5 out of 5 stars THIS ALBUM IS "THE [BEST]".......2002-03-01

There is no other way to describe this album; that
is what my friends and I call it. It is one of the
few, perhaps the only album, that can make you
hallucinate. It is otherworldly and outlandish; it
creates the ultimate setting. It calms and soothes
your heart and brain after a night of intense ... partying. It is best listened to
in pre-dawn and dawn hours, lying down, while you're
in pretendo-sleep or can't sleep because your nose
is stuffed. This album makes it all better. On a
purely musical level it's all deep bass and bizarre
samples, creeping rhythm and Bill Laswell's usual
[GREAT] production.

4 out of 5 stars One of the better Laswell projects.......2001-10-10

This is one of Mr. Laswell's more rootsy, authentic-sounding projects, thanks to Style Scott's rock solid riddims. I don't get the nuclear theme... fortunately, any "atomic" references are mostly cosmetic, on the cover and song titles, but kept out of the actual music. Some of the songs go on a bit too long (a Laswell trademark), but it's perfect if you just put it on in the background for atmosphere. It's all the highest quality, nonetheless. In the great big wide world of Dub, this is one that is worth seeking out.

4 out of 5 stars Essential 90s dub album.......1999-09-01

Style Scott of On-U on percussion and Bill Laswell on bass = dub heaven. Some hypnotic bass lines but occasionally the effects on the percussion are a bit overstated, hence 4 stars. Buy this album if you love dub.

5 out of 5 stars Quality dub from two masters of the genre.......1999-02-20

This is a pure dub excursion piloted by two timeless masters.Producer-Bassist extrordinaire Bill Laswell and Master Percussionest Style Scott(Dub Syndicate,On-u Sound,etc.).This is a flawless album of thick bass and precision perfect drums that recalls the roots dub feeling of the forgotten geniuses who sought to give us an alterate perspective on the way we interpert music. An important dub album of the 90's.

4 out of 5 stars a lost album from (alas) a lost tribe.......2002-02-09

As befits the image of TGU as tribal music co-op, we get a bunch of remixes of "Temple Head" era TGU tracks, plus another bunch of mixes by TGU themselves, with no theme anywhere in sight (though there are a few nice segues). While the quality control knob is not at its highest setting on this disc, the standouts far outnumber the duds. And as the loose tribe that was TGU becomes a lost tribe (judging from their more recent output), it's good to have a document like Interplanetary Meltdown to remind us of better times, international or not.

Justin Robertson's Lionrock Kick da Flavour remix of International Times features beeps and glisses snakily interweaving with bass curlicues, served up to a compelling rock-steady dancebeat. Later, TGU throws in elements from Protean plus some Gyoto Monk action in their Rasa Bliss remix, taken from Grotus' Opiate of the Masses EP. And all power to Youth's Isis Mix of Temple Head: spanning the generation gap between Killing Joke and TGU, chopping the original into rock-sized units, flanging to taste, and climaxing with those joyous close-encounter UFO-summoning samples "watch the skies - tell this to everybody where ever they are!"
