4 out of 5 stars An Above Average CD..........2007-04-15

This CD is something you don't find often. It's something that you can listen through in whole, again and again. I prefer the live/acoustic songs. I am an alternative/hard/metal fan, and this album covers them all. I ecspecially love the live/acoustic cover of Alice In Chain's Nutshell. All in all, this is a great CD. Go out and buy it now.

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penney!.......2007-03-09

I have never really been a big fan of Staind, however I have loved certain songs of theirs here and there, but I am an overall Alternative rock fan. So I came across this album and it had all the greats that I really liked plus a few I like from others in acoustic versions so I got it. Wow, this is one compilation that will be tough for Staind to ever overcome! I would say the absolute best album they have ever compiled! This rarely comes out of my CD player!

Why bother with making your own compilation CD, this Staind CD has it all on one disc and it was on my doorstep 2 days after I ordered. Worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favrite cds of the year.......2007-01-11

I thought this cd was a very good one. If you're a fan of Staind then this is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars There's just not enough disc space for EVERY hit!.......2007-01-06

I've been a major fan of Staind since I happened upon the music video for `Mudshovel' and went "HOLY CRAP THESE GUYS ROCK HARD". Since then it's been nothing but love for these guys. It's about time they release a greatest hits album, but the problem that any band of this magnitude is going to face is...what hits do we include. The logical choice would be the singles but Staind has left a few of their great ones (Just Go) in favor of some not so great ones (Price to Pay).

All in all a fan of Stains will be happy, especially with the live tracks since all true fans know Staind is best when stripped down and raw (best live performance I ever saw!). Although, I will add that I was a little put down that they didn't include the live cover of Pearl Jam's `Black' which is one of my favorite cuts Aaron ever sang, and songs like the aforementioned `Just Go' and `Devil' would have been welcomed over `Zoe Jane'. I would have also liked to have seen more from `Tormented', maybe even opting for the original cut of `Mudshovel' but `Come Again' is nice to open with.

I'm glad they chose to run with the live cut of `Outside' since that's the track we all fell in love with, and adding `Epiphany' and `Everything Changes' was also a nice touch, not singles but repeat worthy. All in all we have a lot to be thankful for...it's not Staind's fault they have too many great songs to fit on one compilation disc. Next time guys, make this a two disc set...maybe have a whole disc dedicated to acoustic cuts...now that would be nice!

Into Broadway's creative vacuum of revivals, movie adaptations, and Hollywood star vehicles comes Rent, the story of squatters, junkies, performance artists, struggling musicians, drag queens, aspiring filmmakers, and HIV-positives (and you thought Miss Saigon's helicopter landing was cool). Undoubtedly among the defining pop cultural events of 1996, Rent has already won four Tony awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. More importantly, it threatens to bring substance back to the Great White Way.

Transposing Puccini's 100-year-old opera La Bohème into modern day Bohemia (19th-century Paris's Left Bank becomes late-20th-century New York's East Village where the scourge of tuberculosis becomes the plague of AIDS) Rent celebrates life among the young, sick, and unconventional. While Broadway shows are hardly the place for authentic portrayals of the latest marginalized hipsters, composer Jonathan Larson (who died at age 36, days before his musical opened) managed to sculpt vivid characters and scenes that bring Avenue A as close as it will ever come to 42nd Street. And by telling a socially relevant story of living without the guarantee of a future (renting, that is), Larson does his own little bit to define an X'ed generation. At worst, Rent is the Hair of the '90s.

