About the Artist
Adrian Antonescu and Anthony Petosa teamed up over twenty years ago after a chance meeting at a music conference. They hit it off from the beginning, sharing a commonality in their musical tastes and pursuits. Mr. Antonescu was no newcomer to the scene, having had already achieved acclaim in Europe as a singer/songwriter. While a solo artist, he also traveled extensively with many top bands, and he achieved critical acclaim for his compositions on many occasions. A mainstay of television and radio, Mr. Antonescu became one his countrys most beloved and respected artists. At the time of their encounter, Anthony Petosa had been involved in numerous recording projects, both as performer and arranger. He honed his arranging skills while working toward his degree in composition/arranging.
During their long-time collaboration, they wrote and produced several top ten hits in Europe, all of which achieved the number one position. On two different occasions they appeared in the Global Music Pulse section of the industry giant, Billboard Magazine. In 1994 they were awarded the "Producer of the Year" award for the album "Un Pod Peste Ocean" ("A Bridge Over The Ocean") by the legendary Romanian singer/composer/actress & UNICEF humanitarian Margareta Paslaru.
Currently they have focused their efforts in the area of childrens music. More specifically, they recently produced a series of lullabies on several compact disks. In keeping with their high musical standards, the pair committed themselves to reinventing the lullaby into an exceptionally unique, musical soundscape that can be enjoyed by both child and adult. The pair continues to work in this and other genres.

Ask anyone who's attended one and they'll tell you: there's nothing quite as colorful--and emotionally melodramatic--as a Greek wedding. Based on Winnipeg actress-comedian Nia Vardalos's one-woman show and brought to the screen by Rita Wilson and husband Tom Hanks, the film tells (with some parallels to Moonstruck) the story of a thirtysomething Greek spinster for whom falling in love with a "Xeno" (non-Greek) is surely the easiest part of a wedding that more than lives up to its billing. The film's soundtrack perfectly captures those swirling clouds of ethnic and romantic tension. Its first half largely sets up the rich cultural atmosphere with a lively sampling of traditional Greek folk music (featuring selections by Alexandros Xenofontos, John Tsifliklis, Eman, Nick Kutsukos, Daghan Baydur, and Richard Thomas), while the score proper from Alexander Janko (with help from Chris Wilson) slyly segues from similar fare ("Moose Caca," "Yasoo," "Yiayia") to more traditional orchestral film music. That sometimes electro-pastoral, compelling music has parallels with Rachel Portman's and offers the collection a sense of emotional completion. --Jerry McCulley

Great disappointment on amazon's shipping method.......2007-07-07
I had ordered this particular CD. However, After the second tried. i am yet to receive the CD. And i was really hoping the second CD could appear in my doorstep on the expected arrival date or 1 week later.
To be honest, This is the first time i didn't manage to receive my good from E-commerce Portal. I totally didnt expect this happen from reputable Amazon.
Nonetheless. I must admit your friendly customer service, they are always willing to assist me to reprocess or the refund the marchant.
Please kindly review your shipping method. or perhaps let me know what had happened to my shipping address or my goods. so i could still have confident to make purchase on your website again.
The Greek Music-.......2006-02-10
The cd is so phenomenal. The music is so traditional and it show so much of the greek culture. The bouzoki that they use which is a greek instrument was such a musical sound. In my school we are doing a GREEK PRESENTAION and we are going to use this music. We will dance to it and are going to be a success. So overall this is a superlative cd after all!!!!!!!!!!

The Greek Music is Great.......2003-05-05
I loved the strong rhythms and colorful harmonies of the traditional Greek numbers. The film score is lyrical but bland. This truly is a combination of "apples and oranges!"
Amazingly Relaxing CD!.......2003-03-08
This is a great instrumental CD! Not only great greek music that you can get up and dance to, but also the soft contemporary songs that you can just relax with. I enjoy it very much!

