Customer Reviews:
Some good songs, but a bit repetitive.......2007-05-15
Got it after seeing everything is illuminated. It's got some good stuff, but alot of punky numbers I find boring.
gogol bordello is awesome.......2007-05-07
good for any occasion its just an astounding diaspora of cultural sound. I would recommend it to anyone.
Amazingly New Sound--and So Fun Too!!.......2007-04-05
I am in LOVE with they Gypsy Punk sound! So many elements to it...and you can't help but want to get up and dance. Wonderful music!
Like dropping a hand grenade into a box of kittens.......2007-02-07
In my first experience of Gogol Bordello, a friend layed a track on me, had me listen to it, loud, headphones on, without any explanation. Which, I must say in retrospect was just wrong. This album requires a full Surgeon General's Warning, advising those with a proclivity towards sensory induced migraines or temporal lobe siezures to lay down the iPod and step away. I mean, I don't want to say this highly energetic music is bad, but I sure don't have the correct anti-siezure meds to get through it. So, enjoy. It's all yours.
loud and beautiful.......2007-01-05
I had never actually heard of Gogol Bordello until I read a review in a magazine about them. I decided to check them out because the idea of Gypsy Punk intrigued me. I'm usually up for any type of music so I didn't hesitate to try them out. I was glad I did. The music is all so infectious that it's hard not to like them. Song after song I never grew tired of the unique blend of all the ingredients that make this album something you wont come upon very often in life.

Customer Reviews:
something to have.......2007-03-14
These CD's are filled with all the awesome relaxing songs for the evening when you need it. It is just one of those must have items in your CD collection.
Excellent Music.......2007-02-19
This album was a "try and see" purchase but I love it. It makes great dinner music, great music to drift off to sleep with, or just nice background filler during social events needing a softer tone. It is not all solo piano music if that s what you are after; the other instruments blend very well however and don't challenge the piano playing. It is a piano album after all!
buy now.......2006-09-01
Want to know why I think the piano is the best musical instrument ever invented? Because no matter how the piano is played, it will always sound good. Whether the music is fast, slow, quiet or loud, it ALWAYS delivers with an appealing sound. This is something you need to buy.
Lovely.......2006-02-22
This is a beautiful calming cd. The playing is excellent and the pieces are well chosen.
Aesthetically Pleasing.......2005-09-14
I simply love piano music. If you're looking to relax, enjoy a peaceful time, then you must check out this album. If you truly enjoy piano music, this album is by far one of the best you can purchase.
As it says....it is the "Most Relaxing Piano Album in the World...Ever..." Well, I haven't listened to all piano albums in the world, but I don't need to, this one is just perfect for me, and I think you will agree!
I would say the pianists' are extremely accomplished. At times, I would admit-it's a bit 'spine tingling'!

Some family music calls for cranking the volume and rocking out. Renee & Jeremy's calls for sitting cross-legged on the floor à la preschool circle time. Gentle is this pair's guiding principle--they will be your moon, as they sing on "Night Mantra," and as they prompt you, or your Cinderella-nightgown-clad 3-year-old, to close your eyes on "Falling Star Lullaby," they will kindly point out that love will always be there, and so will they ("let the rhythm remind you," goes the harmony). Reinforcement of this kind rarely comes in a package so palatable: Renee Stahl's voice is a lovely instrument that takes on shades of Cowboy Junkie Margo Timmons' at times, and Jeremy Toback's is rock-solid and frills-free. Together, they craft music that doesn't try too hard but measures up beautifully. --Tammy La Gorce
Product Description
It all started with a simple idea, really: to rnake a CD of kids rnusic that adults could enjoy, not just tolerate a collection of original songs for parents who appreciate the likes of Jack Johnson, Nick Drake, and Aimee Mann. The result is a treasure chest of luminous harmonies and sophisticated lullabies that are unlike any children s rnusic you ve ever heard. It s A Big World is a thoughtful, nuanced, and long-overdue departure from the Wheels-On-The-Bus rut that children s rnusic generally veers into. These are songs by two gifted rnusicians (and parents) who understand the difference between sweet and saccharine - and who know their audience does, too. Most importantly, though, they are songs with heart. Everything from the writing to the recording was an earnest and intimate venture. The title track came to Jeremy Toback (guitar, vocals) on a walk with his 1-year-old son, Ezra - after wondering what life would be like through his eyes. And Renee Stahl (vocals) crafted her haunting and minimalist lullaby, Powder Blue, out of her own meditations on motherhood before becoming one herself. Committed to keeping the production as raw and personal as possible, Renee and Jeremy recorded the entire album in what would in a matter of weeks become the nursery for Renee s first daughter, Amelia. The duo vowed not to be afraid to let the odd minor key shade a little dark into the album s sunny canvas, and to have fun with their lyrics without straying from the underlying positive message. Through and through, Renee and Jeremy s genuine musical chemistry and uplifting energy is almost palpable. The album s most miraculous accomplishment is one that you will have to discover yourself: in the morning on your way to the office, or late at night, long after they ve gone to bed, you will find yourself slipping the CD into your stereo, alone this time, and you will sing along - and your eyes may get a bit teary, but they will never, ever be rolling. Jeremy Toback has released two critically acclaimed CDs on RCA, 1997 s Perfect Flux Thing and 1999 s Another True Fiction which yielded the radio hit, You Make Me Feel, before parting with the label in 2001. He is an original member of the band Brad along with Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, and later went on to found his own record label for yoga music. Tracks from Renee Stahl s first CD, Melancholy Pop, have been featured on television series such as Roswell, Wonder- falls, and Party of Ave. Her latest release, Hopeful Romantic, will be distributed nationally by Barnes & Noble Booksellers. www.reneeandjeremymusic.com

