This tape was sent to me by a good friend and I did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. We play it in our house every day and my son never tires of it. The songs are lovely, melodic and child & adult friendly. Hap Palmer has a beautiful & gentle voice. My husband and I find ourselves humming these tunes as we go about our day. The songs are about real activities that kids do and they can relate to them. Get this CD/Tape. You will not be disappointed.

I recommend this CD for anyone with young children. Both of my kids love it (they are 5 and 2). In fact, my 2 year old screams from the back seat of the car, "Mommy, dan-dan on!" (Dan-dan, meaning this particular music which she also enjoys dancing too.) I first heard the music at their former babysitters house and knew I had to get it.

I cannot tell you how many times I have arrived at work still singing these songs. I enjoy it as much as the kids do. Cute lyrics and melodies about all the things that are important in a kids life. My 2 year old sings along with the rest of us. "My Mommy Comes Back" has also helped her adjust to a new day care. Don't hesitate, buy it!

Both my 1 1/2 and 4 year olds love this tape! "I can put my clothes on by myself" is an empowering favorite. When my 4 year old dresses herself, she still sings this song. "Baby's First" makes everyone laugh. The funny sounds have my 1 1/2 year old giggling with his sister in the back seat.

I have given numerous copies of the book as a gift to all my friends who are first-time grandmothers to give to their new grandchid and was unaware of the music that now can accompany the book. I love it! Such wonderful positive messages and great sing along - not only for children, but for adults too. Awesome but reject the shamanism.......2003-10-16

I love Peter Kater and most of his music without occult or shaman titles in them, because the truth is, it is part of a cult thinking and spiritual darkness. I studied it for years as I did other cults and I know people firsthand who were involved with the illuminated cult and "ism. Otherwise he has an excellent talent and beautiful spirit in music and melodic creation on the piano and you cannot deny that he has a God-given gift, if and when he ever acknowledges that is truly where it comes from.

Tasteful, refined, late-career effort.......2002-11-26

Milt's vibes are as tasteful as ever, playing plenty of his trademark fast bop runs that gently nudge yet never strain the boundaries of each tune. John Clayton plays creative bass lines that improvise melodically along with him on some of the tunes. A lot of sweet ballads, most with lush string arrangements that are complementary, but occasionally distracting. A couple of faster tunes vary the pace. Very pleasant, though lacking enough edge for some listeners.

Wonderful variety of textures alternating on different tracks, ranging from just vibes & bass, to vibes/piano/bass/drums, to several tracks (including "This Masquerade", which is the song that I heard on the radio that turned me on to this artist/album) using a most lucscious string section -- which I don't often hear in instrumental jazz these days but that was common (especially behind vocalists like Sinatra) in pop in the 50s/60s.

A Powerful Tool for Communion With Kuan Yin.......2005-08-31

The chant on this CD has been known to create instant healing through this goddess of love and compassion. Lisa's voice is angelic, as usual, and the chant is soothing, meditative and easy to learn. The CD can be used as a meditation tool and since there are several different tracks, you can choose the length of your meditation. I do an incredible amount of driving, and this CD is also suitable for listening in the car. It's very balancing and won't zone you out so much that you put yourself at risk. I tend to pull this CD out whenever I'm feeling anxious or depressed and it always leaves me with a feeling of renewed love, trust and faith.

Hard to believe this came out a decade ago and can stand up and beat 99% of the other releases in the same genre.

The best Shai Hulud record.......2007-03-05

Brutal florida metalcore. This is their best release in my humble opinion and features Chad of New Found Glory fame on vocals. Hard to believe, but this came out 10 years ago. Very reminiscent of Strongarm, Bloodlet, and several other Florida bands, but totally has it's own thing going on. Interesting time signatures and beautiful melodic parts mixed in with brutal open E breakdowns. I know we've all heard this formula before but shai hulud did it well and did it a long time ago. Get this record or pose.

