Escuchar Inti Ilimani desde tan lejos ha sido siempre una experiencia spectacular - pero como un miembro de la generacion que esta acustumbrada a su obra anterior, toma un poco esfuerzo gustarlo - de todas maneras - siempre recomendado!

(Originally posted Jun 10, 2003 as an anonymous review. Re-posted April 11, 2006) Este el primer a'lbum de Inti-Illimani sin Horacio Salinas, director musical del grupo desde sus inicios. Tan grande pe'rdida habi'a de notarse necesariamente aunque en verdad se nota menos de lo que uno podi'a imaginar en principio. Como consecuencia de dicha ausencia, el a'lbum carece del sentido arti'stico unitario que siempre domino' los trabajos de Inti-Illimani. Lugares comunes toca muchos temas pero no parece terminar de asentarse en ninguno. Pero aunque eso le resta fuerza, el sentimiento y sensibilidad que siempre han caracterizado a Inti-Illimani permanece intacto. Este trabajo es, en fin, un hacer camino, titubeante a veces, confiado otras pero que merece ser escuchado. Y si bien no esta' ya Salinas, el ta'ndem Merin'o-Cantillana asegura un nivel de creatividad musical que no puede sino mejorar con el tiempo. Un u'ltimo apunte. Aunque al oirlo por primera vez pensara que poner a Efre'n Vieira a cantar "Sobre tu playa" era una peque?a frivolite', ahora me doy cuenta de que el inconfundible sonido cariben'o de su voz le confiere una profundidad al tema que hubiera sido difi'cil de alcanzar con otra voz. Y es que este a'lbum es de esos que cuanto m?s lo escuchas, ma's te termina gustando. Y cada vez que lo escuchas siempre terminas descubriendo algu'n matiz nuevo.

Inti-Illimani doing what they do best..........2003-05-30

A typically diverse, albeit sugary, offering by this Andean-gone-world-pop ensemble. Includes traces of flamenco, gypsy swing, New Age music and soft jazz, with both instrumental and vocal tunes. Fans won't be disappointed, though for the casual listener, some of this may be a little off the radar.

Un nuevo comienzo de..........2003-04-23

Desde que regresaron a Chile, el Inti Illimani ha sostenido una carrera artística internacional, donde no ha dejado de innovar en su sonido dificil de etiquetar. Pero ya en este nuevo siglo, el abandono de Horacio Salinas, director por décadas del grupo, ha marcado un nuevo inicio, nuevos integrantes, nuevas voces (que la verdad el grupo actual no tiene buenas voces), y así se expresa en este disco. Aparecen nuevos compositores, aunque esperaba una mayor participación de Jorge Coulon, o Horacio Duran, los 2 unicos veteranos que quedan. Meriño, Cantillana y todos los nuevos han retrocedido creativamente al Inti a los tiempos del disco "La culebra" (1978-9), donde se inició realmente el sonido Inti. La nueva producción implica riesgo y aventura. Así parecen todas las nuevas canciones, algunas simples, otras simplonas, otras complejas, iniciadoras de... la verdad que no sé. Habrá que esperar próximas grabaciones. En lo personal se extraña a Salinas [(ya no tiene voz)canciones con comienzo y final], y creo que hay que darle oportunidad de escucharlos.
