what a nice surpise i had when i heard this cd..." SI PUDIERA CAMINAR SIN TI" "SAL y ARENA" " REZARÍA " and " NOS SORPRENDIÓ EL AMOR" in fact, the entire album is great...But still i don't feel really good about his tropical tracks like "Así Soy Yo" and "Ni una Lágrima Más". But Bustamante's voice make to listen this dumb song worth it...So go and Buy it. I'm happy to include this one to my collection.

Excellent second album.......2004-05-19

Though I loved Bustamante's first album, this second one is even better. The quality is much higher and you get a greater appreciation for his voice and how much it's grown. I must admit that Producer Emilio Estefan did an excellent job with this CD! It has a very Latin style with a good mix between dance songs and slow songs. Some of the best composers collaborated in this album and David himself even tried his hand at writing with the song "Tu y Yo." David has a lot of talent and if you like Spanish pop then I definitely recommend this CD.

This CD was a pleasant surprise. I liked his first CD, primariliy the special edition with "Perdoname". But David's voice just absolutely soars on this fantastic album. In some ways I miss the absolutely "danceability" of "No Soy Superman" and "El Aire Que Me Das". But he still has some great energetic songs like "Ni Una Lagrima Mas" and "Colgado" and "Bang, Bang". And his ballads are far superior to "Ademas de ti" and "Cuando Hacemos El Amor". My favorite ballads are "Si Pudiera Caminar Sin Ti", "Devuelveme El Aire", "No Se Vivor Sin Ti", and "Nos Sorprendio El Amor".

The more and more I listen to this CD the more it sounds like a cross between the pure pop/dance sound of Bisbal and the pop/rock sound of Sanz. Busta has a versatile voice with a great range. He may not have the rich tones of Bisbal or Fonsi, but he's got voice.

Good gracious, Dr. Afshar is simply astonishing. Her playing is technically impeccible, her interpretations are inspiring, and her selection of repertoire is innovative and enjoyable. True to form, Dr. Afshar has broadened the guitar's capabilities by having new music written for it but also by altering the guitar itself. She's added frets to get quarter tones needed for Turkish and world music! Leave it to Afshar to think of something no one else has thought of and to bring the guitar to a whole new level. The album has new works no one has ever heard before (some written for her) and it also has works by known composers like Brouwer and Morel. Many thanks to Afshar for doing something new and taking the Classical Guitar World by storm.

I bought this CD directly from the artist himself after hearing him perform several of the pieces live. David Burgess is guitarist of extraordinary talent and broad interest. This CD contains beautiful pieces from both South America and Spain that are intricately performed with great depth of emotion. I would recommend this disc for any true music lover.

Wherever you are, David Burgess, don't get exhaust yourself concertizing. Get back in the studio and record another excellent CD! Your talent is much too good to let slip away in the ephemeral wind; crystallize it on CD for everyone to hear long after your fine concerts are memories. great variety, a true virtuoso.......2002-01-29

David Burgess is one of those artists that is a total gem to find. He doesn't have a "big name" or a huge recording contract, but when it comes down to what matters (namely playing well) he can totally deliver the goods. Not only is he technically amazing (I've seen him in concert and he honestly didn't hit a single bad note), he plays with an incredible amount of soul. You can tell both on record and live, that he breathes this music and that it truly means the world to him.

Not only is the album a varied (yet consistent and thematic) but he employs a wide range of techniques to achieve his amazing sound: "Samba do Aviao" is breathtaking in terms of speed and beauty, the rhytmic oddities and brilliant use of percussive effects in "Berimbau" is unreal, "La Catedral" is sublime and almost played at a whisper, yet he breathes new life into familiar favorites like Isaac Albeniz's "Leyenda." This is one of the most creative albums of any genre that I've heard, but it is by far the best guitar album I own (and one of the best I've ever heard.) Another thing that makes this album so great is how rare some of this material is, some of these are complete gems and not at all in the standard repertoire.

And if you have the chance...GO SEE HIM IN CONCERT...its even better than the superb album.

Silver (and Gold) Nuggets.......2001-11-20

I bought this CD at one of Burgess' concerts (in Virginia). He plays with much strength, variety of technique, and tonal quality; moreover, he has excellent command of the rhythm required for this mainly Latin American collection. My favorites are the hypnotically delightful "Seis por Derecho" and "La Misionera," which has a driving and catchy rhythm. I find almost every other piece enjoyable except for the over-recorded "Leyenda" and the somewhat ponderous piece by Rodrigo (whom I'm still a big fan of, nonetheless). It would be nice if those two were replaced by a few of the other interesting Brazilian pieces I heard at the concert. Fortunately, I was told that Burgess might put out more Brazilian recordings later in 2002. I'm very much looking forward to hearing them.