Shai Hulud - the most innovative hardcore band ever.......2006-02-24

Shai Hulud is unique, they innovated a sound like no other during the age when hardcore was expanding into a new sound. AT a time when so many bands graced the scene with what many call "East Coast style hardcore" shai hulud completely redirected the path which was on a course for bland assimilation amongst its artist.
This album stood above all the rest. With songs like "For this wake which I have stirred", and "For the World" that brandished unprecedented lyrics and superb musical talent, mixing melodic guitar riffs with unique breakdowns and maintaining a hint of the two-step rhythm that makes up old-school core.
For any hardcore fan who has not heard Hearts once nourished you are missing, perhaps the greatest piece that has ever graced the scene. Shai Hulud has since folded but members have branched off to other projects that bring just as much innovation and creativity as the their former band (with the exception of Chad p**sy Gilbert). If you havn't checked out some of thier new projects check out "Zombie Apocalypse" and "The Risk Taken" and brace yourself for "The warmth of red blood".

Still One Of The Most Influential Hardcore Records Ever.......2005-12-05

To put it simply, I will say that when Shai Hulud were at the top of their game (1997 with this release) there are very, very few hardcore bands that can even get on the same level as they were. Aside from Poison The Well's "Opposite Of December" and Skycamefalling's "10.21", I still consider this to be one of the most important hardcore records to be released in the late 90's. The funny thing is modern day hardcore and metalcore bands for years now have been taking from what Shai Hulud pioneered on this record, particularly the emotionally introspective lyrics, and the heavy, anger-fueled music. Make no mistake this is not an "emocore" record in the least, or what you would initially think it to be like. When people refer to Shai Hulud as emotional hardcore, they are referring to their lyrics and their passion for their music. What is found on "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion" is a collection of 9 of the most intense and amazing pieces of music ever created in any genre. Shai Hulud were definitely in a league of their own, and unfortunately not long after this release member changes and long droughts in between recordings (their next record after this didn't surface until 6 years later) would ultimately bring the band down. However "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion" is a seminal record for the hardcore genre, and proves that Hardcore bands can indeed make beautiful music. The album saw the band with their strongest lineup, and their best effort musically, and is ultimately the essential recording from the band.

Most people can't believe upon first listen that the vocalist for this band at the time was Chad Gilbert, now guitar player for the highly revered pop-punk act New Found Glory. However Chad does an amazing job vocally on this cd, and he really knows how to relate the band's messages to the fans. His screams sound full of anguish and despair, and makes the extremely thought provoking messages behind Shai Hulud's songs communicate that much better. Listening to him scream "by defending those I love with my life" on the opening track "Solely Concentrating On The Negative Aspects Of Life" perfectly illustrates this point. If you are looking for a lot of melodic singing and lovely choruses, Shai Hulud is probably not the band for you.

The lyrics on this album are nothing less than amazing. This has always presented a slight problem for the band, because some people tend to think that Shai Hulud are just a bunch of angry guys yelling about how much they hate everything. However the real messages Shai Hulud are trying to communicate through their songs are how there are so many things wrong with the world and mankind, and only by understanding what is wrong with ourselves and our world, can we fix them. Like found on "A Profound Hatred Of Man" where Chad offers "this world will pass away/ and my emotions with it/ why should i strive for acceptance/ and piece of mind?" or on the fan favorite "My Heart Bleeds The Darkest Blood" where Chad simply screams "My heart is cold is stone/ I laugh at the pain". Very few bands in any genre can match up to the intellegiance and sensibility of Shai Hulud's lyrics.

Musically the band is just as amazing as they are lyrically. Matt Fox and Oliver Chapoy had such an outstanding trade off relationship when it came to guitar playing, and songs like "This Wake I Myself Have Stirred" and "Outside The Boundaries Of A Friend" show just that. The guitar playing is so intricate and excellently coordinated, that I often times find myself just saying "Wow" at the things these two pull out of the bag. Dave Sibler (who wrote one of Shai Hulud's most famous quotes in the linear notes of the cd booklet, which read "as a band, we make no claim to any one creed, deep philosophy or religion") and Jason Lederman give the band the perfect backbone, as they can devastate during the breakdowns, or elevate the hyper fast rhythms. With "For The World" and "Beliefs And Obsessions" the band is at the top of their game, and they show they are just as capable of devastating as they are of sounding sensible.

