About the Artist
MICKO LEÏ was firstborn in Angola of Eva Jose and Carlos de Oliveira but the singer left his country in the 80s to travel and find a place to become first a professional athlete then what he always dreamt to be: a singer. After living in Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, MICKO LEÏ settled down in the United States of America where he recorded his CD "Dreams of Life". MICKO LEÏ started his career as a singer in the capital of Europe, in 1994, as he was trusted to recorded "Pombo Branco"in the album "Pe 115" by Carlos Nando. MICKO LEÏ sang the rap that means "White Dove" and it is still played today for millions of people on the national radio in his native country. That rap that symbolizes the end of a 30 years civil war is acclaimed by the Angolan Press Angop, in Africa and Europe. From 1994 till 1997, MICKO LEÏ toured in Belgium and the Netherlands with divers groups of artists singing rap, rock, reggae, music from Angola and Uganda, performing in European festivals and places with television and radio exposure such as The Botanique, Emergenza Rock, Vakantiebeurs, aso. In 1998, MICKO LEÏ began to perform as lead vocal and he gave two concerts as a volunteer to benefit Guinee Buissau and ex-Zaire, Congo. In that concert of solidarity, the President of the Belgian Senate appreciated so much the talent of the singer songwriter that he changed the citizenship of MICKO LEÏ who became Belgian. MICKO LEÏ wrote and recorded the songs of his "Dreams of Life" in Brussels in 1998 and produced in 2002 the whole album in Los Angeles where he is now living. He features the well-known Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Gilberto Gil and Djavan but also released his personal compositions. The tracks "Dream" and "Lady Di" are dedicated to the personalities MICKO LEÏ acknowledges for their work. Dr Martin Luther King Jr., for the civil rights movement and Princess Lady Diana for helping the handicap victims of the mines in Angola. The CD "Dreams of Life" was released in September 2003 and the tracks started being played in different radio programs such as the "Global Village" hosted by Sergio Mielniczenko, "Afrodicia" hosted by DJ Nnamdi, rebroadcasting 24/7 online especially reaching all the world. Not only with the KPFK radio of Los Angeles, 90.7 FM, which covers most of Southern California, including Santa Barbara station, but also in Atlanta, Georgia, did MICKO LEÏ began to be recognized in the USA. He was interviewed twice by DJ Nnamdi, once for the radio "Afrodicia" and the second time for the international radio "Voice of America" with the "Journal of Africa" broadcasting worldwide and especially in many English speaking African countries. As for the performances of MICKO LEÏ, the Lion of Angola, member of BMI, they were acclaimed in Long Beach, at the Bixby Land and at the Leimert Park, in the African American community of Crenshaw, when the City of Los Angeles asked MICKO LEÏ to perform for the celebration of Kwanzaa the 28th December 2003. The open air concert was filmed and recorded by the media as MICKO LEÏ and the NGOLA BAND appeared for the first time with his official band. MICKO LEÏ with his CD "Dreams of Life" offers to the people "Life", Hope and Love as the singer likes to fight for equal rights, justice and peace around the world. MICKO LEÏ can sing different kinds of music such as the Angolan Semba, the Reggae, Afro beat, Slow, Dance, the Latino, the Brazilian style and Western influences. His activism and that blended music surely make of MICKO LEÏ an innovator in the industry of the music for the next decades!

5 out of 5 stars Popsike Extremedies.......2007-08-01

The 99 tracks on Real Life Permanent Dreams run the range from Pop to Freakbeat to early Prog. Some are from famous artists (The Kinks, Donovan, Jethro Tull). But, most are obscure although a few appear on similar compilations like Mojo's Acid Drops, Nuggets II and Paisley Pop.

There are a few covers here as well. The Fleur De Lys' Circles is very close to The Who's original. Julie Driscoll's Season Of The Witch is a little different than Donovan's. The covers show how these bands influenced and were influenced by each other.

If you can't get enough authentic sixties Popsike, this set's for you.

4 out of 5 stars Another rosey view through the window pane.......2007-07-17

I'm somewhat proud (and embarrassed :)) to have amassed almost 100 compilations on British beat/freakbeat/pop/sike/popsike, alone. These prized discs represent years of feckless and self-indulgent preoccupation (as it undoubtedly appears to the wife) in hunting down these imported hen's teeth which seem to go out of print as fast as they are released. So...to actually find something new that doesn't cover the same soggy, trodden ground and/or presents a fresh perspective with new tracks and artists is a rare and welcome discovery. This collection seems to do that very thing. Yes, it has a few familiar faces and some big names sprinkled in, but they are generally overlooked album cuts or b-sides that lend credence to the period and flow of ideas being passed around musically, like a joint. Not everyone who will buy this box set may be as sophisticated as some of us "chronically obsessive types", but they should enjoy this interesting assemblage on listen-ability alone. On the surface it is reminiscent (albeit much less obvious) of The British Nuggets II box and is divided onto four discs, "Sowing The Seeds", "Plant A Flower Today", Happydaystoytown" and Circus Days Are Here Again" which dance almost chronologically up through the years '65-'70. It comes with a nice glossy booklet that follows track for track, giving one some sense of history, the players and their trajectories. A worthy addition from one of the only big name labels, Castle/Sanctuary, who seem to think it important to continue to invest energy and pounds in this historical genre.

