and "Kyrie"'s choral echoes, creating a compelling, oft chilling post-modern new whole. -- Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Even better than the film.......2004-11-21

Alberto Iglesias did it again, a wonderful soundtrack!

His last collaboration with Pedro Almodovar, "Talk to her", is one of the best scores I've heard in recent years. In that movie, the scenes of the country villa, accompanying with the touching song of "Cucurrucucu Paloma" by Caetano Veloso, easily became one of the most beautiful five minuets I ever had in a theatre.

Before I went to see "Bad education", I can't help wondering, Could I have another enjoyable moment like "Cucurrucucu Paloma"? Luckily, I did have one, sort of. The Spanish rendition of "Moon River" is such a beautiful and haunting piece. But unluckily, the way the music delivered in the film is so disturbing. It started as a beautiful and innocent singing by a boy standing by the river while ended up with an innuendo of the ugly fact of sexual violations. However, if you didn't see the movie, the "moon river" will be a pure pleasant enjoyment.

Compared to the slightly weak movie, the music itself is powerful and flawless. From the beginning to the end, it doesn't have a single dull moment. In a word, buy this awesome CD!

5 out of 5 stars The Starving Crocodiles... .......2004-11-17

The Starving Crocodiles

Almodovar's latest movie is undoubtedly his best, and a very inventive film-noir that absorbs and electrifies you from the very beginning. Alberto Iglesias' score serves "as a cradle where the movie rests" as the auteur himself said.

La Mala Educacion (Bad Education) is one of -if not- the best soundtrack composed this year, and its style is absolutely magnificent. Following the film-noir trend, Iglesias' score is a mixture of tunes a la Herrman ("Juan y el Sr. Berenguer", "Por mi grandisima culpa", "Escena Familiar"), poignant waltzes ("Foulard en seda", "La Carta", "Valsetto"), and vocalized cues that reflect the theme of the movie, and illustrate it fittingly ("Kyrie", "La piscina", "El cine como espejo"). "Cine Olympo", an exquisite theme for the movie-within-the-movie manifests itself disguisedly many times, in variations, as Iglesias' has done in previous scores where a parallel story is narrated - The Flower of my Secret, Live Flesh, Talk to Her, and All About my Mother- however the best track in the score is the "Overture". Other superb tracks are "Carta del mas alla", "Plato", and "Adagietto"... melodies that crave lust, but "Puerta Final" -the MAIN theme- is absolutely grand; probably the best potpourri of songs written in the last decade, that will grab you by the horns from the moment it opens to the last saxophone refrain, in an orgasm of eight minutes that you will want to experience over and over again.

The soundtrack also consists of key songs that in one way or another relate to the main characters and the story: "Maniqui Parisien", "Cuore Matto", "Moon River" (a very avant-garde arrangement), and "Jardinero".

Alberto Iglesias has composed a score so dark, rich, hunting, powerful, and mysterious... that proves to be irresistible.

Experience the Bad Education!!!

5 out of 5 stars Superb performances, superb sound quality.......2002-03-28

This is a wonderful CD! De Larrocha delivers some great performances of many well-known Spanish favourites, some of which you may recognise more by the sound than the title.

The solo piano pieces include Albeniz' Sevilla:sevillanas, which I am sure you will recognise, his Tango and a popular Malagueña.

Granados' Spanish Dance No 5 [sometimes known by other titles] is sensitively performed.

Albeniz' grandfather, Mateo's D major Sonata is the opening track. This music will be recognised by Australian music lovers as the theme music for Margaret Throsby's wonderful music and interview program.

The Montsalvatge Brief Concerto is a most exciting feature of the recording.

Highly recommended. Stunning sound quality.

5 out of 5 stars Best five bucks you'll ever spend on a classical guitar CD.......2007-04-06

I can't help but think that because it's five dollars some people have to get snobby about this collection. In my humble opinion the recordings of "Malaguena," "Capricho Arabe," "En Los Trigales," and "Introduction, Theme, & Variations on a Theme From Mozart" are the standard by which all others should be judged. And nobody else can touch his interpretation of Granados' "Villanesca." Except perhaps for Manuel Barrueco, but the way Narciso uses harmonics for the pedal tone is something that feels so natural, you can't listen to a fretted version ever again w/o wishing it was done in harmonics! The rest of the album is typical Narciso. Amazing dynamics and phrasing with flawless technical execution. I don't really believe that anyone else in the history of classical guitar has been able to carry a counterpoint with such defined independence. A true 20th century master. His tone may be a bit on the treble side for "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" but why even play that after Pepe put his mark on it? ;)
This collection is nearly identical to a cassette tape I used to own 20 some odd years ago except that "Rumores de la Caleta" and perhaps one or two others are not included with this compilation.

