A Songwriter's Journey.......2007-03-09
The thing I like the best about this album is that it ebbs and flows with an edgy sense of doom at any minute. Kind of like life. "I worry often. I live in terror of what life may have in store"(Nice Day). I hear what you're saying Womack and I'm glad you've got the guts to lay it on the line. A Cockroach After the Bomb rants and rocks and just keeps spewing out confessional truths until there's nothing left to say except "I'll go to my grave knowing I took me a chance". Damn straight Womack- you did take a chance. You could of given up a few years ago when things went black, but you found strength in your family, God, and music. The skinny white boy can still lay down a groove too- check out Flourescent Light Blues(nice guitar solo). Good production by John Deaderick. Well mixed record with fine backing musicians who only play to complement the messages in the songs. Rock on TW.
Well Said.......2007-03-04
Life giving you the blues?Take a dose of Tommy Womack,s "There I said it."One Saturday driving between the Post Office and the Bank I happened to hear " alpha male and the canine mystery blood," on the X.I was hooked. I aquired the cd and had one of the best afternoons in recent years listening to the tunes and reading the liner notes,(best I,ve ever read.)My wife and I were reduced to tears of laughter. Thanks for the catharsis,Tommy. We have Closure.
thank you tommy womack.......2007-02-28
buy this disc if you think americans are smart, deep, happy, sad, and funny. Womack is. His gift is worth the price of admission.
Call the engravers now - Womack flat out nails the best album of 2007! .......2007-02-27
I cried, I laughed, I winced, I sang along and I got my socks rocked off! Then I looked in the mirror and realized that these songs hit awful close to home. The album is about Womack finding himself facing a new post-rock & roll world after forty as a family man trying to make ends meet. But the words still find a way to reach just about everyone staring down the "other side of the hill" and wondering just what the heck you do after pouring more than half your life in to something only to find out it didn't quite work out as planned.
The title song finds Tommy proclaiming "I'm never gonna be a rock star..." then admitting it is time to move on maybe "...There I Said It". Ironically enough that admission, and the aftermath of opening the floodgates and letting loose a torrent of truthfulness in song rarely heard in this day and age, may be the catalyst to finally propel Womack to rock star status!
At the least, you won't be disappointed in this album. For many though this album will be a downright cathartic experience!
For fans of fellow Nervous Wrecks Todd Snider and Will Kimbrough as well as the likes of Hayes Carll, Bobby Bare Jr, John Prine, Keith Sykes, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Paul Thorn and more.
Promises to be the Best of 2007.......2007-02-26
Its early in the year, but this promises to be the album of the year, and perhaps the decade. Up there with the best of Steve Earle, John Prine or Todd Snider, but with a haunting authenticity worthy of Kevin Gordon or Ray Wylie Hubbard. Buy it! Buy one for every real friend you have! Hug your children/dog/cat, your wife/husband/partner, and start thanking your lucky stars for your own mis-spent youth.

Cedar Walton Revisited.......2005-06-23
Just one year after recording his impeccable "Composer" album for the AstorPlace label, which featured new(er) songs composed by this masterful jazz composer and tasteful pianist, the same record label let him enter into the Rudy van Gelder Studio again for another winner with exclusively his own compositions. On this he revisits older material, which gets a completely fresh take in the hands of a band to die for: the rhythm section is made up of Ron Carter on bass and Lewis Nash on drums, who gel perfectly together with Cedar's piano playing. Behind them is a cracking ensemble to give more body to the sound, consisting of some six players (five on brass and reeds and one on percussion). On top Joshua Redman, Terence Blanchard and Mark Whitfield are featured on three tunes each and they sound terrific and inspired, too. The recording quality is crisp on top, thanks to RvG's mastery. So there is only one conclusion: highly recommended and an incredible bargain!

Customer Reviews:
Great for fans, sound quality subpar.......2003-02-15
The detraction of this collection is of course the fact it's a bootleg, and some of the songs are lacking when vocals or guitar aren't coming through as much as you'd like.
But on the plus side, you get to hear a bunch of acoustic stuff, and some covers and alternate versions of songs. If you're into the Wu, it's great.
If you're not into the Wu yet, I'd recommend Tracking Buffalo.
A Live Set Like None Other.......2002-08-05
This is an album that sits right in the middle of the band's progression from being a cover band to becoming the full-out original jam band that they have become, which means that this album has a lot of Wu originals as well as a lot of classic blues, Grateful Dead, and even a bit of Led Zeppelin. For a bootleg album, the mic-ing was perfect, giving you a very clean live recording that still captures the sound of the CCC where they played. Listening through a powerful stereo system is nice, but listening to this album through headphones is an absolute auditory treat.
Some of the tracks are a little shaky, like Silcanturnitova and Take The World By Storm, but these can still be fun to listen to, and its the versions of Wu-original "Elani" and "Bird On The Wing," along with the classic "Dark Star" are absolutely epic. Definitely one of my favorite albums. Great for road trips!
Diverse, powerful, and entertaining..........2002-07-04
A great three disc album that demonstrates the Big Wu's unparalled jamming capabilities, and also their diversity of song selection. 3/13/99 is always among the tops of Big Wu traders' lists, and if you just listen you'll find out why. The acoustic is great, but the third disc is what does it for me. The Big Wu bust out some of their crowd favorites with Kangaroo, Gimme A Raise (with some excellent keyboard solos), S.O.S. with kashmir jam (yeah the rocking zeppelin tune), the always fun Werewolves of London, and of course, ending with Red Sky. If you like the Big Wu: buy it. If you've never heard of the Big Wu, but you like jambands: buy it. You should probably just buy it anyway. I gave it a four because the sound quality isn't always profound and superb, but it's a bootleg so what are you gonna do? I'd give it 4.5 if i could.