It seems pretty clear that Ronan Tynan has no intention of resting on his laurels. Despite a stunning string of world-dominating, top-selling releases as a member of the much-loved Irish Tenors--not to mention his accomplishments as a champion athlete, an M.D., and a memoirist (see his recently published Halfway Home: My Life 'til Now)--the singer has now released his debut solo effort on Sony Classical. No matter which member of the Irish Tenors happens to be your favorite, My Life Belongs to You is a treat, affording as it does a chance to bask in the deeply expressive, mellifluous voice of Tynan. He has chosen his selections well and is equally poised and tender in classics from Mario Lanza ("Because You're Mine," "I'll Walk with God"), Broadway, and sacred music. What's especially wonderful is the opportunity to hear Tynan's emotionally gripping vocalism from so many angles. The mixing by Frank McNamara gives a lovely old-time feeling to the orchestral playing--a bit like a treasured old sepia photograph. A bonus track of Irving Berlin's "God Bless America" is included. --Sarah Chin

1 out of 5 stars He should have stayed with Irish music........2007-04-04

Ronan Tynon was my favorite of 'The Irish Tenors;' so I was excited when I saw this cd. But, it was a big disappointment. The singing is mechanical; there is no personality, no emotion. The 'bonus track,' an unaccompanied "God Bless America," serves only to accentuate the absence of feeling. He should have stayed with Irish music.

A real sleeper in the Ronan Tynan series. First rate.

5 out of 5 stars Ronan Tynan.......2007-01-10

I assume this is a great cd, since we own 3 Ronan Tynan cd's. This however was a gift for a friend , bought specifically for the song "God Bless America." He did, however rave about it to us, so it must be terrific.

5 out of 5 stars Ronan at his most Emotional.......2005-11-26

This cd "My Life Belongs to You" is Ronan at his greatest. Each song he sings shows the great emotion he has in his voice. Ronan can sing each one of these to me anytime. He has great clarity and emotion as he sings. Love the CD "My Life Belongs to You."

5 out of 5 stars greatest living tenor.......2005-03-22

Ronan Tynan is an amazing vocalist, and an amazing man. I'd never heard of him until, in the 2001 World Series, he sang "God Bless America," at Yankee Stadium. From then on, my husband was hooked. He bought this album as soon as he heard of it, and his culture level, musically speaking, is usually -----. But this is the exception that proves every rule. "my Life Belongs to You," "You'll Never Walk Alone," and above all else "The Holy City," are faves of his. This is easily the best recording of "Holy City," still in print. Nelson Eddy did the original, but sadly, no recording of it is known to exist. if only, lord, if only ... but until then, this is a masterpiece. "Roses of Picardy," is a thousand times better than the jazzed-up version of it Frankie Layne did. who was he kidding? This is a slow, tender ballad, and Tynan brings it off with spectacular flair. There's none like him--and where would we put one if there was?

5 out of 5 stars More than just a good listen... it stir the soul! .......2007-05-31

Soon as you put the CD on, you are transported to another time... another place. The music sooths, as the words spoken by the beast penetrate to the deepest part of your soul. You're emotionally spent, yet feel more alive than ever after your journey.

I bought this years ago when it first came out on Cassette (gives you an idea how long ago that was) I listened to it so many times the tape wore out. I just ordered the CD.... I can't wait for the journey to begin again...thank you Vincent!

5 out of 5 stars I Loved this Show and this Album.......2006-06-09

I bought the CD today as a backup in case my original signed by Ron Perlman CD wears out. I keep waiting for the owners of this series to release at least the first 2 season on DVD. I have no interest in owning the 3rd season when the show broke my heart. I wish someone would redo this show in it's original conception as a movie or a TV series. I loved the show and was a great fan of the Love and Hope shown by Catherine and Vincent.

5 out of 5 stars Of Love And Hope.......2006-04-07

Hi! I bought "Of Love & Hope" last November, through Amazon.com, and I must say, I enjoy it! However; the producers of this album, which I love, should have used another introduction instead of just the MUSIC. Why not use the main theme, where Vincent and Catherine introduce each other? THAT would have been great!! After all, Cathy was also a great character on the show!

I hereby recommend this album to all Beauty and the Beast fans out there. I have listened to it so often, that now, I can recite more poems by heart! BATB FOREVER!

5 out of 5 stars Lushly Romantic!.......2005-09-04

I was a great fan of the TV series, "Beauty and the Beast" and owned the cassette version of "Of Love and Hope" in which Ron Purlman as Vincent reads poetry by Shakespeare, Lord Byron, Shelly, Rilke and other greats, interspersed with beautiful music, mostly from the soundtrack of the series. As I love beautiful music and beautiful words, I counted this tape among my treasures. When the tape eventually became damaged, I truly was distraught. I am delighted to now own the CD, which brought me instant pleasure which can only continue for the rest of my life.