All in all this album is just as amazing today as I'm sure it was back when it was released in 1997. If you are a fan hardcore then you owe it to yourself to listen to "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion". Unfortunately this would be the best offering Shai Hulud has ever given us. Their next album "That Within Blood Ill Tempered" would not arrive until 2003, and by then the only original member that performed on this record that was still in the band was Matt Fox. Despite the fact that Shai Hulud is now relatively inactive and some members are pursuing other projects, there's no denying the influence that "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion" has had on the hardcore music world. Listen to any modern day hardcore or metalcore band, and especially the lyrics, and I guarantee you'll be hearing remnants of Shai Hulud. Shai Hulud truely stood out in their scene when they first appeared, and still continue to influence bands today, almost 9 years after this album was released. Hardcore and Metalcore fans alike owe it to themselves to listen to truly one of the most inspirational and original hardcore bands of their time. To sum it up, I can describe this album in two words: Absolutely Perfect.

Before Chad Gilbert Became A P**sy.......2005-04-13

Good lord, you have a guitarist/singer for a metalcore band, and 5 years later, he's in a sellout pop-punk band. Sweet mother of God, no. Well, before Chad played in NFG, he was in a metalcore band. This just shocks me. The song "A Profound Hatred Of Man" made me believe, "This is the guitarist from NFG screaming into the mic?" This is something that is hard to believe. The song is so great, yet it puzzles me. The lyrics of this song describe how the world is corrupt. Compare this to NFG's "My Friends Over You", which sings about relationships. What is going on here?

Anyways, I'll put the "Chad leaving a good band to join a sellout band" to rest and tell you how good the album is. If you like metalcore, but you want to dig deeper, this is the perfect choice.

Gary's most accomplished album........2003-07-17

Despite featuring such standout tracks like "Tease Me", "Lonely Heart" and the title song, this album did not receive the critical acclaim and recognition it was so worthy of when originally released in 1988. It's nonetheless Gary's most accomplished album and a "Quiet Storm" essential.

excellent, but..........2002-10-12

"Compassion" is one of Gary Taylor's most popular albums, but also one of the hardest to find. Originally a commercial hit when released on Virgin Records in 1988, "Compassion" was discontinued in the early '90s (after the inital enthusiasm waned and Taylor left Virgin) and brought back to print after numerous fan requests by Taylor's own record company, Morning Crew.

Each song from the smart opening title track to the wonderful "My Heart Your Heart" merits a listen, especially the radio hit "Tease Me" (with sublime background vocals from R&B legends The Whispers) which appears twice, once in a remix (with more vocal improvisation) featuring Gerald Albright on saxophone.

I have to give a fair warning to casual listeners. This may not be an album for everyone. It's a little repetitive, with an overabundance of synth-heavy mid-tempo tracks that tend to blend into each other. The nature of Mr. Taylor's production (he's everywhere on these tracks; from vocals to keys) may turn off those interested in a less singular vision of R&B. In additon, the keyboard reliance makes this album sound very dated (circa 1985)in spots. A little more natural instrumentation (which shows up in later Gary Taylor albums) would have turned this from excellent to classic.

I had this on cassette since I was in college. I don't recall who loaned it to me but I love it. My favorite song is "I Won't Stop" I am so glad to see this available on cd and that Gary has contined to put more out. He truly deserves radio airplay. True music collectors will have this in their collection HANDS DOWN.

This was one of my favorite. This album was what made me a Gary Taylor fan! Tease Me, put me in the Mood for Love show the styling of a pure genius at work. Being a musician myself, I know real music from fake! This brother's music comes from the heart. One can become intoxicated from the smooth , quiet storm sounds of Gary Taylor. His uptempo songs are good, but Gary give me the ballards brother. As long as he keeps it real, Gary Taylor always have a true fan in me. You major record companies don't know what you're missing.

I bought this on a cassette tape, and unfortunately when I went to cd's, the cassette somehow got into a box that I was giving away!!! I have been looking for this for some time. This was an incredible cassette!!!! My favorite is "Tease Me, as I heard the Whispers sing this, and found out that Gary Taylor wrote material for them!!!! I have all of Mr. Taylor's music on CD, and Compassion will complete my set!!! He has been a favorite of mine, and I wish that he would get the air play more often!!!!Thank you to Amazon for allowing me to purchase this jewel!!!
