I used various tracks from this CD for a Cub Scout ceremony and it really set the mood..I searched on Amazon for 3 hours trying to find the right drum music and this is certainly it !

Discount the self-important blather from "professional" drummers and First Nation/Capitolized Ethnic Group people you see here and buy this CD if you enjoy better quality new age music in a native vein. This CD and its highly successful predecessor was NEVER meant to be a hard-core exploration of genuine Native American drumming, flute or chanting, though it masterfully incorporates such music alongside other simple nativist percussion. Yes, persons looking outside the world music (or new age) genres for actual Native chanting and drumming may be disappointed, but it never hurts to open your ears to new things. But if that's too hard and you crave the "real thing," may I suggest Tokeya Inajin, Dik Darnell or Carlos Nakai.

I HEARD THIS CD IN A SPIRITUAL SERVICE. I ENJOYED IT! I SEARCH IN THE WEB AND I BOUGHT IT! I LISTEN IT IN THE CAR OR WHEN I WANT TO FEEL MY SELF "EARTH CENTERED". REALLY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR "DRUMS" LIKE IN LATIN MUSIC, MODERN MUSIC, IT ISNT.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SOFT/ACTIVE RELAXING MUSIC, SO THAT YOU CAN FEEL ONE WITH THE EARTH, AND YOU GET FLASH BACK OF OTHER PRIMITIVES TIMES, THIS IS FOR YOU. THAT'S MY EXPERIENCE.

Although this may sound pleasant to some people I would imagine it's an insult to others. Just another example of the exploitation of the true Americans. It's like there was a Lawrance Welk of native American music only worse. An equivelant might be buying a Metallica cd and hearing Madonna music coming from the speakers. You expected something with some real spirit but you got watered down syrupy bubblegum music instead. It's not the real thing. Besides that I'm a professional drummer, and I'm definitly not impressed with the drumming. But having said that, if you just want some pop music to listen to and delude yourself that your listening to real native American music then this is for you.

It would probably be better to rename it and put a different picture on the cover that would be less insulting to the people it's making a mockery of and more suitable to the disco minded crowd it's apparently trying to foster.

Sacred Spirit Drums.......2004-04-28

My husband is First Nation and has played on traditional Pow Wow drums. The music on this CD seems very contrived. I think it is better to get real First Nation drum music rather than to turn it into this unrecognizable, synthesized and distorted electronic sound. It is being "passed off" as Native. To me it it is not Native. It sounded, well, sorry, but, it sounded tacky. I don't know if Mr. Gordon is First Nation. Some of it even seems to be somewhat African, which would be appropriate if it where meant to be African in nature. But, all in all, it's far to "Hollywood" for me. And we all know how "Hollywood" has mis-informed the world about our First Nation's history. But, I guess the bottom line for the producers of this type of CD is - this stuff sells.
The drum is the heartbeat of Mother Earth. Her heart is not heard with this rendition.

This recording has been digitally recorded and mastered to produce the richest acoustic depth and full tonal range necessary to alter consciousness for the purpose of making shamanic journeys.

The type of insistent, rapid drumming found on this recording can provide support for shifting consciousness. When shamans journey to the spirit realm, they enter a trance-like state of consciousness. In this trance state, the brain generates theta waves which are characterized by a 4 cycle-per-minute pattern. Research into altered states have determined that the deepest states of shamanic consciousness may be accessed by listening to rhythmic drumming of 4-beats-per-second because these rhythms replicate the natural theta state.

This is an interesting review to write - this CD does exactly what it says on the title, which is to induce a deep trance by the use of a single rhythm drum pattern, for shamanic journeys.

However, if you are looking for interesting ethnic drum beats or examples of native American drums, you won't find them here, because the entire CD, apart from two tracks at the beginning and the end which are each less than 2 minute in length, is one single drum pattern of four beats per second which repeats for nearly an hour.

If you want a shamanic trance, this product will deliver; but don't buy this if you want to be entertained!

Excellent drumming music for Shamanic Journeying.......2006-06-24

This is the best CD I have found so far for doing shamanic journeying to recorded drumming. There are just 3 tracks - inviting the spirits, the journey drumming, and a call back at the end. I loaded it onto my iPod and it works very well for me.

