    Customer Reviews:

    3 out of 5 stars Gainsbourg's second reggae album.......2002-03-18

Mauvaises nouvelles des etoiles may be Gainsbourg's least good album but this doesn't mean it's a bad album, Gainsbourg didn't make bad albums. It's just a bit dissappointing after the sunny reggae masterpiece Aux armes et caetera. There aren't really unforgettable songs. Maybe Gainsbourg lacked new ideas. Maybe he shouldn't have made another whole reggae album. The band is excellent, mostly the same as in Aux armes et caetera: Sly&Robbie, some people from the Wailers etc. The best known thing from this album is probably the farting song "Evguenie Sokolov". It's not a good song or a good joke but it's a lot of fun anyway.

          5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2004-05-07

What do I see? 3 stars only by the previous reviewer??? I beg to disagree, this is one truly classic Gainsbourg album. "Ecce Homo" gives birth to Serge's alter ego: Gainsbarre. "Overseas Telegram" is addressed to Jeanne Birkin and f#&* me this is a great love song (the album was recorded after their break-up if I'm not wrong- that explains the overall tonality of the album: somber, melancolic). And the list goes on... If you liked "aux armes et caetera", you cannot afford to pass on this one. If you're not familliar with the reggae-gainsbarre, get ready for something huge. I love everything Gainsbourg put out (yeah, even the late stuff) and this one's my favorite along Melody Nelson. Reggae at its best.