4 out of 5 stars Pleasing but not perfect.......2007-02-14

This CD is packed with the classics and must hear of classical music. There are some pieces I wouldnt have included and others that I would have, but overall it's in my #3 rotation.

1 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for .......2007-01-09

I was looking for the "old" guitar version on Malaguena that I have heard several times before. I didn't recognize this version.

5 out of 5 stars Remastered...and Rediscovered.......2006-12-24

There are two CD's available with this exact same program; this one has an "ambient surround imaging" applied to it, which is a pleasant effect on a surround sound system. Yepes' guitar sounds a bit recessed, but the tape hiss that was present on his budget-label LP recordings that I have is virtually gone. The dynamics have also been improved. At this price, it's a great buy, and a nice introduction to the Spanish guitar from a true master.

5 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful.......2001-08-20

Something to listen to when you are on a long flight and missing the new lover you left behind. Just simply beautiful music.......

Mexican trio Cafe Tacuba celebrates 15 years of making--and often revolutionizing--Spanish rock with Un Viaje. This lush, luxurious live set includes three discs of music and one electrifying DVD. (Separate versions are also available, but this generous edition is the most satisfying and is moderately priced.) The group has culled the best moments from a two-night stand in Oct. 2004 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, and the results are consistently electric. Every song, every rhythm, every guitar lick, every laugh is important, a not-to-be-missed moment. Cafe Tacuba's potent mix of music and message is a powerful thing, and the group thrives in its unflinchingly earnest, sweetly sincere approach to its art. Even during backstage interviews and recording studio hijinks, each member seems wholly pleased to be a part of the process. Throughout the proceedings, Cafe Tacuba's ardent fans thank them with hoots, hollers and constant singalongs to almost every song, making Un Viaje a joyous trip for everyone involved. --Joey Guerra

2 out of 5 stars I Know You Love Them because They Are Mexican, But Please Don't Get Carried Away - This Album Is Boring.......2006-03-01

I give this album 2 stars out of 5, and I AM BEING GENEROUS - primarily because while the Cafe Tacubas play some of their greatest hits onstage, with 100,000 screaming fans, nobody actually stops and notices that while the songs may be (mostly) good, this is really NOT A GOOD PERFORMANCE!! I saw this band live on a few ocassions, and it seems to me like they were at the top of their game right until the moment they released Reves/Yo Soy; a double album of experimental soiunds and forgettable tunes that may be best compared to Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" or the Works of Yoko Ono. Most of the rave reviews listed for this album come from some of their uncondictional fans. But even they would be hard pressed to admit that they only listened to the album maybe twice at most, and then chucked the entire 3 disc-set into the pile of "I'll listen to these someday" CDs. Do yourselves a favor: Buy their first 3 albums and call it a day. This band has had it. And i still don;t forgive them for Reves/Yo Soy. 4 Caminos was not a good album either.

5 out of 5 stars Great Cd... and a GREAT DEAL!.......2005-09-23

Leave it to cafe-ta to give its fans such a great deal on not only a wonderful cd, but also on an even greater dvd. This is a must have for all the cafe-ta fanatics... like myself. the dvd it great but i wish that it wasnt so edited. it seemed like they took a couple of concerts and edited them together... and sometimes not so discretely. towards the end of the dvd there are some scenes that cuts from them wearing one thing, to another and back again... all in the same song!... but other than that I LOVE IT... ive probably seen it about 50 times and ive had it for about 2 months! once again.. this is a must have for all CAFE-TA fanatics!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Music, great price!.......2005-09-07

I was a bit skeptical when I placed the order for cafe tacuba's un viaje. I had read previous reviews that mentioned the quality being a big let down and the sound as well. I listened to the cd before watching the DVD, and did not find a reason for the sound complaints. I actually found it to be pretty clear to the point of feeling part of the concerts in which the recordings took place.

I sat to watch the DVD and realized that the critics of the image quality must have only seen the beginning of the concert which was done in black and white with a grain effect to accent the songs that were being performed. I thought this was pretty unique, as well as other methods of filming that were employed for the concert.

