Fabulous.......2005-10-23
This DVD is spectacular. Andre Rieu is absolutely fascinating to listen to and the costumes of the orchestra as gorgeous. Well worth every penny.
Andre Rieu "Fiesta".......2005-09-20
This CD is absolutely fantastic. There is no musician quite like Andre Rieu. His music does indeed lift the spirit.
Fiesta.......2005-09-12
The music lifts my spirits! It is fun and lighthearted. I sincerely recommend this CD by Andre Rieu.
Not the best versions available.......2002-02-12
First of all, why call this recording
"Fiesta"? only for the first four latin-american
works? because the rest of the cd is of
German music.I you want a real "Fiesta"
disc, I recomendation is that disc
of Keith Lockhart, is much more fun and
much more in a fiesta spirit than this one.
This is a great album!.......2002-01-02
I highly recommend this album. Andre Rieu is a great violinist. If you buy this album you will not be dissappointed. I'd give it ten stars if I could.

Album Description
It's undeniable that wine and music complement one another. This CD illuminates this fact with songs from wine producing nations around the world. The tasting starts in Europe with the French singer-songwriter Pauline Croze, whose contemporary chanson gives a modern twist to the vintage genre. Vinicio Capossela and Gianmaria Testa prove that Italy's appreciation for the fine arts extends to song weaving as well as winemaking. Spain's Amparanoia sings about a love paradox that could apply to drinking wine as well. Portugal's Jorge Fernando provides the perfect soundtrack for a glass of his country's famous port wine. Though now living in exile in France, Chile's Mariana Montalvo and her music have remained steadfastly rooted to the land where Bordeaux grapes thrived in the 19th Century. Argentina's Melingo offers as much variety in his music as his country does in its vineyards. On the opposite side of the world, the sunny locales of South Africa and Australia offered the British an alternative wine source during World War I and II. South African guitarist David Hewitt became known for his blends of classical and jazz music with African-inspired rhythms and melodies. Fellow guitarist Aaron Hopper collaborates with vocalist Kacey Patrick to form the group Stringmansassy for Australia's contribution to the wine list. California's Alison Brown and Greece's Vicky Moscholiou round out this robust collection of songs.
A portion of Putumayo's proceeds from the sale of Music from the Wine Lands will be donated to Slow Food in support of their Terra Madre World Meeting. Terra Madre provides a forum for those who seek to grow, raise, catch, create, distribute and promote food in ways that respect the environment, defend human dignity and protect the health of consumers.
Customer Reviews:
OK, but a little boring - Relaxed Dinner Music.......2007-02-08
I like most of the Putumayo CD's, but this one is a little sleepy. It's great to listen to before bed, or maybe while reading. Maybe even good music to compliment a quiet dinner (with wine of course). But, if you're looking for something up beat then one of their latin dance CD's are a better choice.
Vintage Putumayo.......2006-09-22
Living in the Wine Country,I looked forward to the release of this CD.After all, vineyards and wineries are part of my daily life.I wondered if this album would be a dud like "Music from the Coffee Lands" (a decaffeinated compilation if there ever was one)or a hit like "Music from the Tea Lands"(Putumayo's first Asian compilation, and one of its best)This CD proved to not be a disappointment.
Pauline Croze sings the breezy nouvelle chanson "Tita" (which also happens to be the heroine's name in the classic "Like Water for Chocolate");she gives smooth jazz to French music.Vinicio Capossela sings a melancholy song about the world's end.Amparanoia's "Puerto Claridad" is Spanish-meets-Cuban music.Jorge Fernando praises the Portuguese fado of his homeland.Alison Brown makes jazzy banjo music.Ana Laan's "Para el dolor" is lilting Spanish music. The late, husky voiced Vicky Moscholiou sings an imploring, bittersweet rembetiko in which she compares herself to coffee.Mariana Montalvo blends the chanson of her French home with the traditional Chilean instruments of her heritage.2raumwohnung plays smooth German jazz--not exactly a contradiction in terms. The late David Hewitt's "Streetbeat" is glorious African guitar music. The closing song,"Headless" from Australia's Stringmansassy, combines great acoustic guitar music with an odd song&odder vocalizations.
This album is a perfect companion to a glass of wine;it's also a great European compilation (though it has contributions from Australia, the US,South Africa,Chile&Argentina)and great for those who enjoy acoustic music. It's as relaxing as a good glass of wine.