Customer Reviews:
My favorite CD!.......2007-07-29
Van Cliburn is a master pianist, and this CD is pure listening enjoyment. I generally am not into clasical music, but this is fun. His working fingers convince me that they are not working. They are dancing, and they are having great fun. WONDERFUL!!
Music to my ears!.......2007-04-04
I bought this CD as a "treat" for my 16 year old son, who has just finished a homeschool music course for one of his electives. The last part of the course required listening to music from all the great composers, Baroque through contemporary periods, and identifying the more famous pieces by name and composer. He not only enjoyed the course, he now actually listens to this CD for his own enjoyment (when he's not playing 80's rock). What more could a mother ask for? (I'll tell you. I ask him to borrow it, it's lovely.)
Legend!.......2006-10-11
This is the greatest compilation of recordings ever made by the legendary pianist Van Cliburn. Although I am a cellist, I wear this cd out on a regular basis both at the office and home. I actually have an extra copy to play at the office. All of these recordings are superb in sound quality, performance and incredibly inspiring. The Schumann, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Liszt pieces are stellar and my personal favorites. I only wish there were dvd's with Cliburn's performances for those of us too young to have seen him perform live. CD is a must-have for any classical music lover's collection.
Probably the Best Piano CD ever!.......2006-04-13
If you like Piano music, this is the CD for you. Van Cliburn is at home with great songs that anyone will recognize. It is a masterfully performed set of songs for anyone.
An exquisite recording...read on!...........2005-03-13
Contains a masterful rendition of Beethoven's "Fur Elise", which happens to be one of my favorite classical pieces -- I have a smooth-jazz-pop-dance version of this tune on my own album, "Classy Cool: Classical Favorites, Made Cool" (Google keyword "Motionizer" to find it)

This soundtrack offers a pretty standard mix of new songs, old chestnuts, and excerpts from the score (here by John Debney). On the new tip, Joss Stone and Patti LaBelle engage in an overheated battle of the divas on CD opener "Stir It Up," a bouncy piece of fluff that sounds more like Aretha Franklin circa "Freeway of Love" than classic soul. Other originals include Barenaked Ladies' "One Little Slip" (this movie's answer to Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love" from Shrek 2) and the Cheetah Girls' peppy-but-bland cover of "Shake Your Tail Feather." But the real highlights are the songs performed by the movie's vocal cast, which includes Joan Cusack, Garry Marshall, Zach Braff, Steve Zahn, and Amy Sedaris. Their group cover of Elton John and Kiki Dee's "Don¹t Go Breaking My Heart," for instance, sounds as if half of them were drunk in the recording studio (and this is meant as a compliment.) Braff's a cappella version of "We Are the Champions" is smashing and Cusack and Zahn's take on the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" is completely demented. The kids will laugh; their parents will laugh even harder for completely different reasons. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
What fun!.......2007-08-05
Great to hear the old and new songs and to remember a really well done animated film.
my little one loves Chicken Little.......2007-04-05
My husband bought the Chicken Little movie for our 3 year old (mostly to get us OFF the Cars movie that we all have memorized) and he fell in love with it! He likes to act out the scenes and loves the music. He loves this CD at night when he's going to bed. We all have to dance to One Little Slip (he knows all the words) and then we have to "shake our tail feathers" before he jumps in bed every night! I enjoy the cd too, so it's good for everyone!
this is a great kids cd!!.......2007-03-24
My daughter absolutely loves this cd. I could not find it anywhere until i looked on amazon, so thank you amazon!!
Great soundtrack for the children, especially if they liked the movie!.......2007-03-14
My son loved the movie Chicken Little, so we decided to purchase this for him to listen to on his discman. He loves the soundtrack as much as the movie, which made it an awesome investment(especially since the soundtrack has many good singers that aren't too hard on the ears for the adult crowdes either). My son was very happy with this item, and so was I.
Her favorite gift..........2006-12-23
I bought the CD to accompany the movie. My four year old watches the movie everyday. When I gave her the CD, after listening to it nightly, she takes it to bed with her everynight where I have to pry it out of her hands after she falls off to sleep. I don't get it, but she does...so it's worth what I paid for it.

