Amazing cd.......2006-11-16

We received this cd as a gift and thought "oh, cute, but really more for the parents than the kid." Boy were we wrong. It is now known in our house (well, car really) as the "magic cd" because anytime our son gets fussy in the car, we hit the button for this cd and, about 90% of the time, instant silence is our reward. He loves it, we don't get sick of listening, and I can't recommend it enough.

Interesting songs from around the world.......2006-10-29

We bought this CD for our baby loving the idea of him falling asleep to international lullabies. It is a nice CD with mostly beautiful songs on it. However, our baby prefers another lullaby CD we have, and those are just Africa lullabies. Far more relaxing. There are a couple songs on this CD that aren't so relaxing and bedtime-oriented. But, for the most part, it is lovely.

I work as a daycare teacher, and I personally love this CD, and ended up buying a copy for myself. Great rhythm, great variety, and if you're good at languages you could learn them to sing yourself.

If you want something something different, try this. Not only is it soothing for our daughter but my wife and I enjoy hearing it as well, which is a good thing when you play music each evening and have a baby monitor on. The songs are beautiful and eclectic. A great, soothing cd for adults, not just children.

I bought this before my son was born- I was in a music store, and the CD just caught my eye, so I thought I'd try it out. After my son was born, we would play the CD for him every night. It was so calming and peaceful- he would (and still does 2 years later) fall asleep to it every time. Even though its in various foreign languages, the chanting and simple music is very soothing. My son loves it!

Absolutely Gorgeous!.......2001-05-05

So few recordings that purport to be relaxing actually are. Most seem to just be "sleepy". Tranquility/Silence follows rain is simply the most well-thought-out CD of this type that I have encountered. It's relaxing, but it's also exhilirating in a serene sort of way. You can tell these are composers, not just musicians fiddling with their latest keyboard patches.

Each song is a journey that gently sweeps the listener off to pastoral soundscapes of tremendous beauty.

Too Much of a Good Thing?.......2003-10-24

I'm fairly familiar with two of the pianists in this collection - Jim Bajor, who is local, and Tom Barabas, to whom I have listened for several years. Until this album I haven't had the opportunity to listen to Stephen Jacob and Christine Brown. They all do their work in the styling of light jazz and easy listening that is often labeled incorrectly as New Age. Sometimes I feel that that phrase is used as a euphemism for anything that is pleasant, rather than its original definition, which had more to do with the meditative nature of the composition. In any case they are all accomplished at their art and worth listening to.

It is fair to report that all four musicians produce work that is melodic, technically interesting, and, yes, pleasant to here. None of the pieces demonstrate what I would call the technical brilliance of someone like Jordan Rudess, who drifts in and out of this genre but has a tendency towards keyboeard pyrotechnics. But neither is any of their work plodding or monotonic. 'Very listenable' may not be the highest compliment one can pay a musician, but it is way ahead of whatever is in third place.

If I have a complaint to make, it is that, despite different recording studios and instruments, the tonalities are so close that the entire album could have been the product of a single person. Barabas is slightly more adept, Bajor slightly more melodic, Jacob more controlled, etc., but there are no glaring contrasts. I'm not sure if this is a fault or not, since the result is certainly more than acceptable. Given all the overloads that life throws at us, I'm not sure complaining about too much goodness is entirely fair.

Outstanding collection of orginal piano work.......1998-10-22

This collection of original piano pieces is simply excellent. This instrumental is melodic, sweet, romantic, soothing and timeless. I find myself leaving this CD in my car day after day without tiring of the melodies. Beautiful!

I heard a sample of this CD on Amazon and liked what I heard. I bought the CD and I must tell you---this artist plays a beautiful piano. I was a student of the piano myself years ago, and he plays with so much feeling. I find it very relaxing and enjoyable. This is not a band elevator lounge album, in fact walk into any fancy department store and your likely to be hearing one of these dime a dozen painists playing next to the escolator! He's kind of like Liberace in his playing. Good elevator music!

One of the BEST Piano CD you'll ever find.......2004-07-13

This has to be one of the best Piano CDs around, and I expected to see a 5 star average rating given. Instead, it is awarded only 4 stars. I suspected it was due to some 'spoilers' who didn't know how to appreciate this type of music.

Imagine sitting in a 5 star hotel lounge, relaxing and listening to the pianist playing such wonderful music on the grand piano. Now, that's what this CD is about. If you like this kind of music, you'll find none finer than Jim Bajor's 'Somewhere in Time'.