Someone finally did it right!.......2007-08-04
Someone finally managed to figure out what ancient music would have sounded like. Up until now, the majority of the attempts at reconstructing ancient music have simply been either A. BAD or B. AFFECTED. (In particular, there were some really lousy "reconstructions" done by a group in Spain.) As a student of classical Chinese music, and a linguist, I've always had an interest in what ancient Western and Middle Eastern music would have sounded like and had something to compare "reconstructions" to since classical Chinese music IS ancient music, dating from the Bronze age. (The Chinese were the one group of ancient civilizations that kept their music intact.) The Chinese scale is remarkably similar to the ancient Greek scale (Chinese scale lacks the "fa" note deliberately since Confucians thought this note drove men insane...and interestingly enough this note is necessary to write modern military music, like Sousa marches.) I've played the 21-string Guzheng for many years now and been amazed how ancient it sounds. This gives me a comparison to listen to reconstructions of Western and Middle Eastern ancient music. Up until this album, everybody else was playing the songs too slow without any emotion and trying to make their reconstructions sound like modern symphony music. Ancient music was first and foremost folk music. Even the religious music was folk music which had been codified over the years. True, in both China and Greece and Rome there were a few "symphonies" and "high-brow" compositions, but NONE of those survied in the west (and none is popular in China) since what survives is what common people (not musicologists) like. These guys nailed it. This album is definitely worth buying. (Ignore the negative comments by another reviewer which were dumb anyway.)
excellent recreation of ancient music.......2006-04-25
this cd was all i hoped for. It is beautiful and almost seems to sweep the listener away it is so vividly done. It is steady as an ocean tide the tempos dont change drastically as in modern music but has a peaceful almost philosophical cadence to it. I highly reccomend these recordings.
Simply the Best Re-Creation of Antique Music.......2006-01-25
This is the album by Ensemble De Organographia (Gayle Stuwe Neuman and Phlip Neuman). Probably you had heard thier CDs "Music of the Ancient Greeks" and "Carnevale! Festive Music of 16th century Italy".
Disc consists of 3 sets of Antique World music. Ancient Greek Music newly founded at Oxyrhinchus in Egypt (world premiere recording); music from ancient city Ugarit (XIII century B.C.) - Sumero-Babylonian music (including oldest notated music in the history of humankind); music of the Egyptians reconstructed after descriptions by Plutarch and Apuleius.
Ensemble De Organographia re-creates this music with such love and unerstanding of the ancient cultures, that you nearly feel the breezes of the Mediterranean sea and see the landscapes of its shores. They perform it as a music of still living folk tradition.
Of course you wouldn`t find here ancient analog of the 5th Beethoven`s symphony:)
The value of this music is that you could understand internal world and spirituality of the ancient people. It`s a miracle...
I had heard different "restorations" of the Music of the Ancient World - and this work by Ensemble De Organographia is simply the best!!! A must for the lover of the Antique culture.
And it`s hard for me to understand why works by Synaulia and Atrium Musicae De Madrid are so popular.
You could find CDs by Ensemble De Organographia on website by North Pacific Music. There you would find sound samples.
My real rate of this CD - 10 stars!!!!
You could also try CD "Music in the Age of the Pyramids" by Rafael Perez Arroyo (released in Europe by NAR). He uses coptic music as a model for reconsruction of the music of the Ancient Egypt.
Summer.......2001-02-12
I would love to listen a real-audio on the web to really say something about this CD, I'm sorry

Because it focuses on some of the country's most commercially successful artists of the last two decades, this smoother-than-usual Putumayo sampler of contemporary Greek music will disappoint listeners in search of the kind of joyous party ambiance you may find in a touristy Athens taverna. The mellifluous strains of the traditional bouzouki are a constant presence, but the twelve songs here boast the sophisticated arrangements and lilting melodies of European pop at its cosmopolitan best. A somber ballad with touches of accordion, veteran singer/songwriter George Dalaras' "Sou Axize Mia Kaliteri Agalia" dazzles you with an opening line of exquisite irony ("I don't care/Who you're listening to this song with tonight") while the raspy vocals of Glykeria turn "Ta Ziliarika Sou Matia" into a visceral anthem of romantic obsession. Songs by lesser known artists such as Kostas Makedonas and Theodosia Stiga are equally compelling. A few serious omissions: the endearingly anarchic Dionisis Savopoulos, the Middle-East-meets-techno shenanigans of Ana Vissi and the delicate ballads of Arleta--the Greek equivalent of Joni Mitchell. --Ernesto Lechner