Customer Reviews:
AMAZING TALENT.......2007-03-09
I purchased this CD just after seeing him in person for two hours which was amazing in itself and this CD just carries on the magic that Ottmar has created. He and his band members play with their eyes shut so it is not hard for me to shut my eyes while listening to this CD and think I am on the 2nd row again. I totally recommend this CD to everyone that wants to be transported to an unbelievable place in the universe.
Luxurious Listning.......2006-12-22
It is hard to believe that ~One Guitar~ is just so...1 guitar...played by one human being.
Some how it seems the music melds back onto and into itself, making it's own simple elegant Flamenco symphony. It is clean, clear, smooth and immaculate. I found it most beneficial to leave it playing 24 hours a day in my room, while traveling, to think and dream by...very luxurious and healing to the senses. I find Ottmar Liebert to be an Artist worthy of the highest praise. Salute Sir! Only one thing would be more of a privilege to listen to, and that would be ~One Guitar~ in live Concert!
Music like no other.......2006-12-20
Every time I hear Ottmar's "One Guitar" it reaches me more deeply. This is not pop music that grabs you quickly and lets you go as fast. And though is the greatest of guitarists, the music flows like it comes as easily as breathing. This is music from his heart that goes into my heart and I long to hear it again and again. It's imposible to explain in words.. I'll never tire of it. It helps me feel.
Ottmar Liebert - "One Guitar".......2006-12-05
I've been a fan of Ottmar Liebert since the early 90's. My family and I recenty saw him live in Portsmouth, NH where he performed much of the music on "One Guitar." While I've been disappointed in live perfomances compared to the studio version of a cut, this gentleman performed every piece BRILLIANTLY. It's truly astounding to listen to such beautiful music, and to watch the person creating the music make it look so utterly easy.
This is an enchanting album...classic flamenco performed by the world's finest flamenco player. As an interesting aside, Ottmat Liebert is also quite an accomplished photographer. He ran a slide show with a random selection of his vast library of photos at the concert. It came off beautifully. If you ever get the chance to see him perform live, GO! If not, this album is about as good as flamenco gets!
Cheers,
Jim

Good selection of music, poorly performed and badly arranged. Good album for a tag sale. Same comment applies for Volume I.
Great music listein to while you read in bed.......2005-08-21
I have listened to this CD for the last several years before going to sleep at night. I love classical music, and this is great music to help make my soul feel at peace and unwind after a taxing day.
A must buy for the non-snobbish classical music fan........2004-10-22
I bought Vol. 1 of this series and was quite satisfied, but I have to say I'm more than satisfied with this one. If you can just mellow out and enjoy some great pieces, you'll love this CD. #15 on Disc 2 is almost worth the price alone!
A bliss of spirit........2004-09-18
That's disc will open You a wonderful, beautiful world of sounds, their harmony & emotion : you'll feel your heart full of
Joy, Tears, Love.
Good LUCK!

