About the Artist
Ricardo Pena is a well known musician in the Denver/Boulder area. His band Milestone is regarded by many as the area's top Latin-Rock band. Ricardo brings a diverse musical background to his music.He grew up in Mexico city listening to the Beatles and a wide variety of Latin American music. Trained as a classical pianist in SUNY at Buffalo, he then began his professional career inmersing himself into the blues. While in Buffalo he performed with top Blues,Rock, Salsa, and country bands. Since his move to Colorado he has also performed a lot of Jazz. Ricardo has been very active as a session player in recent years; singing, playing keyboards, and guitar as well as producing other artists' recordings.

follow up.......2003-12-14

Oops, sorry, forgot about the soloists. John Aler has a brighter tenor sound, not as dark as Robert Tear, but the way he handles the recitative text is very similar. Both he an John Ostendorf are a little heavy on the vibrato for my taste, but their diction is not that much skewed by it. J. Ostendorf is a heavy, rich bass, which is striking when you first hear it against Aler's brighter lyric voice. It almost seems wooly, but he steers it away from any Wagnerian tendancies to create a striking bu handsome compliment. Baird is gorgeous- it's that simple. She is not my favorite, but she comes real close. With a voice reminiscent of Emma Kirkby and expression along the lines of Janet Baker, it's a refreshing treat among all these increasing Helden-Sopranos who think that baroque music gives them an excuse to through all delicacy out the window. Over all, this recording is more of a 4 1/2, and I think the most well balanced one may come across.

The conductor may be no Raymond Leppard, but he's preferable by a great stretch than some of these other "new baroque" recordings out there where everything is a forte marcato allegretto. He maintains the baroque atmosphere, much like Harnoncourt's sound (is this he? I don't know who the conductor is). The chorus also has the baroque sound, but my goodness! Thank God for a chorus with proper vowels and a nice sound! Much better than some Deutsche Grammaphon choruses I've heard. If you like the Monteverdi Choir with Gardiner, you'd probably like this chorus as well (I myself am a choister and soloist specializing in oratorio and other such sacred music).

An occasional Haendel........1999-10-26

The enclosed booklet is too poor. The singers are only good (the best is the soprano). Only good also the conductor . In this way this Haendel's work seems a minor one. Is really so?

I've seen Lee Rude at a couple of gigs now, both in Minneapolis and in Madison, WI. He has an easy, approachable style to his live playing that is wonderfully captured in his recordings. Although the music is often poignant and introspective, his songs never fall into the maudlin or narcisstic. "Here it Comes" is the kind of CD you want to play while traveling sunny country roads, at home on a rainy Friday night, or just about any time you want good music delivered in a fresh and uncluttered way. Great album filled with great tunes.

innovative sound of keen verse and upbeat tempo makes this cd so very enjoyable. lee is a storyteller with exceptional insight put to music that is exciting to listen to and never gets tiresome. this new artist will one day be revered by all.

Big-time Talent From a Little Band.......2000-12-07

After seeing Lee Rude (formerly Charlie Bucket) at several Twin Cities gigs over the past few years, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this disc. Lee and the boys did not disappoint. Covering rock, blues and country gives the tunes a pleasant feel while Lee's lyrics carry you along. It is astounding how many wry and eye-opening observations can be put into one record. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. Discover that there's more out there than N'Syncstreet Boys and Brittany Aguilera.

"Here It Comes" combines well written, interesting lyrics and wonderful music to make a fantastic album that is an absolute winner. Play the album for the music but listen to the lyrics because they will reach out and touch you. Keep writing Lee, this is GREAT stuff.

My husband and I have been sharing this CD but had to buy another copy to end the turf wars. If you like love songs with real world lyrics, if you like Spanish music and a guitar that will make you weep, if you like rock and roll, buy this CD! The lyrics lift my spirits and touch my soul. The music wraps itself around the lyrics and makes listening a sensual, enjoyable experience EVERY time. Not singing along is not an option. Performances by Ricardo and his band approach perfection. You hear something new everytime you listen.

Two thumbs up! I bought the CD because I saw the band live in Boulder and I was very impressed, and I'm not easily impressed. Great music, fun to listen to!