For the majority of us who won't be seeing Rent anytime soon, the Original Cast Recording is more than just an after-show souvenir. Well-packaged with a complete libretto, the two-CD set is a worthwhile album separate of live performance. Full of songs that are funny and catchy, inspiring and touching, smart and hip and not overly sentimental, Rent mixes showtune pop with elements of rock, R&B, dance, gospel, and tango to make one of the best albums of the year--certainly the best rock opera in decades. La vie bohème, indeed. --Roni Sarig

1 out of 5 stars Rent - a Celebration of Financial, Hygenic and Moral Degeneracy Masquerading as Moving Drama.......2007-05-28

When I first received my copy of Rent's soundtrack, one of my friends had the good manners to warn me that I would "hate the message." I am not surprised at this assessment, but what is more unfortunate is that the production as a whole does not make up for that objectionable message enough to make this a worthwhile purchase for anyone uninterested in a mindless affirmation of the self-destructive "bohemian" lifestyle. The lyrics alternate between vapid pseudo-philosophical platitudes ("Measure in love, seasons of love") and ugly overtones of Marxist class envy ("Yuppie scum"). The voices of the singers are disputable in quality - the most impressive being Idina Menzel's boisterous, full-bodied rock vocals and Jesse L. Martin's poignant soul-inspired voice and the worst being Daphne Rubin Vega's rasping excuse for a voice, whose every note invokes simultaneous feelings of pity and revulsion. As for the music, while certain tunes hold a certain decadent charm, the overall style soon becomes repetitive and tiresome, with guitars assailing the ears almost as frequently as paeans to drug use, socialism and "loooooove". How this mediocre blasphemy against Puccini could possibly have won a Tony is beyond my understanding, and how anyone could bring themselves to spend more than a dime upon such a second-rate soundtrack should be equally beyond your belief. Avoid this record.

5 out of 5 stars I'm Hooked!.......2007-05-01

I am a Renthead/Junkie for many years now. The cast recording has been with me for years due to a recommendation from a college friend. I have been playing this CD and know the words by heart.

I was the first in line when the movie came out and had a heartfelt emotional experience. And now it has finally happened...

I just saw the show for the first time on April 28th, 2007 and may I say GO SEE IT! The songs have not lost any relevance in the last 11 years. The cast of the tour is great and I hope one day to see the original cast perform.

Thank you Jonathan Larson! God speed and I love you :-)

5 out of 5 stars It gets even better.......2007-04-27

Although the movie soundtrack is fantastic, I found this soundtrack is even better. Having originated from the play, it may provide another perspective that enhances your "Rent" experience overall.

Jonathon Larson rocks!

5 out of 5 stars LOVE LOVE LOVE... ALL TIME FAVORITE.......2007-01-17

I saw the musical twice, once in L.A. and other in Chicago and it was GREAT!!! I'm a huge fan and pretty much know all the words. I never get sick of listening to this cd and others find it catchy too. I'm hoping my husband will let me watch it one more time in NY. :)

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2007-01-12

This two disk CD hardly ever leaves my CD player. I actually went out and bought a bigger CD player just so that I could leave it in.

I have always thought that the comparations between "Rent" and "Hair" are totally unfair. In "Rent" we have a full cast with real and meaningful people without the false truths and lies that were around in the late 1960. Jonathan Larson is the Balzac of Generation X.

Pop pundits might contend that a Poison greatest-hits collection should be an EP. Yet despite jeers from critics, these glam-metal pretty boys produced big hits, filled arenas, and fueled MTV in the late '80s. And the opening track on this 18-cut compilation sets the record straight: "Nothing but a Good Time," indeed. From down 'n' dirty rockers such as "Talk Dirty to Me," "Look What the Cat Dragged In," and "I Want Action," to mega-ballads "Something to Believe In" and "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," this is a treat for those who like big hair and bigger hooks. Included are two previously unreleased songs, "Sexual Thing" and "Lay Your Body Down," the latter a lush, likable five-minute power ballad. One complaint: the song-by-song notes by singer Bret Michaels somewhat lack the pizzazz one anticipates from a band with such a colorful comportment. --Katherine Turman

5 out of 5 stars POISON OWNS!!!.......2007-07-16

Quite possibly, the greatest 80's hair metal band, Poison's Greatest Hits is packed with explosive tracks picked from their first four albums and some late releases. As my very first POISON CD, I came to love the band and their songs that are driven by ultimate killer choruses. Every song is perfectly written and impressively performed, from cool glam rock to highly anticipated power ballads, and included in the booklet were passionate liner notes about the history of their songs written by Bret Michaels himself! Hearing this CD will leave you wanting for more! Definitely, a MUST-HAVE for Rock n Roll addicts!