5 out of 5 stars Moves me to tears..........2005-07-06

I actually have this on cassette, bought years ago before television network executives butchered this incredibly beautiful show, and dug it out of storage recently. Interestingly enough, I found that I had forgotten none of it. Never has music spoken so eloquently to my heart, nor represented a television show so clearly and wonderfully. Ron Perlman's "Vincent" voice, interpreting the classical literary selections in this, is sensual, articulate, undeniably romantic. It's one of the most unusual collections of music and poetry I've ever come across, a fitting and fine representation of the show.
My favorite is the opening theme of the series, with lyrics sung and "Vincent's" "No one, not even the rain, has such small hands" intonation.
The television show and it's tragic, other-worldly love story was too perfect to last long on tv. I'm glad that fans such as myself have been able to hold onto rememberances of the show such as this marvelous, sweeping score. I only wish that it could be re-released on Cd, along with dvds of the series. Fans have been keeping the magic alive all these years; it's time we were recognized.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Really, really, REALLY BAD!.......2006-11-22

Bought and returned it with the first few minutes after sliding it into the player. The cover art is nice. As for the, um, muzak, I expected something less...fuzzy. Even the player hated it, spitting it out within seconds after tasting the first track.
If any of the original movie scores rate 5 stars, this rates a solid 10 black holes, IMHO.

1 out of 5 stars Deceptive Title & Trade Dress.......2006-07-27

The title line of this product says Enya (Composer), Roma Enya / Ryan (Composer), Annie / Walsh, Fran / Shore, Howard Lennox (Composer), Howard Shore (Composer), Fran Shore Howard / Walsh (Composer). Had I read the descriptions more closely, I would have seen that the composers were listed in a way that made no sense. Rather, the list merely is composed of the names of the writers, musicians, and composers of the music in Peter Jackson's trilogy, so that someone who is familiar with the music of the trilogy would be deceived into buying this subpar and inadequate product. The trade dress is deceptive enough that it might border on trademark/trade dress infringment of the real stuff.
If you are a fan of the LOTR soundtracks and/or Howard Shore, I would avoid this product and opt for: 1) the official soundtracks of the trilogy; and 2) The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring The Complete Recordings. Let's hope they follow up with the Two Towers and the Return of the King Complete Recordings.

1 out of 5 stars This was a major disappointment.......2006-06-21

Too bad I can't give this one no stars. This disk is really bad. The performance is by a bland synthesizer "orchestra" without any of the depth or emotion you can find on the movie soundtracks. I would sell this CD back to the music store where I bought it, but then somebody else might be tempted to buy it. No; this disk is headed for the trash bin.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth your money.......2006-05-14

Simply put, this album corrupts Howard Shore's music in the same way the ring tried to corrupt Frodo. The more you listen to it, the more you realize you should have bought the original soundtrack.

1 out of 5 stars LOTR meets New Age.......2005-10-01

I wish I had read the other reviews before buying. 78 minutes of meandering through (and maiming) Howard Shore's fantastic work. No focus, no edge to the playing, themes apparently put together at random. The horns are poorly synthesized and sound pretty cheezy. Spend your money on the movie soundtrack. I wish I had.

After seeing the 3rd spy kids film, I heard the soundtrack. The songs in the film ae great, including Alexa Vega doing that
duet with co-star Bobby edner, singing Heart Drive.
If you know the movie, you'll love the soundtrack!(14 year old)

I also live in the Go-Ill along with Bigg Nastee' and I am definitely feelin' him with all of his lyrics especially on it done been one and ghetto cousins. Nastee' felt that he had to be the don of this rap game, and he came out strong to prove it. I just hope that mercury and all the other labels involved with his project push him enough and have enough promotion behind him so that not only Chicago knows of him, because is album is hot. That's what's up.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31

The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

    5 out of 5 stars Xena;Warrior Princess volume six.......2002-01-09

I am so happy that the last and final cd has come out, now my collection is complete. I am very sad for the show ending, but I am glad to still collect things.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2001-12-25

Well, I have them all by now, but this last one is a great collection, with the added bonus of the music from A Friend In Need.
Just another fine addition to my Xena collection!

    5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2001-11-30

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month! That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included, especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though, there is a complain:i can't understand, why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song, the cues from the Bacchaen festival, music from Deja Vou All Over Again, where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest! That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style, should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes. It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song, will agree with me!Mmmm!

4 out of 5 stars A MIX OF THE BEST, THE WORST AND THE MISSING.......2001-11-29

To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

With music that deeply touches the soul, Kerri expresses the emotions of people's everyday living. Rediscover the extraordinary in life...rediscover romance, the heart, the home. An evocative album extremely well-received by adult contemporary listeners as well as new age fans!

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This Part of the Journey.......2001-08-04

This album and its title song are a bountiful blend of lyric and line. A beautiful instrumental that takes the listener to a peaceful Sunday afternoon. The musicality of the piece is calming and harmonious allowing a tranquil moment, yet there is a complexity in the melody that makes one anxious for more. A wonderful find.