Putamayo Presents Greece: A Musical Odyssey.......2007-01-06
Very good CD with good music and original old songs. Verry happy with this C/D
They gave us the word 'odyssey'.......2006-12-30
Putumayo's excellent "Athens to Andalucia" whet my appetite for Greek music with its three songs from Glykeria,George Dalaras&Anemos. It was a brief, tantalizing taste, and I waited patiently for Putumayo to release a Greek compilation.Luckily,it did.
Greece is the cradle of Western civilization, with Plato,Aristotle,Aristophanes&Sophocles--and they have great contemporary music."Greece:A Musical Odyssey" is an enjoyable journey through contemporary Greek folk/pop music. It's perfect for relaxing with baklava, ouzo&dolmas.
Highlights-
1)Eleni-Not everybody has read Homer's "Iliad." Considering the state of education, most teenagers haven't read this classic.Kostas Mantzios sings a beautiful song about Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world who caused the Trojan War.He breathes new life into an ancient legend.
2)Pino Pino-A joyful little song comparing love with wine.
3)Sou Axize Mia Kaliteri Agalia-With a reggae beat&an accordion,George Dalaras sings an ironic love song.
4)Ragizi Apopse-A lilting, folksy song about heartbreak. It's one of Children of the Revolution's more traditional song.
5)An m'agapas, tha s'agapo-Very melancholy and beautiful.Pantelis Thalassinos has long hair like Yanni, but makes better music.
6)Ela Mia Nichta-A frothy, spritely song though it is about loneliness.
7)Ah,feggaraki mou-A celebrity duet,but a lovely one.
"Greece" is one of Putumayo's best European compilations (along with "Music from the Wine Lands"&"Euro Lounge")If you want to try different European music, give this album a spin!
Excellent collection with some unique and great songs from Greece.......2006-12-19
Although I'm from Greece, i usually don't listen to Greek music. I gave this compilation a shot because the Putumayo series are usually far above the average and tend to be excellent :) . I wasn't disappointed! This CD contains some really great songs, which have never been in the same album before. It's not about music to dance, it's about music to listen and relax or sing along. A bit of ethnic, a bit of world and a bit of Greek of course :) All ethnic music fans should listen to this...
Ok, not all of the songs are that good but as a compilation it's surely worth buying and listening. Some of the best songs are: "Eleni", "Pino Pino", "Ragizi Apopse" and "To Parelthon Thimithika" .
Fantastic! .......2006-11-04
My husband is a lover of all things Greek. He vacationed there every year for at least 10 years and we spent three weeks once traveling through Greece. This CD makes us feel like we're back in a Taverna enjoying the sights and sounds of Greece. We love it and even the kids enjoy listening to it.
My Greek Students LOVE IT! (So do I.) Polee' Kala'.......2006-03-10
I'm teaching Greek at an elementary school, and play this disc for the students while they take notes, etc. We all love it! Back at home, my own kids spin this disc nearly every day. Very relaxing, uplifting and romantic. Putamayo does a great job with these compilations. Efharistoh!