4 out of 5 stars Fun.......2007-04-19

Poison is a great band, even though most critics will disagree. There songs are fun and rocking. This is a great collection of there best songs and its great start for new Poison fans. Id even recommend it to anyone who likes good rock. They are better the Motley Crue.

5 out of 5 stars Talkin' Dirty.......2007-02-01

This was the first CD i picked up from them and got hooked from the start. There are many other songs that aren't on here that are a 'must have', but this CD should be in every Poison Fans Collection!!

1 out of 5 stars Pop rock, girly rock, GARBAGE rock.......2006-12-18

I never liked poison. The production of the actual albums are very good, but then they should be......so are Britney Spears!..and why? Well, after the new wave of British Heavy metal led to talented bands like Van Halen to get on the scene and make metal enorously popular in the US, record producers wanted to cash in on the act. So, just as Disney do today, groups were manufactured into iconic figures......in the case of poison, ....lets sell sex and string a few guitars in...oh yea, and hairspray.......and call it music! Its because of bands like poison that metal in the 80s was doomed. I hate grunge, but thank god it came before metal died forever. Poison existed because girls wanted to have sex with them....and, unlike motley crue, had no point to make musically
AVOID......unless you like manufactured tripe!!!

This decade-spanning compilation charts the singer-dancer-actress's transformation from rebellious teenager to sexy diva, along the way check-listing major hits like "Nasty," "Miss You Much," "What Have You Done for Me Lately?" and "Rhythm Nation." Two new tracks bookend the set, but even the older material--most of it helmed by writer-producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis--holds up remarkably well. --Courtney Kemp

5 out of 5 stars Pure Janet Perfection.......2007-07-30

This stellar collection of Janet's earliest hits is jam packed from start to finish. Having "That's The Way Love Goes" included was an added bonus!!

4 out of 5 stars Great compliation of Janet Jackson's hits.......2007-05-15

Great CD, as contains all of Janet's best known hits.

5 out of 5 stars THE TALENTED JACKSON.......2007-02-10

Janet once again shows that she is the talented one in her family by blasting out some amazing dance tunes along with a few slower ballads.

5 out of 5 stars design of a wonderful career.......2007-02-02

This was the first janet album I ever bought and from then on I became a fan for life. This album is full of her hits from control and RN in addition to a hit from the janet. album and 2 new tracks. I love to play this album when I don't feel like switching to different janet CD's for hearing different songs. I don't think anyone's r&b/pop collection is complete without this compilation of some of the greatest pop music of our time.

4 out of 5 stars Janet is a legend!.......2007-01-27

This CD is abslutely incredible. The one and only reason that I took one star off is because of the weird concept. It inclues all her hits from A&M records, as well as two new songs and "That's the Way Love Goes". I understand the reasoning, butit is still a bit akward.

Regardless, that doesn't take away from the fantastic music. It starts off with "Runaway" which is a classic Janet 'holiday' song in the vein of 'Escapade". The camera'click sound on each beat is very catchy and unique.

The next few tracks are from Janet's 1986 breakthrough "Control": "What Have you Done for me Lately", "Nasty" and "When I Think Of You". All classic singles that have the most seductive dance beats and attitude that makes Janet who she is.

It continues with four tracks from "Rhythm Nation 1814": "Escapade", "Miss You Much", "Love Will Never Do...", and "Alright" They all have futuristic, yet 80's pop beat to them which is the tone for the RN1814 album. Of course, they'll all extremely catchy. "Alight" appears in it's radio remix form, which is a nice little treat.

The album continues with two more "Control" tracks: The amazing "Control", and "The Pleasure Principle". Jimmy, Terry and Janet did great job on these. They are R&B classics that sound even better today. Next are "Black Cat" and "Rhythm Nation. The former is also in radio remix form which is a nice luxury. "Rhythm Nation" is basically the same as it's album verison, with the excusion of Janet's 'pledge speech' at the beginning.