My favorite track is "Someone To Watch over Me"....but I truly LOVE the easy and relaxing way Jim Bajor plays every song on this CD. In the hurry-up multi-tasking way we live today - it is so nice to be able to just unwind and calm down by listening to such beautiful music. The CD has such clarity you feel as if you are sitting right there 'in person' watching and listening.

Wow, I can not say enough good things about this cd! Every song is highly enjoyable, great interpretations of jazz classics, and very soothing and relaxing. My favorite song from it is "Since I Fell For You." "Somewhere in Time" is a great track as well. Perfect music for a candlelit dinner or just to mellow out. Anyone who thinks this is elevator music needs to be more open-minded. If you are a fan of beautiful piano music you will thoroughly enjoy this cd.

Excellent dinner music - we use it often. Nina plays well, very sensitively, and somehow the CD makes you feel calmed and centered. As a side note, I also use this CD to quickly induce the occasional restless baby into slumber. It usually works quickly and we enjoy the treatment! I'm ordered some for gifts as we speak. Very good! If you like pop-classics and good guitar.......1999-05-17

I have a number of Steven Pasero recordings. This recording and his Nutcracker Suite recordings are in my opinion his best. If you like good classical guitar you'll enjoy this recording. His later recording labeled "Pasero" in which he tried to branch out, adding voices and additional instrumentation was pretty much odd-ball elevator music. However, I really enjoy and often listen to "Guitar Heartsongs".

The most comprehensive collection of Turlough O'Carolan.......2006-04-09

I love this CD.

I came across it when I entered Turlough O'Carolan, the 16th century Irish harp composer, in Amazon trying to find a collection of music that had many of his best works. This particular album has probably the most traditional Irish harp pieces of any album I have come across which was important for me because I wanted genuine traditional celtic music, not contemporary songs played on the celtic harp. This CD met my expectations in that regard.

Particular favorites are: Blind Mary, Planxty Hewlitt, and Arrane Ghelbee.

My only two complaints are: the synthesizers in the background of the harp music (I like straight harping the best), and the fact that O'Carolan's most famous work, "Carolan's Concerto" is missing. For a fabulous version of that particular piece, check out The Chieftain's album, "A salute to Edward Bunting" that The Chieftains produced along with the Belfast Harp Orchestra. Also, Sugo Records has a nice recording of the piece by harpist Kim Robertson (with only harp, no other instrumentation.)

Regardless of those two minor criticisms, this is a beautiful, soothing album and a great introduction to O'Carolan's best works.

A very nice album.......2004-01-22

This is a lovely, low-key, and inspiring CD that anyone (save hardcore Marilyn Manson fans) who likes any genre would enjoy. My personal favorites are #s 1, 6, and 8, but they are all wonderful.

Brian Beru's March--Where Are You Hiding.......2003-06-06

Am I missing something or is track #6 listed as Brian's Beru's March the exact duplicate of Track #16 I Saw From the Beach? Where's Brian on the CD? Glorious celtic harp nevertheless.

Lyrical, soothing to the soul.......2003-06-03

Any fan of Celtic music must buy this CD. The soothing yet sprightly harp artistry contained here is perfect for relaxation or inspiration--I listen to it while writing fiction, and find it perfect for stimulating my imagination and creativity. The musicianship is excellent; the tone of the harps sweet, and the melodies are alternately rollicking and thoughtful. If you like Celtic music, classical harp, or even classical guitar, this music is a must.

Masterful maidens!.......2002-04-10

This is a beautiful recording; anyone interested in Celtic music will treasure it. Some of the pieces (e.g., Blind Mary, Madam Maxwell, I Saw From the Beach) are absolutely lovely. In fact, I loved all but the last (Silent O'Moyle), which seemed strangely out of place. I would have preferred the recording without the synthesizer background, which I found distracting. I hope to find additional recordings by all four of these young master harpers.

What a fabulous and comfy sound. We spent the afternoon out on the deck at Bernie's Bungalow in the heart of Anchorage enjoying the warmest day of the summer (70 degrees) and lots of friends.

This CD was the foreground music that set the smooth tone for the day. We were all asking each other who these great artists were... Favorite songs and great, full sound. I'm buying it tonite because it will remind me of a great afternoon with favorite friends and favorite sounds!

This is a beautiful album. I love to listen to traditional Japanese music and, of course, classical too, but this is a great way to mix things up. It's soothing and different. All of it is a good combination of different and easy to adjust to. For people who want relaxing music and/or cultural music, this is an excellent choice
