Classic, Odd and Mysterious..........2007-03-31

I first bought this album at Chicago's legendary Wax Trax Records on the Roadrunner label - it was one of my "experiments." I used to go there every two weeks, fists full of fresh cash, and buy several albums I coveted - and over the years, this ended up to be very lucrative as I wound up with things that now sell for a fortune on eBay. After a while, I'd gotten into the habit of buying one item each trip that I was unfamiliar with but for one reason or another fascinated me - either the artwork, the record label's cachet, or a recommendation by the staff, who had gotten to know me very well. This was one of the latter and I've never regretted it. It's a fascinating album, a very early (and rampantly inventive) electronic feast for the ears, sung in three languages - and eccentric as hell! "Ave Apres Mars" is probably my favourite, but you'll be the judge if you ever hear it. Seeing as the album is largely undescribable, I won't attempt to here, but - Highly Recommended!!!

"Sweet & Jazzy".......2001-07-04

This CD is what I'd like to call "Sweet & Jazzy". It's something you'd like to listen to while you wash the dishes, take a shower, eat a meal with "someone special", or even alone. The music has rhythm, it's soft, but still holds on to that "1958" European sound. Like "Keri, it's so very-very"... It's mellow an nice, and something I enjoyed.

Bad Prescription.......2006-09-28

The Doc is known for wacky collaborations, from singing with out of style boys band to rapping with corrupt political figures, well I guess he's been everywhere but in the right place, which would be, at the studio, working on his next solo project.
Liaisons Dangereuses is another half-hearted effort, with a couple of good notes ( "Viens faire un tour dans les cites", "L'Homme qui ne valait pas dix centimes", "Hexagonal" ) drawn into a noize of lazy rhymes and poor productions.
To be fair, this is not a Doc Gyneco's album, this is a compilation from various emcees, without a real cohesiveness to it, too bad, cuz it could have been so much more.
If you're just getting into french hip hop, don't bother, but if you enjoy Doc Gyneco's experimentations, then you just might like it.

So basically, what most hip hop/rap listeners do when they grab some music is to just shove it in the cd player and hope that it provides the ever-conformist genre-addicting styles that they have heard on thier last mainstream rap cd. I myself am a big foreign-rap fan, and if you would like to be, then grab a good foreign rap cd, and look into Doc Gyneco, et al...for god sakes he's done stuff with American Artists if you're that picky. WORD!

Great Rythm!!!.......2001-11-01

French rap music is considered as exotic hip-hop by Americans. However, this cd rocks. It involves unknown and known French artists. And in my opinion, the key song is L'homme Qui ne Valait Pas Dix Centimes. No need to understand French in order to appreciate the content. And that is great!!!

Four years ago, I first heard the C'est Beau la Vie track in my hotel room in Paris while watching french MTV...the video was freaking wicked and I knew I would NOT get the refrain out of my head... Within the hour I was walking into Virgin Records on Champs de Elycee and bought this CD. Later I would learn that "C'est Beau la Vie..." is how I try to live my life!!!
This CD has never ceased to delight! Friends adore it and so on and so on...if you were to ever get to see the video then you've got it all. He is sexy, witty and oh so talented! A Must have CD, along with Makada by Les Nubians! Highly recommend!!!

Great Classic Dance Track!.......1998-10-26

The unique hard techno bass line contained in this song will make it stand the test of time. The song, I feel, ranks right up there with "Numbers" by Kraftwerk. I'm kind of disappointed that the 12" version, that was released on RoadRunner Records in the early 80s, isn't contained on this 4 track CD single. The Original 7" Version and the Official Delkom Live Mix do make up for it. I have recently spoken with someone from RoadRunner and they said "to keep my eyes peeled for a re-release".