The last four songs are slow jams, each from a different album. "That's the Way Lvoe Goes" from 'janet.' is J's biggest hit, and with good reason. The beat is so sexy, as are Janet's vocals. The groove is absolutely blissful. Next is "Come Back to Me" (RN1814), a fantastic soothing R&B ballad that sounds ahead of it's time. "Let's Wait A while" is Janet's first hit ballad (from "Control"), and it's a very sweet song about waiting to have sex. Last but not least is anoher new track "Twenty Foreplay" which starts off as a sweet slow ballad, and then changes it's tone to a straight-up funky, love-making jam.

All-in-all,this CD demonstrates what an amazing talent Janet Jackson is, and what pleasure it is to have her as part of he music industry.

This commemorative reissue of music from 2001: A Space Odyssey combines the Also sprach Zarathustra theme, various Johann and Richard Strauss segments, and a ballet suite by Aram Khachaturian--all of which prove how much Stanley Kubrick's film attempts to avoid the soundtrack clichés of most science-fiction movies. Instead of the expected sci-fi effects, there is a more ironic application of music that would be otherwise incongruous to the celestial settings. Here, "The Blue Danube" complements scenes involving weightlessness and descending spacecraft, while Gyorgy Ligeti's creepy "monolith" music connotes Armageddon more than interplanetary exploration. The tracks play as they had appeared on the original soundtrack release back in the '60s, but there is also previously unreleased supplemental material and a dialogue montage entitled "HAL 9000." --Joseph Lanza

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great music, great reissue.......2007-04-16

This is a great collection of music and I love the great mastering job that was done with this. The inclusion of the tracks from the original MGM soundtrack release are a great bonus. The liner notes include interpretations of the film and the music that are insightful.

I noticed that the music in the movie is mixed in surround sound, it would be great if they could release this on DVD-Audio or SACD surround. I'd buy it again!

5 out of 5 stars fantastic.......2007-03-11

I have the old lp release of this music, what an incredible array of classical music, topped off by my personal favorite piece of music in the world, the blue danube waltz. Let yourself be carried away in deep space by this incredible score.

5 out of 5 stars whoa........2006-09-04

"Atmospheres" was enough to make me buy this album. just try to imagine what eternity might sound like. okay, now you know exactly what Atmospheres is. wow. who else could having captured the feelings that are in this score? this is above talented. this is above genius. this is above avand garde. this is too good to be labeled as anything at all.

5 out of 5 stars Great Music for Halloween, very creepy.......2006-03-17

I bought this CD to use for a haunted house program, the music will creep you out.

5 out of 5 stars Bleakest of Futures..........2005-10-08

The atonal, unsettling atmosphere of much of the music of Ligeti is fitting to the bleak vision of a human future reigned by nothing but cold technology and of humans drained of emotions except for the deepest animalist fear originating from our inner reptilian brainparts which have not changed for over millions of years. The incongruity of Johann Strauss' lovely 'An der schönen blauen Donau' with the cold technicality of spacefaring as depicted here could not be more complete, but what a perfect find on Stanley Kubrick's part! It makes the uneasiness and confusion even greater. And then, to top it of, the complete and flabbergasting irony of using Richard Strauss' Fanfare for the 'rise of Man' in his 'Also Sprach Zarathustra': what a great destiny for 'Man' indeed, this bleakest of bleak visions of the future!
As a soundtrack for '2001: A Space Odyssey' this music together on one album is just great.
And besides, this soundtrack has indeed, like so many others I guess, made me aware of the genius of Ligeti, which otherwise might have gone unnoticed for me.