Wow! This album is fantastic!
Debut album from the bricklayer that got his life changed thanks to a TV contest, and from his tiny village on the north coast of Spain conquered the country!
If this record had a proper promotion here I am sure it would be a big success.
Basically, this is pop/latin music. Highlights the 1st track "El aire que me das" (The Air you Give me), the 3rd "No soy un Superman" (I am not a Superman) and 5th "Cantabria" (Cantabria is the name of the region where Bustamante was born). But all the tracks are good.

I recommend this one especially if you know/are learning some Spanish.

Great debut album.......2003-01-27

David Bustamante's first solo project is definitely one of the better post-Operacion Triunfo CDs and includes two beautifully produced booklets, escaping the rush-it-to-the-stores-now-before-they-forget-who-he-is production that other talented singers like fellow winners David Bisbal and Rosa received. No, there's nothing incredibly deep on the album and perhaps a few of the songs were a bit out of Bustamante's range, but overall it's a lot of fun and well worth the money to buy it.

A bright new young Spanish pop star.......2002-09-01

David Bustamante was the runner-up in Spain's "Operacion Triunfo" (their answer to Pop Idol/American Idol) and this is his debut CD. Don't expect anything bold or different, just some catchy Latin-flavoured pop (El Aire Que Me Das, No Soy Un Superman, Cantabria and Por Un Beso de tu Boca) and some rather nice ballads like "La Magia del Corazon" and "Duda de Amor". His duet with a fellow contestant on "Dos Hombres y Un Destino" is also a highlight. Yes it's pop, but good quality pop that stands up to repeated listening.

Excellent, brilliant, very good, very musical, very original.......2003-09-28

I am so disappointed that these CD's by Kurt Schneeweiss seem to get such poor reception. Reading some of the other reviews I just had to put in my own word.

I play classical guitar myself, I know the music on this recording well, I have plenty of other recordings of this material. But none match up to Schneeweiss's interpretation. He makes these pieces sound like music, instead of like historical bored-to-death recitals.

This is true for all of Schneeweiss's recordings, the whole 7 CD anthology set, of which this CD is just nr. 1, as well as his 10 CD rewrite of Weiss sonatas.

Mostly I think that all the negative criticism is due to the severe lack of real musical experience that exists in classical music circles in general (there are always exceptions). For example, a reviewer of a Steve Hackett concert would never complain about how Steve Hackett changed a few notes in a Vivaldi composition. But if Schneeweiss adds an intro to a Bach piece that's a no-go, how dare he!

Well, I would rather listen to intense and inspired music that violates the letter of Bach or Sor, than listen to dead and uninteresting (but oh so perfect) renditions like the ones by Willams or Bream.

The people who cannot appreciate Schneeweiss must lack in musical perception, probably induced by real classical education.

So to conclude about this CD: buy it, it contains some of the best recordings of classical guitar music that have ever been made, bar none.

LOOK ELSEWHERE.......1999-12-23

All of his collection are wonderful examples of how NOT to play these pieces! If you want to hear how they should be played, check out David Russell, Manuel Barrueco or (usually) Julian Bream or Andres Segovia performances.

Very, very bad CD.......1999-10-19

Kurt Schneeweiss is very strange guitarist. I bought his whole collection (7CDs) "Anthology of Classical Guitar", because the repertoire was very rich, when I saw the cover. I think that he has very good technique but NO FEELING. I also hate his altering most of the pieces. You must listen to it and then you will know what I mean. I think that the worst pieces in his presentation are (in the whole collection): Etude No. 17 by F.Sor, Asturias by I.Albeniz, many of his transcriptions from S.L.Weiss and many others. On the other hand, there are also few quite good pieces: Granada by I.Albeniz, Maxixa by A.Barrios. His collection is really very cheap, but if I can advice you - rather buy some more expensive, but also more quality.

Mompou continues to inspire me.......2000-07-03

For fans of Federico Mompou's work, this CD is more of the same - beautiful and dreamlike harmony, simple yet profound melody, focus on piano sonority, and a palette that include references to jazz, Spanish folk music and French Impressionism. This CD is a record of wonderfully performed songs, and the vocal performance is very dynamic and nuanced. Stylistically most of the pieces are from Mompou's more modern period, resembling "Musica Callada" more than "Songs and Dances", yet the songs have a sound and appeal that gets me every time.

The sound of the CD is interesting - the piano was recorded rather distantly, which enhances the mystery and dreamlike quality of Mompou's pianistic focus - while the singer is quite present. There are some very jazz-like harmonies, and the songs are mostly short and written with a broad range of expression . Tempos and moods tend toward slow and pensive, but there are some bright contrasts as well.

I highly recommend this CD to all fans of Mompou, and to those unfamiliar with this incredibly individual Spanish composer from the early 20th century.
