I enjoy listening to the selection of polkas on this cd but I find they are a bit too fast to dance to.

World's Greatest Polkas.......2006-07-25

I bought this asd a gift for my Mom. I remember watching the Lawrence Welk show as a child. We are polish,so the polkas are special to us. This CD has many familiar polkas and is a treasure. My Mom keeps it in her player all the time. It was a perfect gift. There should be more like it.

More good polka music from the masters.......2004-09-24

The irony of this CD is that Lawrence Welk himself only appears on one track: Just Because. That is the only track where there is an accordion duet between Myron and Lawrence with the backing of the Champagne Music Makers, Lawrence playing the accordion "lead". The rest are all drawn from Myron's solo output for the Ranwood label from the 60s and 70s. Very polished performances, they are happy music that can sometimes suffer from a bit of a homogenized production. Still, very good music and excellent accordion work from Floren. Competent performances.......2000-07-21

Like other productions by Lawrence Welk and Myron Floren, this one is professionally performed, but it really doesn't generate a lot of excitement. It could use a little more variation in tempo from track to track. There are no lyrics anywhere, even though most of these songs come with them. This is the first time, for example, that I have heard Just Because without the words. This CD just doesn't have the pizazz of a Frankie Yankovic or a Joey Miskulin or an Eddie Blazonczyk. It's several cuts above elevator music, however.

Worlds Greatest Polkas.......1999-12-04

Say what you want about Welk and Floren, but they can come up with some pretty darn good music. Great songs and great sound!

More decent stuff from the 1970s.......2000-04-16

This CD, along with Volume 1 of the same title, appears to have been recorded around 1971. Some of the tracks appeared on an ABC Paramount vinyl LP at about that time. The recordings were made after Frankie's heydey, and before his "second heyday" (as I like to think of it) from the mid 1980s to his death in 1998. Nevertheless, this is a solid recording with lots of catchy tunes. For some reason tracks 1,2,4,7,10 are not stereo, even though these tunes otherwise have the same "look and feel" as the rest of the CD and were probably recorded around the same time.

OK stuff from the 1970s.......2000-04-16

Some of these tracks, along with some from Volume 2 of the same title, originally appeared on an ABC Paramount vinyl LP in about 1971. For some reason, at this point in his career Frankie temporarily retired from being the lead singer in his own band. Someone else does the vocals on most of these. It's still solid stuff, although two of the tracks, Teenage Polka and Polish Polka, are the same tune with different lyrics (both somewhat embarrassing, by the way). For some reason tracks 1 and 3 are not stereo, even though all the tracks have the same "look and feel" and probably were recorded at the same time.

"Big band" polka music?.......2000-04-17

If you listen on headphones on a system with good bass, the effect here is a bit startling. Technically, there seems to be little stereo effect, as all the instruments seem to come from dead center. But there is plenty of reverb added, and the bass seems to come from everywhere, so the sound is spacious. One might call it a "big band" sound. On speakers, however, the effect is lost; the come-from-everywhere bass now seems tinny. This CD is OK, but there are better.

One of the best.......1999-09-19

For the ultimate in Polka music. A must have for your collection and listening pleasure. The vocals and instrumentals are "toe tapping" and at times very "funny". You will really miss out on the fun if you don't have this CD. This is Polka music at it's best. A $ value you just should't pass up.