Jason Robert Brown, one of musical theater's brightest young composers, made his first New York splash in 1995 with Songs for a New World at the WPA Theatre. It's a revue of 16 of his cabaret and theater songs, directed by Daisy Prince (Hal's daughter) and realized by a crack cast of Andrea Burns, Jessica Molaskey, Brooks Ashmanskas, and Ty Taylor (who sang the role on this recording only because cast member Billy Porter had a contractual conflict), with Brown himself leading a small combo from the piano. Soaring melodies and irresistible rhythms mark a wide range of songs that encompass jazz ("Just One Step"), gospel ("The River Won't Flow"), funk ("Steam Train"), and Kurt Weill ("Surabaya Santa," sort of Mrs. Claus's lament as it would be sung by Lotte Lenya). Most memorable are two songs of lost love: the Ashmanskas-Burns duet "I'd Give It All for You," which perfectly captures romantic yearning, and Molaskey's wry yet poignant "Stars and the Moon," which has become something of a jazzy standard, recorded by such luminaries as Audra McDonald and Betty Buckley. Brown went on to win the 1999 Best Score Tony for his powerful Parade, then reunited with Prince on The Last 5 Years. --David Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Songs for A New World - A truely magnificant musical that soars!.......2007-05-13

The show, Songs For A World has been the "under ground" hit for musical theater for years. More recently has the muscial come up to be more and more well known (when in 2003 lyrisit/composer Jason Robert Brown's newer show, The Last 5 Years grew widely accomplished).

Songs For A New World first showed off-Broadway in 1995. Jason Robert Brown delivered what is now one of muscial theaters hidden treasurs.

Any true musical theater fan who is tired of the new lack luster shows or revival after revival clustering their shelfs will find this cd a new favorite.

Ironically, all these songs have been selected from differnt shows written by Jason Robert Brown, yet have a noticeable connection. Even Jason Robert Brown wrote, "No one tried to weave these songs together. Yet when the show was completed we couldn't help but notice how many of these characters and songs could be portrayed as the same individual."

For myself, each and every song can be a personel favorite. But of coarse certain numbers clearly rise above the rest.

The New World- Truely one of my favorite songs of all times, from the lyrics, the vocals and the message.

Just One Step - A hilarious and briliant song. You will be humming this hugely catching the first moment you hear it.

Stars and the Moon - A haunting and truely significant song. Any theater fan will appriciate this song for its soluful lyrics and heart warming message.

King of the World - Quite simply, one of the most brilliant vocal performances you will ever hear.

Each actor gives each and every song meaning and heart. And when all four are put together (The New World, The River Won't Flow, Hear My Song) produce awesome results.

This is a MUST HAVE for muscial theater fans who miss shows you can actually listen through entirely! I highly recommend this to be added to your collection!

5 out of 5 stars JRB shines!.......2007-01-04

Jason Robert Brown has really hit the mark with this show. Heartwarming, thought provoking and thoroughly enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars for a while now...........2006-10-25

I've had this CD for a while now...even before it began to grow in popularity. I've always adored it, and the opening song is particularly incredible. This CD, in my opinion, is definitely one to add to your collection if you're an avid musical theatre fan. I own tons of recordings, and this one is a true gem.
standout pieces include:

King of the World
I'd Give it All for You
The River Won't Flow

But they are all awesome!!
And JRB pieces are actually incredibly difficult to play...so much of the piano part is exceedingly intricate. Listen to King of the World.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Work of Art.......2006-08-01

I absolutely fell in love with this cd when I first heard it. It is very uplifting and full of inspirational songs that will lift your spirits and just make you feel good! Having read some of the other reviews, I'm excited to check out JRB's other works.

Enjoy!

Like the movie itself, the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack is filled with emotional twists; from the hardness of Garbage's "#1 Crush" and the Butthole Surfers' "Whatever" to Stina Nordenstam's endearing, whispery "Little Star" the journey is all over the map. Within the CD-enhanced grooves, however, moments of absolute brilliance flow; Des'ree's "Kissing You (Love Theme from Romeo + Juliet)" is perhaps her strongest work to date, while Radiohead's "Talk Show Host" is a track that the group treasures and performs live often. Those two tracks alone make this soundtrack worth the purchase price. --Denise Sheppard

I wish they would have included everything from the movie, but this is pretty good.

5 out of 5 stars quintessential movie soundtrack for the 90's.......2007-05-25

If I were asked to choose just ONE movie soundtrack that embraced mainstream teen pop culture of the 1990's, this would be it. If anything, I think it is even better now than it was then. The tracks fit together beautifully.