Eh, It's Okay.......2007-04-24
For those that purchase soundtrack collages to have a variety of songs and themes, then this is good for you. Unfortunately, these tracks didn't have the signature Erich Kunzel version of the songs as he had on other soundtrack mix CDs. It was more like just that, a mix CD of different soundtracks and scores. However, it was a good buy in the fact that the tracks chosen had excellent sound quality and a sense of harmony.
Better than the First Volume.......2005-08-04
There is a great collection of music to be found here. There are many great renditions. The "2001, a Space Odyssey Fanfare" was outstanding. "Book of Days" from "Far and Away" had a very unique approach. I recommend this one deeply, oh yes I do, by far and away!
An Interesting and Gratifying Volume 2.......2005-06-17
Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops' treatment of film scores on this second tribute to Hollywood are somewhat more pleasing than Volume I. The selections are more intriguing and demonstrate a more positive approach to film scores and their value as true musical art forms. There is quite a diverse representation of music here. The incredibly powerful main title to MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (Bronislaw Kaper) juxtaposed with the bittersweet and romantic love theme to SPARTACUS (Alex North) and the intimately tender love theme to FRIENDLY PERSUASION (Dimitri Tiomkin) are masterfully achieved. I have never been that enamored with this CD's 20-bit digital recording but it has grown on me. Still, I highly recommend and enjoy this CD.
Sheila from Savannah, Georgia.......2005-01-15
I love this cd. It is the greatest. Moonglow and Midnight Cowboy are my favorites.
A great album.......2001-01-28
Erich Kunzel, once again comes through with another terrific album of movie music. On this album you will find preludes, themes and main title music from some of Hollywood's most loved movies. Films from as early as 1936's "Modern Times", through to 1992's "Far and Away", are represented here. The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra are as wonderful as ever, and the 20-bit digital sound system makes for unequalled sound quality. A pleasing highlight for me, is the wonderful "Moonglow" which starts off track 5. The jazz trio of piano, bass and drums eventually is joined by the orchestra for the theme from "Picnic". Then we have the beautiful waltz from "Around the world in eighty days". With the wonderful accordion solo, you can imagine being on a merry-go-round. This is truly a beautiful album...a must for lovers of orcestral music.

So-So.......2007-02-07
I enjoyed listening to the CD, but the musical selections weren't interesting enough to inspire repeated play.
Fantastic...includes My Big Fat Greek Wedding Songs.......2003-08-20
This is a great cd. It is actually two cd's in the package. One is instrumental (my favorite) and the other has words. The instrumental one has two songs in it that are from the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding (and on the soundtrack). The music is fantastic, upbeat and traditional. Definitely makes you want to dance. The price is also great. Please try it....you will be very, very satisfied!
Fantastic...has songs from My Big Fat Greek Wedding in it.......2003-08-18
This is a great collection of traditional Greek music. It also has two songs in it from the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. One CD is only instrumental (my favorite), the other has words. I can only say that I was pleasantly surprised and I have been listening to it non-stop. If you want upbeat, traditional Greek music, definitely buy it. It is well worth it and the price can't be beat!

Magic of The Greek Bouzouki: Near the Sea........2007-01-06
I thought that they would have been some singing, in the Cd but it's only Music.
beautiful.......2005-11-30
Near the Sea by Michael Terzis is so beautiful. I am an Asian never had a background nor heared of Greek bouzouki before but the moment I heared it I fell in love with it. Beautiful.
Nice, but Disappointing.......2003-03-12
This CD has contemporary and unexpected music, but some of the songs sound a bit like repeats. It's pleasant and somewhat refreshing, but it's not outstanding. It's nice music, but not all that special.
The music is pretty, and Terzis is talented, but it didn't "sparkle" for me. I do recommend this CD, and I certainly won't get rid of my copy, but if you can find a used copy, save yourself a few dollars.

George Dalaras- The Very Best.......2007-04-01
The title says it all!!!!! It is my favorite cd from George Dalaras!!! Many good tracks on this... Great live performances too!! You will not be sorry or disappointed in this cd!!!!
Wonderful Sampling of Dalaras Style.......2006-04-03
Fantastic! Soulful! Passionate!
No other word necessary, to decscribe this CD.
"The Very Best of" ... really is!.......2001-05-23
This is one CD I will never get tired of hearing. George Dalaras has a golden voice, a smooth style of singing Greek, the songs are poetic (all translated) and very emotionally appealing. The previous reviewer must have been a guy - women will love this CD! George Dalaras expresses true feelings with sincere passion. From begining to the end - it is great! There is no in between! Another "Best of" but perhaps not an essential Dalaras album.......2000-08-07
Every couple of years, Minos Records, which owns all rights to Dalaras songs, comes out with a "Best Of" compilation of George Dalaras. They can get away with this for 2 reasons. Dalaras does A LOT of recording and collaborative work with other artists, both domestic and foreign, and two, Dalaras' discography has grown so enormous that there are thousands of ways to re-package older titles. Unfortunately, save for four or five songs, this ablum is not essential to own. The recent album "A Portrait" does a much better job of showcasing Dalaras's wide musical aptitude and stunning voice, while mixing both live and studio offerings. This is not to say that this is not a good album, it is. Furthermore, the frist 3 tracks, for example, come off a very recent album and collaboration with Serbian composer Goran Bergovic ("Thessaloniki-Yannena..."). However, too many of the other tracks are somewhat plodding ballads that serve better to create moods rather than the more intense emotional experiences that he is so famous for. So if you haven't bought Dalaras ablums recently, go ahead with this one, but my advice is to go with "A Portrait" also available here at Amazon.