I found the sound quality to be excellent, crisp and clear, and the energy in the sound to be amazing. It really "does the job" and provides the horse to ride for the journey. A friend of mine had an incredible first journey just from using this recording. I also use it as a background when I am doing my own drumming, to assist and provide me with a "backup group."

Note: this is not a "musical" CD, and not just for listening to!

It's the real deal........2004-09-07

I've listened to this CD and it has lived up to its purpose, and then some. Deep trance is the name of this game. Heavily so. If you are open, it is quite a powerfull tool.

First I must say that if you are looking for entertaining music or drumming, look elsewhere; that's not the purpose of this CD. Additionally, listening to a shamanic drumming CD does not make an instant shaman out of anyone; if you are expecting this CD to transform your abilities, you are mistaken. Drumming is intended to promote trance induction, but it won't do you much good if you don't put yourself in the right mindset to trance or know what to do once you begin to trance.

That being said, this is a good shamanic drumming CD for people who already do trance work or who are exploring it for the first time under the preparation and/or guidance of someone who knows what they are doing. The drumming is a good speed and lasts long enough for a good trance session, and rattles accompany the drumming appropriately. Callback is also effective.

The Price Club.......2005-04-28

"I am here," said Leontyne Price when interviewed as she opened the new Metropolitan Opera with Samuel Barber's underrated ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA, "and you will know that I am the best and will hear me. The color of my skin or the kink of my hair or the spread of my mouth has nothing to do with what you are listening to." Back in the 1960s Price was one of the greatest divas in all of opera, and it wasn't just her voice but her magnificent stage presence, combined with her social activism. All of the above come into play in this collection of secular songs and ditties, some of them traditional plantation chanties and others, art songs and a scattering of pop music. And some of them, like Gershwin's "Summertime," cross the ever-permeable boundaries between Broadway and classical. These recordings were made at different times in Price's career, and her voice, while always angelic, has different shadings and reaches a different range of timbre in each separate recording date, but there is no question that, as time goes by, she is able to impart a richness of life experience noticeably absent from some of her earlier work.

"Ave Maria" sounds heavenly no matter which way you slice it, and as for "I Wonder As I Wander," it brings tears to your eyes. If you have a heart that's beating you will be moved by this rendition. "Ein feste Burg" is pretty strong, but Price seems more comfortable with the traditional spirituals, though perhaps it is the slightly off-kilter sounds of the Ambrosian Singers (what a name) who back her up on many of these tracks, that detract slightly from the experience. Compare "Lead Kindly Light" for a clear sense of what constitutes authority vs. what is a wee bit overproduced. If you had this compilation, and perhaps one of Leontyne Price's Christmas albums, you could attain nirvana any time you wanted to, just flip a switch and close your eyes, let her lift you up on wings of song.

A living legend.......2005-03-10

Leontyne Price (still alive) and already passing into immortality amongst vocal artists, both classical and popular. Leontyne Price stands at the pinnacle of her classical art, but those who only know her work in La Forza del destino or the Verdi Requiem are in for a heart rending treat with this album where Leontyne Price goes home to her roots in Mississippi and gives an unabashed account of the classic spirituals she sang as a young woman. Like John Mc Cormacks rendering of Irish songs there is a personal longing and devotion expressed here that reveals a side of the artist not known in the bulk of their "classical" repetoire. A sense of going home like Citizen Kane's rosebud, or as Dorothy Gale observes at the end of the Wizard of Oz "everything I could ever have wanted was right in my own backyard "

Agreed this is a good cd for a beautiful voice, but this is not, repeat not, for someone who wants to hear that old-timey religious fervor that you think of when you've been to a Black Baptist hand-clapping, standing, swaying, and singing service.

Immaculate Vocals of Leontyne Price.......2003-12-31

IMMACULATE, SUPERB vocal range and style! There's no other words that can complement Miss Leontyne Price's vocal arrangements. Miss Price's voice is strong, and shrills very nicely to the instruments played on many songs listed on this double CD which is a joy to treasure; every song listed are songs I was raised to hearing and singing. Miss Price is the reason why many of these songs remain in popularity and presently used. Miss Leontyne Price has been incredible in many of her past performances. This is my fourth CD of Miss Price and I am glad to own this particular CD forever and ever. Many thanks to the executors who found this remarkable album and upgraded it to a CD format! **Angi**

Great Gospel Stuff.......2001-04-12

This is a great CD. The only problem I have with it is that on some of the selections there is a boy's choir screaming in the background, and this takes away (a bit) from her performance. That said, her best selections are those that are either unaccompanied or those where her voice is not buried. Songs that strike me are - His Name So Sweet, He's Got The Whole World, Were You There, I Wonder as I Wander, Lift Every Voice and Sing, and my all time favourite Summertime. Enough said.