5 out of 5 stars My 4th copy........2007-05-12

Since this CD was released, I have loved and lost this CD for appx. 3 times. Every time I would lend it out I would never get it back. It's probably one of the best soundtracks ever. Now that I have it, again, it's not leaving my hands.

This is a perfect soundtrack for those who have edgy and eclectic tastes. Garbage, Radiohead, Desr'ee...I love it. One of the songs took me off guard a little (Little Star), but I don't feel that it took anything major away from the listening experience. Enjoy!

Is the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve and Other Stories a holiday rock opera? Or perhaps just a holiday prog-rock disc? Or maybe it's New Age? Whatever the case may be, this isn't your typical Christmas album. Filled with electric guitar solos, plenty of synthesized keyboards, a children's choir, and lively drumming, Christmas Eve can only be compared to one other record, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other holiday disc, The Christmas Attic. On this CD, angelic vocal solos (on numbers such as "The Prince of Peace") are interspersed with driving instrumentals. Sentimental, occasionally bombastic, but as high-concept as holiday albums can be. --Jason Verlinde

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent First Album.......2007-06-29

In TSO's first album, they are at their best. Christmas Eve and Other Stories has everything. From fast-paced instrumentals to slow choirs, they excel at everything they try. Some high points are the instrumentals "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)" and "A Mad Russian's Christmas", as well as "Ornament" and the moving "Old City Bar". "A Star To Follow" has an amazing segment where four choirs sing different verses all at the same time. Overall, TSO's first album is one of their best, containing a delighful mix of slow, powerful songs, and fast-paced songs that are simply a joy to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-05-09

Very good gutsy Christmas music! I lost my first copy of the CD, so I bought another one.

5 out of 5 stars Christmas Eve and Other Stories.......2007-03-09

How do you describe the music of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra? Classical, rock, heavy metal, symphonic rock... You have to hear it. This is a wonderful example - but if you're expecting sweet Christmas carols move on. This is not for you. If you want music with impact grouped around a Christmas theme - give this a try.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music Indeed.......2007-03-08

This is one CD our family wants to listen to all the way through more than once! Awe-inspiring instrumentation blended nicely with a little more vocals than expected. Great addition to our collection for the holidays.

5 out of 5 stars Christmas Eve and Other Stories.......2007-01-30

I had expected more orchestra and less vocals. Didn't have as much Trans-Siberian big sound as I had expected.

Product Description

Infinite represents Eminem the way he was in his younger years: a young man in search of true love as the song « Searchin» fully reveals it. A young man facing a lot of financial problems and trying to feed his family. When you have been yourself through similar difficulties, you will be able to relate to songs like « Its ok ». 313 gives us the taste of a « sweet emcee from the 313 ». « Maxine » also belongs to the well written songs of the album. Marshalls sincerity all over Infinite is so touching. But it seems that it wasnt enough. Despite the huge efforts, he had put into his album, people reproached him to sound like Nas. The public wanted something else, something biting that Eminem gave them with the Slim Shady EP and the Slim Shady LP. Although people wont unanimously agree on Infinite, Id advice any true Eminem fan to check the album if he hasnt done it yet- at least for the great lyrics written by Marshall Mathers.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Realy good lyrics........2007-06-01

But the production blends in with typical early to mid 90s music as far as beats go. As far as lyrics, i believe Em is on Nas' Illmatic level back then. The only reason i gave this a low rating is becaause D-12 pops up and ruins every track the talk on. D-12 should not be allowed to rap except for Bizarre.

5 out of 5 stars The Essence of Hip-Hop - - D-E-S-E-R-V-E-S E-V-E-R-Y S-T-A-R.......2007-03-28

I'd like to start off my review by saying that i consider Marshall Mathers part of an elite though very select few of pure, conscious l-y-r-c-i-s-t-s. These include Eyedea, Gift of Gab (1/2 of Blackalicious), Jeru tha Damaja, AZ, Big L, Big Pun, Common Sense (in his early days), KRS-One, CL Smooth, Black Thought, all iS mineS, one.be.lo. and also the whole Hieroglyphics empire.