Even 1 star is too good for this disc.......2006-02-19
I bought this CD hoping for something that came a little closer to Greek music than this garbage. Since when did rural Greek musicians trade their Bazoukis, violins, and other 'real' instruments for a synthesizer? DO NOT BUY THIS CD IF YOU LIKE MUSIC. IF YOU HATE MUSIC AND LIKE HEADACHES THEN THIS IS THE ALBUM FOR YOU!
Authentic.......2005-03-14
The music on this album sounds really authentic. It has an excellent Greek feel to it that doesn't sound overly produced or influenced in a "pop"-ish way. Recommended.
Authentic "pikilia".......2000-07-30
This CD is a great sampling of authentic greek folk songs from all regions of greece: mountain to island!

Great Greek music........2005-08-23
The music in this album is modern in style, but it also has that special, unique flavor of traditional Greek music. It does not mean that one will listen to early folk-like pieces, but rather that one will immediately know they are greek.
Haris Alexiou has a very lovely and distinctive voice, and she sings with warmth and passion. The songs are beautiful and one feels swept right away to the distant Greece, to the sun, the sea, and the smiles of dancing people. Opa!
Listening to this album made me wish that I had ordered some of her other discs. Unfortunately, there were no music samples of those other CDs.
The jewel in the field of music.......2005-08-16
Even though "Haroula" sings only in Greek (that I know of), she is a very memorable, and oft played part of my CD collection. What a beautiful spirit.
I first heard her music while on the island of Rhodes in 1993, and I have been searching for the owner of that voice for all these years. Now that I have found it again, I get to enjoy her beautiful, wonderful voice (closely placed with that of Mariella Nava from Italy), and beautiful songs, as well as remember how to read Greek, and learn some new vocabulary as I explore the lyrics ! (I'm not afraid to explore new worlds. I've been wanting to learn Greek for quite awhile; perfect avenue!)
I will be picking up some of her other music as I can. Xaris Alexiou is now a fixture in my collection, and a powerful musical influence.

Haroula number 1.......2003-11-25
Greece's gem off course...Haris Alexiou is a living phenomenon having been Greece's leading artist in the past 3 decades...her voice is deep, throaty and extremely powerful...this album represents the pinnacle of her career and is one everybody should have in their cd collection...do not hesitate to buy! Her earlier work in the 70's and 80's is also awesome..the ballad "Ola Se Thimizoun" from the album "Ta Tragoudia Tis Haroulas" (1979) is one of the best greek ballads ever written...she has the best repertoire of songs from all the greek artists...she is an icon in Greece and will only solidify her position there in the next decade...
ANCIENT AND MODERN -- THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.......2001-06-12
Haris Alexiou's voice is a marvel -- its power can pick you up and elevate you to breathtaking heights, then gently cradling you, bring you back to earth. Her range of emotion is impressive, as are the compositions and arrangements on this disc. 'DI EFCHON' translates as 'With blessings', and this talented Greek singer-songwriter is definitely adept at delivering blessings.
The selections included here are firmly rooted in the Greek rebitika tradition -- songs of and for the people -- but the usual instruments are augmented by modern ones (electric guitars, keyboards, drums and bass), to great effect, without losing the unmistakable feel of Greek music. The musicianship and recording is first-rate throughout. There is a definite dramatic feel to many of these songs -- I am reminded here and there of the scope and intent of Kate Bush's work, if not the sound. I can easily picture video or film images to go with these songs -- something Kate pioneered (and excelled at) for female singer-songwriters.
There are many wonderful artists working in Greek music -- it's a vital, living part of their culture. Haris Alexiou's work is a great place to begin your tour.
I say this is the one to buy..Enjoy.......2000-10-06
Ever since I was introduced to Haris Alexiou, through my quest to know more about my past and heritage as a Greek descended...I fell in love with her music...If u are a romantic person and loves the sprit of music and nothing superficial,, this is the type of music u should attend to...it will left your spirit high..
I love her songs and wonder about in her deep and warm voice,,
If u want a solid and sound advise whether or not to buy the CD ..I say this is the one to buy,,,Look up George Dalaras too