Rebbe Soul opens the disc with a part-contemporary, part-traditional Jewish plea for "peace between the sons of Issac and the sons of Ishmael," followed by an organic Hindu groove evoked on sitar and percussion by vocalist Jai Uttal, and then an ethereal take on a Sikh perspective, sung in resonant, angelic fashion by Lorellei. The Savae Vocal Ensemble uses the Inca language Quechua to offer up its intriguing Gregorian-like chant, gently underscored by tribal shakers. Islam, Krishna, Buddhism, Christianity, and Native American thoughts are also expressed, concluding with "Green Tara Mantra," involving a disembodied-sounding chant coming from the Dalai Lama. Beautiful Collection of Prayers & Chants From Around the World.......2007-06-07

"Prayer" is a deeply moving, beautiful collection of various prayers & chants from around the world - and I have to say that it's truly soul stirring!

I enjoy listening to music when I meditate & this has quickly become one of my favorite "meditation music" CD's! Although many of the songs are sung in a different language, you can feel their meaning within you - the music "speaks to you"...

I also really liked the liner notes that accompany this CD - they include short discussions on prayer - what it is & why it's so important, as well as the words for each of the songs, written in both the original language it was created in, as well as english.

Overall, I absolutely love this CD & I highly recommend it to anyone interested in prayer/chant music &/or music to help you get to that "special place" during meditation.

Great CD.......2005-02-19

This CD was the catalysts into my love for chant/kirtan music. Many great artists on this CD including my current fav's Jai Uttal and Krishna Das. Also a great chant by His Holiness the Dalai Lama chanting the Green Tara Mantra. The tone is reverent and peaceful. Get this Cd, you will love it.

An awesome collection of chants.......2004-01-13

This is the best collection of prayers and chants we have come across. It should be in everybody's CD stash. It has a wonderful, world beat sound to each of the excellent tracks and then it ends up with the Dalai Lama doing the Green Tara Mantra with Dean Evenson accompanying on flute and keyboards. It doesn't get better than that! I pray everyone in the world gets to enjoy this wonderful CD. And spread the word, tell your friends. They will be happy too to hear it.

This release is beautiful to the ear as well as the soul. Listening to the ancient prayers and chants from so many spiritual paths and the fine instrumentation that accompanies them transports me into a deep state of peaceful reverance. I listen to it before I start my day, and at it's close. The sound is hypnotic and lovely. The spirit of this release connects me to all those who have asked the deep questions of life throughout time and have sung to their gods in supplication and in praise. A fine piece of work!

Rockfluence is pure perfection! Some of my favorite rock classics, done with such style and beauty. Perfect when you are in a mellow mood, you can still listen to some rock favorites, but be soothed and relaxed beyond words.

I just purchased this CD today, and song after song I just smile and think "this is so beautiful", and it's mostly original hard rock songs, it's like an oxymoron but it is wonderful. My 7 year old daughter doesn't know the songs originally, and she kept saying how the songs were bringing tears to her eyes. I got this CD after hearing him at the Galleria Mall in Roseville, Ca. because it was so awe inspiring as he played. I wanted to share it with my family, especially my 5 year old who can play music on the piano from ear, which aparently is how Scott started playing himself, and I wanted his music to be an influence to her. Pianist/composer Scott D. Davis has been referred to as "the rocker of new age/contemporary classical music" for a couple of years now. When fellow pianist/composer David Nevue introduced Davis as such at a Whisperings Solo Piano Radio concert something resonated within him. He had been urged for years to record an album of recognizable cover music, but he resisted, preferring to record his own original material. Somehow, Nevue's introduction freed Davis to return to the music that helped shape his energetic performing style and to create solo piano arrangements of some of his favorites. It's a wide-ranging collection spanning thirty-two years of rock and metal music from 1971's "Stairway to Heaven" (Led Zeppelin) to 2003's "My Immortal" (Evanescence). Davis stays true to the spirit of the originals, and yet makes them his own. Actually, there is one piece on the album that is newer than 2003 - Davis' own "Scherzo." Most of the twelve tracks are intense and rather dark - no bubble-gum teeny-bopper stuff here - so it's obviously geared for a more mature audience. Even though I can remember just some of the words to the oldies that I grew up with and wasn't familiar with the more recent hits, I thoroughly enjoy this album. There should be at least one song here that just about anyone can say, "Oooh! I love that song!"