Album Description
"Conductor Jerry Junkin brings just the right touch of levity and concentration from the performers. You'll find yourself tapping your toes or conducting your own imaginary musicians ... or maybe not so imaginary--once again, Reference Recordings' `Prof. Johnson' has worked his magic on this HDCD. The instruments are true to tone ... the transient attacks are sharp and clear, and the hall ambience is excellent." - THE AUDIO ADVENTURE
The Dallas Wind Symphony is America's premier professional wind band, and Jerry Junkin is the worthy successor of Frederick Fennell, the "godfather of wind bands". David Maslanka is the most important living composer for wind band. A Child's Garden of Dreams is his greatest hit, and In Memoriam is a world-premiere recording. Symphony No. 4 and A Child's Garden of Dreams receive their first professional recordings.
Customer Reviews:
WOW!!!!!!!!.......2007-07-30
This recording is the most powerful example of wind band writing at its finest! Maslanka knows how to write well for this medium and the Symphony is so energized! As a student of three of the musicians who performed on this disc (Horn, Trombone, and Clarinet), I witnessed the excitement that went into this recording! The performance is simply amazing!

Just when you think you know somebody, some uncharacteristic behavior shows itself and you instantly realize that you have more to learn. Such an enlightening occurrence is bound to happen for listeners to this disc accustomed to hearing the "memorable tunes, regular phrasing, and clear harmony" of Machaut's most commonly performed works. Here, the four-member Orlando Consort--alto, two tenors, and baritone--happily and with masterful ease introduce us to the "other" Machaut, one of irregular phrases, lively syncopated rhythms, and long flowing melodies that interact contrapuntally with two or three other vocal lines. The melodic structure often consists of cleverly intertwined strings of suspensions followed by quick resolutions, giving a jumpy impetus to many lengthy passages and entire songs. Among these 14 secular songs are many beautiful poetic texts and some notable melodies, but, interestingly, Machaut didn't attempt to fit music with textual meaning. For us, it remains just to listen--and perhaps to read the words separately--and we are rewarded with some of the 14th century's most sensuous, intriguing, and exotic music. --David Vernier
Customer Reviews:
Interesting music, great singing.......1999-12-20
The music on this CD represents the style of composition prevalent in the mid-14th century, the so called ars nova. This style was notable for "hocketing" (i.e. oscillation between short notes and short rests in the upper voices), and even syncopation, but it also included a technique quite different from the ones just mentioned - the so called isorhythm (i.e. regularly repeating rhythmic and harmonic structures). Machaut was a great master of both of these facets of ars nova, but he was by no means the only one, as was demonstrated by a recent Clerks' recording of music from the Ivrea Codex (and if you ask me, the greatest master of isorhythm was John Dunstable). As the in-house reviewer mentions, the music on this disc is more idiosyncratic, less regular, more syncopated than the typical 14-th century musical output. Breaking the rules while perfecting the style has always been a sign of genius, in any age. The Orlando Consort give this music the recording it deserves (I must commend this group for carving out a niche for themselves despite the fact that the idea of having an all-male quartet sing early music so smacks of the Hilliard that it would seem to be a difficult act to follow). The voices blend exquisitely, combining the beauty of tone with an expert technique - even Robert Jones, whose voice I normally find rather harsh, sounds relatively mellow and seductive in this recording. Charles Daniels is great, as always: his solo piece, Liement me deport, is utterly delightful. gkolomietz@yahoo.com