This Ron Howard film parlays the troubled story of Nobel laureate John Forbes Nash Jr., a gifted Princeton mathematics professor tormented for decades by paranoid schizophrenia, into something considerably richer than typical Hollywood triumph-against-all-odds fare. Howard has teamed here again with frequent collaborator James Horner, and it's the composer who deftly shades the film's difficult emotional landscape and helps impart a compelling humanity. Horner's first task is not inconsiderable: musically portraying the arcane realm of mathematical theorems that are the story's backdrop. In doing so, the composer leans heavily on modern minimalist technique, bright flourishes that recur briefly throughout an orchestral score that increasingly reflects Nash's bleak inner landscape in its quietly somber and brooding tones. And while Horner has frequently been accused of excessively repeating himself in his scores, the neo-minimalist gambit employed on this reflectively pastoral, postmodernist soundscape neatly nips such criticism in the bud. Nash's triumph is ultimately an intensely personal one, well reflected in Welsh soprano Charlotte Church's lilting performance of the Horner/Will Jennings ballad "All Love Can Be." This enhanced CD also features notes by the director and composer, as well as exclusive photos and the film's trailer. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Haven't I heard this before?.......2007-06-20
As other reviewers will tell you yes this is another Horner machine made soundtrack. But it still sounds good! If you are a Horner fan by all means buy it otherwise "at your own risk"!
And another thing that gets me is no one even bothered to mention "Alicia Discovers Nash's Dark World" I happened to like this one this is the song that plays when he is in the hospital.
a beautiful score.......2007-02-09
James Horner's soundtrack for A BEAUTIFUL MIND is as psychologically intense as the film it so effectively embellishes.
Charlotte Church provides an appropriately eerie and largely non-verbal soprano to this remarkable motion picture score, yet one that would seem only quirky were it not so beautifully embedded in a musical stream that draws one inexorably and almost vicariously into the emotional turbulence of the Princeton mathematician John Nash.
There is an angelic nature to the shape and texture of this music, one that is able to turn demonic as the story line requires. Both by brilliance and by dementia, Nash seems the object of external forces, rising with supreme heroism (at least in the film's version of events) to conquer. The music is there at each score, coaxing the viewer into empathic solidarity with this deeply troubled man and his long-suffering and preternaturally beautiful wife.
This is mood music of the deeply engaging variety. Its lush tonal landscape is achieved under the baton of the composer himself. The score's vast range of volume and expression would certainly have made it a joy to watch in performance.
Alas, we don't have that.
But we have this.
An ethereal, compelling, even gripping tone poem. Buy it.
A Beautiful Mind.......2006-08-09
Absolutely gorgeous - my husband keeps it in his car and listens to it whenever he's driving.
Haunting, lovely, majestic.......2006-04-04
The sound track for "A Beautiful Mind" stayed with me long after the movie. The CD has all the themes that made the movie so emotionally powerfull. James Horner, composer and conductor, perfectly matches the excitement of genius and the terror of mental disability. Charlotte Church's clear and gentle voice compliments the music and used instrumentally creates a haunting refrain. I loved the movie and this music is wonderful.
Dark.......2006-02-20
This is one of the darkest and most emotional soundtrack, and yet it is filled with more inspiring songs.
Best soundtrack ive ever heard.

A recording likely to delight enthusiasts and perplex the uninitiated, All One is a 54-minute, four-part suite rooted in devotional yoga and dedicated, as the liner notes explain, to the "Sacred Names...revealed to us by the Great Beings who manifest Truth." All One presents four essentially seamless tracks in which the Hare Krishna mantra is repeated over and over, yet with gradual fluctuations in musical context, ranging from a worshipful near-drone to a jangly, celebratory sort of pop. (Note: Absorbing so much lyrical repetition may require an especially enlightened state of mind.) Krishna Das, a native New Yorker born Jeffrey Kagel who embraced Indian spiritual pursuits in the late 1960s, is the production's unifying force, half-singing, half-groaning the names and eliciting joyful replies from a 70-voice choir in recurring call-and-response patterns. Among the recording's numerous participants are bassist and co-producer Walter Becker of Steely Dan, co-producer Jay Messina (who has worked with Aerosmith), and drummer Rick Allen of Def Leppard, though their contributions are transparent in the mix of many other musicians. Instead, the focus is on the repetitious chants of Das (who also plays harmonium) and the sense of connectedness and oneness they aspire to engender among all listeners. --Terry Wood
Album Description
"All One" is Krishna Das' first new studio recording in two years. Featuring Walter Becker and Def Leppard's Rick Allen, "All One" is a Mantric suite in four movements. "All One" covers musical ground from western classical music to South African township music.
Co-produced by Walter Becker, "All One" features a 20 instrument orchestra and 70 voices. Other musicians included on this recording are longtime Krishna Das sideman Ty Burhoe and guitarist/composer David Nichtern.

KD: Variations on a theme - masterfully done.......2007-08-05
What to say?
This is a tour de force by one of the great Kirtan artists.
Krishna Das takes a very simple Mantra and he uses it to create a great many different moods. He never loses the reverence for the mantra, but he takes the listener through many different moods, ranging from great dignity and formality to isolation, to joy and playfulness. It's infectious and almost impossible to resist singing along.
This CD shows why Krishna Das is the greatest American Kirtan artist, possibly the greatest in the world.
Having gushed all over how wonderful this suite is, I now have to warn you that it is an hour of the exact same lyric:
Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna
Hare Hare
Hare Rama
Hare Rama
Rama Rama
Hare Hare
Some people may not groove on it. When I share KD with others, I get one of 2 reactions - either they love it, or they don't get it. I think it may be an acquired taste for some people.
I want to repeat a point another reviewer made: This is a GREAT CD for an energetic vinyasa or power yoga session! It starts you out slow and builds strongly.
Best of its Genre.......2007-07-07
I listen to this album all the time. It has great power and I feel the bliss that Krishna Dass inspires in those who chant in alternation with him. There are no other albums in this genre that I would recommend as highly as this one.
One of the best yoga CD's.......2007-04-14
I love this music for yoga. I teach yoga and this is one of my favorite CD's to play in class. Excellent music!
Review of Krishna Das.......2007-01-12