"Rockfluence" opens with "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses, a song full of rock-style tenderness and love. "Hotel California" is given a full almost-eight minute treatment that is very true to the original. "My Immortal" by Evanescence is a quieter slow-dance ballad that Davis fills with passion. "Nothing Else Matters" from Metallica is dark and very intense - a beautiful arrangement! I couldn't quite imagine "Stairway to Heaven" as a piano solo, but it works well! I really like the mystery and drive of "Wanted Dead or Alive" from Bon Jovi. "Open Arms" from Journey is one of my favorite songs from the early `80's, and Davis keeps it warm and loving - also a great arrangement! Another favorite is Europe's "The Final Countdown," a powerful, emotionally charged song with a gorgeous melody. Billy Idol's "White Wedding" really rocks, leading up to the closing track, Davis' own "Scherzo," a musical term that means "joke." I first heard this impressive piece in a live setting, and it really makes people sit up and take notice! Davis' fingers fly all over the piano with the various themes of the piece, which range from slow and almost sedate to a wild and crazy romp that makes me think of chase scenes in old movies. "Scherzo" clearly demonstrates Scott Davis' playing chops as well as his musical sense of humor. Fun!

"Rockfluence" is truly a musical good time, showing what these rock classics sound like stripped down to one instrument and no vocals. Good stuff!

This CD features a compilation of Techno-music supported by a little didjeridoo here and there. As such it is really not bad. However, both the title and the album description state or imply that the music has something to do with meditation and/or spiritual practices. This is not true: it's Techno-music in its purest tradition. The synthesizer-generated music is very flat with little or no harmonics.

I was looking for a CD full of high-energy music. Wow! This one is awesome.

I'm constantly looking for great high-energy music for use when I'm working. This CD is almost too perfect in that regard as it is the type of music I can put on, go to work, and POOF -- 4 hours vanish.

My feet are dancing, my fingers are drumming, and my mind is in the zone. Great beat, nice didgeridoo, and awesome percussion throughout.

This sound reminds me of the high energy music that would emerge if you could somehow mix the music from the Afro Celts, Nomad (say ASIN: B000001ZBG), and Deep Forest. Delicious :)

I'm no trance expert so can't comment on its "trance purity", etc.

I'm no dancer so I can't comment on the type of dance genre this music best fits. Apparently I'm thinking of becoming a dancer, though, as I seem to have this urge to go dancing through the house like a wild man whenever this CD is playing :)

Summary: I agree with the summary on the back of the CD, "Pumping rhythms of the wild ... droning, eternal voices of an ancient-future ... exotic nature sounds and rapid-fire percussion create an inter-dimensional journey into mindless spirit". I wish I would have said that :) ***Highly Recommended***

Buddy Reb Bow was simply the best Native American Country singer/songwriter. He was the FIRST artist inducted into the Native American Music hall of fame... one ahead of Jimi Hendrix. His reach was far and his influence deep. It is not the intent of the artist or producer of this project to create negative feelings between the Native Americans or any other race of man. This is simply a statement of truth as seen through the eyes of some Native Americans from around the time of Wounded Knee in 1890 up to reservation life of modern day. The songs reflect the feelings of some of the elders who have taken the journey to the other world and many of those who still live today. Many of the stories were shared with Buddy by his grandparents while they raised him as a young child to manhood. This is my favorite album of his. It is both sad and joyful, stirs the emotions and it never fails to soothe at the same time. Absolutely the best.

i first ran into this as almost as soon as it came out in the '80's. while it is nice from a regular stereo, it is wonderful and very healing listened to through headphones. this is much, much more than a native 'country' album. buddy red bow was a sun dancer who has passed over. a multidimentional experience all around.