The band gives a great performance as always and is translated into the 3 CD's and DVD that complies un viaje. I think this is a great buy for the price is being sold for.

4 out of 5 stars Good deal.......2005-09-02

This cd was a great one. If you've ever seen Cafe Tacvba perform live you know how it is....the band...the people...the music. This cd brings out that vibe. Plus, its a great deal. You get three cds and one dvd for one low price.

5 out of 5 stars Wow........2005-08-31

So, I saw these amazing guys at the Gibson Amphitheatre on July 3rd (although at the time I had only known one song of theirs and was really there for Kinky), as soon as the show started for them, I decided to stay, I mean- why would I be a punk and leave? There must have been a reason why the thousands of fans showed up, paid the price, and showed energy. That's exactly what you get in the audio/dvd. You get the energy, (not as much in the DVD since the cinematographic qualities are not what one would expect from this amazing band), but get over it. They have purposely made it easy for you to be a part of something that was really special to them, their 15th anniversary. If you complain, then you're just a whiny person who just doesn't get that they did this FOR YOU. SO YOU COULD ENJOY IT with yourself or others. The selection of songs is impeccable and I hope they come back to LA very very soon.

ORALE THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER.

There really isn't much to fault with this wonderful set of pieces. The playing is superb, and with over an average of 73 minutes of music on each CD, a great value. Unfortunately, the hard-to-find Azulejos was not recorded, neither was Cataluna nor Aragon from the Suite Espanola, so you might want to look for them elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs of Albéniz's music in a very nice price........2005-10-25

This are the very long-waited versions played by Esteban Sánchez for Ensayo label, recorded some decades ago in Catalunya (Spain), and which are, for many people between the best recordings of Albeniz's music available.

What we find here is a very racial spanish play of the Albéniz's scores, probably the most "spanish" performances recorded in the second half of the XXth Century. We can hear a very perfect technical playing with great passion and fire inside, something that is felt from the first chords of Iberia, and that become really "wild" in some passages of the work like that outstanding "El Corpus Christi en Sevilla".

Daniel Barenboim has declared his admiration for this Spanish pianist, for his technical perfection, for his feeling of the works and for the very close relation with the music he played, all this felt like in no other composer in this case (I think Falla is another composer felt very close by Sánchez, as we can listen in his recordings for Ensayo).

Apart from all the very well known pieces like Iberia or the Suite Española, we can listen in this 3CD album the monumental recording of La Vega, one of the Esteban Sánchez most incredible recording and a miracle of identification between composer, music and performer. I piece you should not lose.

The recording is quite good for being a small label in a country without tradition of classical-music recording. You've to remember this is a re-release from Ensayo catalogue, now released by Brilliant in a really wonder budget price; a set with no rival in this low price. The sound is even better than the original Ensayo release and some mistakes like you can listen in the original Ensayo release in the piece Mallorca is here taken out.

A great recording to put together with those from Larrocha (Decca, DDD) and Barenboim (Teldec), my favourite recordings.

4 out of 5 stars A WEIRD JOURNEY AND A NEW BEGINNING... .......2007-06-26

The newest Fangoria's album is, at the same time, a result of a continuous maturation process as well as a new beginning for this Spanish duo.

Embellished with glam guitars as never have been heard before in their previous discography, "El extraño viaje" (Something like "The Weird Journey") contains 12 tracks full of new sounds used in some experimental ways which produced unequal results. I used the word "unequal" because, unfortunately, the album doesn't surpass the previous ones (such as "Arquitectura Efimera") and it feels like a back step regarding to its achievements.

But this has been made on purpose: Alaska and Nacho Canut have declared that they wouldn't continue the line established by their former work: instead, they beat for a new gamble. This album is their final venture.

Even from the cover, you can say something has changed: for the first time in a 15-years career, Fangoria uses the white color. That's another milestone!

But... don't get me wrong: Undoubtedly, THE ALBUM IS WORTH. You will hear fantastic songs; i. e.: "Fantasmas" ("Ghosts"); "El cementerio de mis sueños" ("The graveyard of my dreams") and "Mis plegarias atendidas" ("My attended prayers"); but I think that this work should have been polished a little bit more.

C'mon Fangoria! It looks like you are extremely interested in selling copies instead of giving us memorable music.