Customer Reviews:
Great Job, Johnny!.......2007-05-24
How refreshing when an artist comes back well into his career to produce an album that can stand up to the best of his work. This album contains several tracks that pop out as instant Johnny Clegg classics at the first listen, and others that grow on you with subsequent listenings, all with interesting lyrics. Other reviews in this section have described the music eloquently. The CD booklet contains lyrics and translations of key phrases into English when he sings in other languages, so I'd recommend getting the CD rather than downloading. One of the big mysteries to me is why Clegg is not a household-name superstar in the States & Canada. His music is infectious, and his concerts are uplifting and thoroughly enjoyable, with the audience up and dancing through most of the show. I was thrilled when he came to the city near where I vacation for shows in the summers of '04 and '05. Amazingly, neither show was sold out at smallish venues, but the crowds were most enthusiastic and appreciative. What will it take to 'spread the word' about Johnny Clegg after all these years?
Welcome Back!.......2007-04-11
It's about time Johnny came back to his roots! This is an excellent release that just took took took took long... but worth the wait.
Johnny is fantastic!!.......2007-02-22
Johnny Clegg's latest album is wonderful as so many of his albums are.
His music is some of the most uplifting music I have ever listened to.
If you ever have a chance to see him in concert, you wouldn't be dissappointed!
The Johnny we love is back!.......2006-12-20
After 2002's new sound of his "New World Survivor" release, I thought he was moving away from his signature sound (the mix of zulu chanting and rhythms with western pop rock), but his latest is an encouraging welcome back to the sound he perfected in 1997's "Crocodile Love" cd. While I disagree with a previous reviewer that "New World Survivor" lacked any songs with a memorable hook (it had three such irresistable songs: "Colours of Change", "Into the Picture", and "New World Survivor") or that his latest cd also lacks any truly memorable songs. No, this cd is full of songs that I can't sit still to!
The most single-worthy song is "The Revolution will eat its children". If you can ignore for a minute the oddness of the title, it has a catchy rhythm and a very hip "echo" effect on the word "gun", which I don't think I've ever heard in any song before. The song deserves to be the first single released, to remind listeners that Johnny is back in fine form. Other irresistable songs include "Thamela", "Makhabeleni", "Utshani Obulele" (my personal favourite song on this cd), and "Four Box Square" (about the relative sameness of the towns/cities he travels in on tour). The other single worthy songs are "I Don't Want to Be Away" (where he laments about being away from his wife while touring with his band) and "Locked and Loaded" (which sounds like a violent song, but is really about a man making the commitment to marriage). Both songs are quite catchy and would play well on radio, even the rather narrow minded American ones.
In addition to 15 new songs, we get to hear Johnny sing in Afrikaans ("Thamela--Die son trek water") and French ("Faut pas baisser les bras") for the first time. And the classic Johnny sound I mentioned earlier? He has that "ho-hum-oh-hum" chant going on in one of his songs that is easily recognizeable to older songs of his. All of this was missing on his last cd, when he experimented with a new sound (similar to Madonna's post Evita sound). All I can say is, welcome back, Johnny! I never get tired of his "old sound" because he finds ways of making it sound fresh again. If I wanted to hear Madonna-esque melodies, I'd buy her cds, but Johnny has something unique that no one else can offer, so if Johnny no longer offers that unique sound, what are fans left with? So, please support Johnny by getting this CD! And if he tours North America to promote this cd, go see his tour. You won't regret it. It'll be the most energized show you'll ever see.
Johnny is back.......2006-12-19
This is the band's best album in years. It is a return to the mixture of Western and Zulu rhythms, and English and Zulu lyrics that make this group so exciting and get me dancing around the house. What other music makes me think I actually understand Zulu, even though I don't, just because I get the music in my soul? It brings back the excitement of the live concerts and makes me remember why I really, really love this band.
One minor quibble: why are all the pictures of Johnny? I want to see Andy, Barry, Mandisa!
