Ustad is correct!.......2003-02-02
Ustad is roughly the Hindi eqivalent to the English "master" or "maestro." Sharif Khan definately desverves the title here. I've only heard these tracks from him, but it's obvious he has quite a bit of talent. The first track is the album's epic. 27 minutes of complete on the edge improvising. The next to bring down the scale a bit to balance it out and calm the storm that came before. Also this album is mixed much better than most Indian classical recordings. The tamboura is really captured well as it moves in and out like an ocean's tide. Why only four stars, well the tabla playing is excellent, but I wish it was featured just a little more, as Ali Akbar Khan does with his tablaist. This is wonderful music.