Customer Reviews:
My FAVORITE of Many Relaxation CDs!.......2006-01-26
There is absolutely no vocals on this beautiful harp music CD, although if you don't like the sound of rain or a bit of nature behind some of the music, you may not agree with my admiration of this particular album. I LOVE IT! I have bought numerous "Soothing" music CDs that either throw in unappealing vocals that interrupt the flowing instrumentals or else inject a random fast-paced, spiced up, thundering piece that makes you jump right out of your skin! Not so here, that's why I LOVE IT!
Just a nice "Soothing" CD & I wish I could find more like it.
"One clear harp in diverse tones".......2003-04-12
The Floridian harpist, Victoria Lynn Schultz has three solo albums to her credit: "Harp Dreams;" "Harp Favorites;" and the 2000 album "Soothing Harp" which was originally marketed with aromatherapy products for "Treatment of the Mind, Body & Spirit."
The latter album features four of her own compositions: 'Tender Wishes;' 'Mystic Waters;' 'Reminiscent;' and 'Whisper Dreams.' There are also traditional favorites such as 'Greensleeves' and 'Scarborough Fair,' and a couple of dance tunes from the Renaissance. Close your eyes and let your thoughts resonate to the clear, beautifully-played strings of Schultz's harp and you'll be soothed without the need for essential oils, scented candles, or any of that other New Age clutter.
This harpist also had a chance to tour with the traditional Irish band, The Chieftains when their group's longtime harpist Derek Bell died suddenly last October. Schultz joined them for their "Down the Old Plank Road: The Nashville Sessions" tour. Since she had been a Chieftains fan and a Celtic music buff for years, it was the opportunity of a lifetime.
She has also written the book, "You Can Play the Harp."
Speaking of New Age clutter, my only problem with this album is the inclusion of occasional water sounds that seem less like rain than like someone left a faucet running in the recording studio. There are also occasional bird songs, but these are minor distractions in what is essentially an album of harp music for meditation and relaxation.

LOVELY MELODIOUS MEDITATIVE MUSIC.......2005-07-09
This is really nice sitar music. I also purchased "Journey" by Khan and that is just as nice. Sometimes sitar music can get a bit too frenetic for a peaceful mood. Not for those in India, for they are used to it--but rather older people from the west who may not be able to appreciate ragas for their own sake. But I love all of Khans albums.
Moving fusion.......2003-01-29
This is an evocative blend of classical Indian music and western harmonies. Ali Akbar Khan creates magic with the liquid sound of the sarod, and his fellow musicians do a great job rounding out his ideas with western-style violin and wind accompaniments. The general effect is relaxed, not excited. The pieces are rhythmic and emotional, and range from playful north Indian folksong to classical "khayaal" to blues. As east-west fusions go, this is definitely among the most successful.
Seeking a peaceful space?.......2002-11-17
This CD will transform your surroundings into a calm resting place. Enhances almost any activity I can think of. Helps you to return to the present moment, leaving worries behind. If you know of any comparable cd's, please leave a note here. Thanks.

Customer Reviews:
If stranded on an island and had one disc..........2006-01-23
I'd be tempted to make this the one, and I own over 2,000. I agree with what has been said above, but have a few thoughts of my own. I live near a major city with a known orchestra. Why are classical audienced declining? Maybe they're overplaying hackneyed works, and not playing some neglected masterpieces. In this double album there are some well known works, but some exquisite finds, like Picker's Old and Lost Rivers, Honegger's Pastorale, Arvo Part's Summa (!!!). Most highly recommended, with a good bottle of red wine.
Truly inspired collection.......2004-12-07
I came upon this compilation while researching a somewhat obscure piece called "Summer Pastorale", which is contained in the collection. One look at the play list and I was sold - here were most of my favorite tone poems, adagios, and assorted short works, all on one CD (OK, two CD's...)
Another gem here that I had never heard before is Pick's "Old and Lost Rivers". Ravel's final movement from Mother Goose is one of his best orchestrations and at the top of my 'A' list.
About the only pieces I missed here were Debussy's Engulfed Cathedral and Respighi's fourth church window, St. Gregory the Great. Perhaps they would be a bit too dramatic for this collection, though.
The only shortcoming of this collection is the lack of liner notes, but this is a minor issue. The music is superb.
Encore! Encore!.......2004-06-17
Like a few other reviewers here, I purchased this disc for Tobias Picker's "Old and Lost Rivers." But from the Gregorian chants that open this two-CD set to the closing strains of Ravel's "Mother Goose: The Fairy Garden," I was absolutely captivated by the beauty and cohesiveness of this compilation. Producer Robert Laporta has created a disc that passes muster with neophytes and long time classical music lovers alike. I humbly suggest -- make that BEG -- that Virgin Classics turn "Classical Dreams" into a series. I would love to hear a second volume featuring such favorites as the BBC Symphony Orchestra's interpretation of Delius' "On Hearing the 1st Cuckoo In Spring," the Royal Philharmonic's version of Vaughan Williams' "Fantastia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" and the London Symphony's recording of Vaughan Williams' "Symphony No. 3 Pastoral" (Andre Previn conducting both Vaughan Williams' selections). By far, this is the finest classical collection I have yet heard. Encore!
Encore! Encore!.......2004-06-17
Like a few other reviewers here, I purchased this disc for Tobias Picker's miraculous (and criminally underrated) "Old and Lost Rivers." But from the Gregorian chants that open this two-CD set to the closing strains of Ravel's "Mother Goose: The Fairy Garden," I was absolutely captivated by the beauty and cohesiveness of this compilation. Producer Robert Laporta has created a disc both neophytes and long time classical music lovers can approve of. I humbly suggest that Virgin Classics turn Classical Dreams into a series. By far, this is the finest classical compilation I have yet heard. Encore!
Surprised and ... inspired.......2002-05-10
What a pleasant surprise this double CD turned out to be. I bought it used just for Picker's gorgeous and poetic "Old and Lost Rivers" but fell in love with the whole thing. I'm not usully one for "Best Of ---" or themed classical collections, but this one's in a class by itself. The selections are unusual and achingly lovely in themselves and as a whole. This is my new favorite disk. It's a relaxation or concentration tool... hell, it's a companion - it goes wherever my laptop and headphones go. You get over two hours of gorgeous and lyrical - never mushy, sentimental or tired - classical music, the perfect backdrop for everything from dinner dates to writing code. This CD has added sustained moments of beauty and poise to a busy life - which is more than I could have asked for!