That said, the overall vibe of this album has an undeniable old school quality to it, even though it was released in '96. The beats are infectious and sound fresh even to this day, and eminem actually had something to say. He was hungry, relied on clever wordplay and worthwhile stories that not only reflected his life at the time, but also portrayed every day happenings that he had probably grown accustomed to seeing.

"Maxine" is about how a prostitute will lie & leave you with disease if you're dumb enough to believe she's clean. Some nice production here.

"Never 2 Far" portrays eminems ambitions to make money in the rap industry. The difference between him and other rappers is that he comes correct with clever wordplay and flow, and each verse eases nicely into the chorus, to the point where you don't even realize his technique of merging the two.

"Searchin" continues this idea except this time he's pouring out emotions as well as his lust for a lost love. Again undeniably sick wordplay and flow, with a guest appearance from a friend.

"Infinite", perhaps the strongest track on the album is also one of the sickest instances of pure lyrical destruction that i've ever heard. Not a lyric is wasted throughout, and every line effortlessly connects to the next. ("My rhymin' skills got you climbin' hills, i travel through your mind into your spine like siren drills."). This is hip-hop that actually requires thinking to understand everything he's saying, and when you do it's a real eye opener.

"Open Mic" flosses a sick beat and funny intro, and eminem rips the beat to sh*t. It's a toss up between this and "Infinite" for best track on the album. ("You couldn't flip shit playin' in toilets with a spatula.")

"It's Ok" must be heard to believe. His style is so natural you'd think he was somehow cheating. Again the wordplay is unmatched by today's "standards" of what a hip-hop song should entail.

A inevitable gripe with this album that most heads will notice is Eminems questionable approach to riding the beat. At times he certainly seems off if you listen closely, yet he also seems right on because of the way he flows in and out of the chorus, with an uncanny ear for the smallest nuances of the beat.

Bottom line: it's shocking that few people have heard this album. This was undoubtedly a different side of Eminem, when few people knew about him and his rage hadn't come out yet. If you're a hip-hop head you will probably appreciate this album for what it is, Beats, Rhymes and Storytelling ability.

4 out of 5 stars The rhymes absolutely blow my mind on this album........2007-02-26

A Lot of Eminem fans don't like this album because it's none of that Slim Shady stuff. If you sit down and study this album properly and study what it's about you will like this album. On this CD Eminem talks about his struggles and how he feels he can make it, and tracks like it's okay and Never 2 Far explain that. However Eminem displays some dope skillz on this album with perfect lyrical flow over laidback beats and some hot punchlines to get you hyped up and those skillz are displayed on tracks like Infinite, 313, Tonite and open mic. My favourite tracks on this album are Never 2 Far, which talks about how confident you have to be in order to make it, no matter if you're broke or not it is still possible to be very successful in the future, Searchin is another good tune on the album about how he finally found someone to be in a good relationship with, Backstabber a funny but very lyrical song about a backstabber that eveyone should stay away from, Jealeasy woes is another one talking about how he feels his girlfriend left him because shes jealous of him especially that he spends all his money buying her fancy gifts and she keeps giving them to him acting like she don't like the gifts. So there you go if your an Eminem fan or a fan of real Hip Hop then download this album since it isn't in stores.

