Brilliant.......2007-01-03

Discerning which is Clannad's best album isn't easy ... "Anam", "Banba" and "Landmarks" are all very worthy contenders, but I think "Lore" is the best of the lot, albiet by a small margin, as their albums are very consistent.

There are certainly no weak tracks here. Opening with the brilliant, dark and atmosphereic "Croi Croga", followed by the upbeat and feelgood "Seanchas", the album continues without letting up on beautiful moods that are deeply moving, right through to the end.

I hope Clannad continue to release albums, as the world needs inspiring music like this. An absolutely great album.

"broken pieces" and "farewell love" are absolute
priceless gems off this cd. excellent
harmonies! clannad has won awards around the globe deservingly so. their music is gentle and soothing. maire brennan, lead singer of clannad, is the older sister of ENYA.
they have also made film music, notably for harrison ford's "patriot games" and others.
all their albums are good, try any one of them and relax.
if you love enya, you'll love her family.....CLANNAD.

Wonderful stuff.......2003-08-01

This is one of my very favorite Clannad releases! Outstanding tracks include Croi Croga, Seanchas, A Bridge That Carries Us Over, From Your Heart, Alasdair MacColla, Trathnona Beag Areir (especially haunting) and Dealramh Go Deo. The Gaelic songs are great for those trying to learn some Gaelic, especially the Donegal Gaeltacht. Buy it!

Good, not great and not their best.......2003-04-26

Strangely enough, this is not a 'best of' compilation, which Clannad seems fond of releasing. In the case of "Lore", an anthology would be better advised. Track two, 'Seanchas' and eight, 'Trail of Tears', rise above the rest of this CD. Clannad is good; no doubt that the Brennan/Duggan quartet is strongly gifted and talented. In particular, Maire Brennan's voice sometimes sound ethereal and beautifully other-worldly, but "Lore" isn't a particularly strong showcase of their collective and individual talents. "A Magical Gathering" would be better recommended, even though it is one of the 'best of' anthologies.

Good Stuff.......2003-03-30

I have listened to a LOT of this group, and I must say that this is Clannad at their best. Though Clannad has a tendency to repeat songs on consecutive CD's, this one is refreshingly devoid of that. Croi Croga, the very first track, is among the best on the album, and Alasdair MacColla is among the best I've ever heard. Other excellent songs include Trail of Tears and From Your Heart, but there is nothing worse than "good" on this CD. This is truly a great from a great group.

A seasoned ear.......2002-01-08

Lore has been on the top of my play-list for 6 years. While the band may be a bit more unique live, this album is simply one of the best I've heard in a long time. If you are close-minded and want bands to sound the same live, look for the Strangefolk self titled demo that pre-dated Lore. It is full of jams and creativity not to mention "FUNK." It is my opinion that we are in a musical period where there are too many so called "underground" bands that in reality are mainstream. They have some good stuff here and there, but lack consistency. Ask yourself; How many discs do I have that I consistently play front to back?
Lore works, and they are nice guys.

Strange Doesn't Come Better Than This.......2001-08-07

These guys are insane.......2001-06-28

I first saw these guys a couple months ago and I have been addicted ever since. This was the best concert I've ever been too, and I've been to a lot. I don't know what some of these other reviews are trying to say; just because they are a "jam band" doesn't mean they're supposed to have a funk sound like Phish. Recently, rythym guitarist and lead singer on most of Strangefolk's songs, Reid Genauer, left the band. But I think the band sounds even better with the new guitarist Patchen Montgomery and keyboardist Scott Shdeed. If you don't like every track on this CD you have bad taste in music.

What are your expectations?.......2000-07-26

This is NOT stellar (or even capable) jam/jazz-funk/whatever (you know what I'm talking about) - more like "jam-band lite". If you enjoy the sounds of Matchbox 20 and their ilk and think that Phish's songs are too long and complicated, then this may be a great CD for you. Personally, I was VERY disappointed after being suckered by all the 5-star reviews. I have seen these guys live and, like most regional bands, their studio effort fails to capture their live energy/sound. That being said, I wasn't impressed with their live performance, either (YES, I caught a good show - the "faithful" told me it was "classic" . . . poor saps!). These guys are quaint, but lack the chops and conviction to engage this listener. I sold it after (too) many attempts to find some redeeming quality. A "nice" effort from a band that is undoubtedly a bunch of great guys, but "Lore" finishes where "nice" guys usually do . . . last.

DONT DO IT.......2000-07-01

No no no. I read the reviews here. I was tempted by the 5 star ratings. I am all about good regional bands. But this--UNCLE already. "Like nothing you've ever heard before"? Maybe so, but if you can imagine Widespread suffering the misfortune of having to back Edwin McCain some cold and dreary early May Saturday at Blockbuster Pavillion, you really don't want to hear this CD. This is not the CD you're looking for. Move along. Move along.

Boy, can I ever describe this for you. Okay, take Ministry's loudest and most dense work, put a fuzz filter on it that buries everything in mud and then mix it half shoegazer and half ambient drone and you get songs aptly titled like "World Deafening Eclipse". Got it? The only way this even comes close to working is played at top volume at 3AM in a club where everyone is dressed in black and chains. But the music is well written, it's not just a bunch of noise, there are (deeply embedded) hooks in there and enough compelling passages in a NIN sort of way so that it's actually listenable. Some people are really going to dig this, but I'll pass. I like dark music, but I never get this gloomy!