Bold, ambitious attempt that hits some marks, misses others.......2002-12-06
This is an engaging and unusual integration of Nakai's flute-playing talent with an orchestral accompaniment, creating a romantic, sweeping, and contemplative score that sounds like a motion picture soundtrack in many instances. Nakai's command of the flute never wavers, but sometimes competes, rather than synchronizes with the full-bodied strings that interject themselves almost randomly throughout every piece. When the two mediums cooperate the result is moving and lyrical. One can almost visualize scenes of beauty, mourning, and determination that are the embodiment of Native American existence. But in some places, the music meanders between the two forms creating a neutral, unfocused, and occasionally dispassionate mood.
I applaud Nakai's innovation and experimentation, but I think his strongest work with Western classical music forms is still best demonstrated in his collaborations with pianist Peter Kater, such as "Migrations". Oddly enough, Kater's work with Nakai is not mentioned in the liner notes.
Music to Contemplate By.......2002-12-01
I had never heard any of Nakai's work before buying this CD, so I came to it with no idea of what to expect. The first word that comes to my mind when I play it is "soothing." That describes the first three tracks without need of another word. With the fourth, soft sweeping strings join Nakai's plaintive flute for a feel best described as "floating" or "drifting." The fifth is sweetly mournful. The sixth brings muted brass into play. In the seventh there are moments both majestic and plaintive. And so it goes. This is quiet, thoughtful music, the kind you might play while reading some favorite old "gentle" book or practising your deep breathing. Although I generally prefer more powerful sounds from my stereo, this one is an enjoyable change of pace, and full of Native mysticism.

This recording is a sequel to pianist Carol Rosenberger's "Perchance to Dream," a compilation of lullabies and other restful, tranquil music. It's nice to have a follow-up on such a warm and professionally presented album, and this does not disappoint. On the first disc of this two-CD set there are a number of simple tunes including themes by Mozart, Schubert, and Beethoven; on the second disc we hear their variations. Once again Rosenberger's playing seems suited to the primary goal at hand: putting children to sleep. Her execution is without edges or unpleasant texture of any kind. While it would possibly come across as slightly bland in a concert hall, this approach is perfectly suited here. -- Gwendolyn Freed

The collections itself well deserve the title - lots of sweet, dreaming and classic melodies. However, the bad recording sound has taken away all the goodies created in the album.