4 out of 5 stars His best album. I seriously mean that........2007-02-24

When we turn up a track to hear Eminem "Slim Shady", we hear someone who seem bitter and sometimes outraged. Some of Eminem's songs from the Slim Shady album and on are good but in my opinion he seems to be whining a lot. Wait, wait don't get me wrong he can flow well and he has some good lyrics there is no doubt about that but "Infinite" offers something different. I listen to his tracks on this album and I feel he is being completely real. All this was before his fame and fortune... The introductory track, Infinite, will blow your socks off! His flows on this track are better than anything else I have heard by him and shows off his raw talent. On the song "It's OK" he talks about his struggles with having child, financial problems, issues with family etc. Normally he would complain about all of it and talk about putting his "baby mama in a hatchback and latched it" (Quote from the "Last Hit" from High & Mighty). Instead, he says everything is going to be OK and all right. He knows he will make it through... It is too bad the public passed up this album. In '96 they wanted something different from Eminem and that is when he developed the nemesis "Slim Shady". His character on this album is completely different and in my opinion "real". Characters on 8 Mile actually are real... He has Dj Butterfingers cutting the beats on this album along with the rest of 313. I talk to some Eminem fans and they say they know all of his songs and albums. I ask them about this one and they have no clue what I am talking about. I am telling you, if you are a true fan pick up this album and get it fast because you can't find this in stores... This is going to be a one-of-a-kind album by Eminem and he will never make anything like this again.

4 out of 5 stars Found My Copy in a used record shop.......2007-02-21

I found my copy in a used record shop. I have all of Eminem's albums except this one and I knew I'd never find it again, so I went ahead and bought it. the best songs are Tonite and Jealousy Woes II.

"Chicago's plot was cynical and satirical in 1975, but today feels like a documentary." So says Walter Bobbie, the director responsible for this revival of the Kander, Ebb, and Fosse "musical vaudeville," which began as a minimalist concert staging for New York City Center's Encore! series before moving on to Broadway, critical acclaim, and Tony Awards. Actually, it'd be hard to go wrong with any production, no matter how it's staged, because the Roaring '20s jazz-based music here is simply great. Some people actually prefer the original's Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera as Roxie and Velma to Ann Reinking and Bebe Neuwirth, but no matter. Joel Grey is perfect as Amos Hart, James Naughton matches Jerry Orbach's original Billy Flynn, and again, the music here is wonderful. A near-flawless classic. --Bill Holdship

Makes the enjoyment of the show continue after you leave the theater. Definitely see the show before you by the soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars CHICAGO ROCKS BROADWAY.......2007-05-17

Chicago - The Musical (1996 Broadway Revival Cast)

One of the top 10 best Broadway cast albums ever! A revival which surpasses the original. A must own for anyone who likes Broadway shows. Bebe Neuworth, Ann Reinking & James Naughton are stellar. Plenty of razzle dazzle and fun.

4 out of 5 stars A near-perfect recording.......2006-02-25

Chicago is a classic, and that classic status remains in the revival recording. Bebe Neurwith is truly a delight as Velma Kelly, and shines in the star number of "All That Jazz", but it's the men who steal the show. James Naughten and Joel Grey are perfect as Billy Flynn and Amos Hart. Every single one their numbers is absolutely perfect are true classics. There are, however, two downsides. First is that the film soundtrack exceeds vocally with Catherine Zeta-Jones as a belting Velma. Second, and ultimately, Anne Reinking's rendition of "Roxie" is downright awful. I love her versions of "Funney Honey" and "Me and My Baby", but "Roxie" is disgusting. In all, however, a wonderful, fun, and classic recording.

4 out of 5 stars Don't be so harsh on Ann.......2006-01-06

I understand that many of you who have bought this CD will be Broadway lovers (and I am one myself)and you will be used to the lead roles having amazing powerful voices. But just as important as good singing is good acting. I think that Ann interpreted Roxie as a wannabe who had the enthusiasm but lacked the talent, which makes her raspy tones and sing-speak completely plausible. It also supports the theme that you can use other things than talent to get yourself to the top This may not be the way you like Roxie played, but you shouldn't shun Ann's interpretation. It's a good thing if there is more than one way of having a character played, I think so anyway.
Personally I love the Miramax film, but I enjoy comparing these 2 and seeing the differences.

2 out of 5 stars Good, But Not Great. .......2005-08-27

The revival edition of CHICAGO could be a whole lot better (like the original or the movie soundtrack.) But it is good none the less.
Bebe Nuewirth is fun to listen to on the recording, but Ann Reinking is HORRIBLE! She can't sing and she can't act as well as Ms. Nuewirth.
I recomend this recording to all Chicago and Kander and Ebb fans.
