IT IS A GREAT ALBUM THE BLUES ARE WQELL DONE AND PERFORMED. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO ANY BLUES FAN.

Blues Traveler Classics.......2007-01-12

First heard this singer on a re-run of Rosanne Barr's TV show and, of course, the radio; I loved the song...I thoroughly enjoyed the the CD.

He blows and sucks on harmonica........2003-07-21

A solid 17 track remastered collection. Half the songs are from either the debut, or "Four". The remaining tracks come off the other four albums. Of course being a "Best of" disc, this does have the hits "But Anyway", "Run-around", and "Hook". But most of the rest is just as good, if not better. My current favorite is "Canadian Rose", about a girl he met in Burlington Vermont. This also has "Regarding Steven", which was on the live album "Live from the Fall". Not alot of long drawn-out jams on this one, but they sure can do it when they want to, and "John Popper" can play the harmonica better than anyone I've ever heard. Whenever I hear "But Anyway", I still think of them at the end of the movie "Kingpin" dressed like Amish, and rockin' out. If you're looking for your first, or only BT album, this one will go perfectly between your "Black Crowes" and "Phish" cd's.

An Optimistic Thought...........2003-03-27

....would be that others will discover TRAVELOGUE and hear what a great band Blues Traveler is.

TRAVELOGUE has something for everyone. If you're a casual fan or new to the band this is an excellent intoduction to their sound. Almost every hit single and concert staple is here (with the most annoying exception of "Most Precarious" from SRAIGHT ON 'TILL MORNING). The chronological format is always the best for these types of albums, and the digital remastering is incredible! This is why die-hard fans who already own most/all of BT's albums should buy this collection. These versions sound sooo much better than the original CD's. A worthy purchase to hear these songs in a remastered format. Also, an incentive for the die-hards would be to have "Regarding Steven" in it's studio version on disc (previously the b-side to "Runaround" and not included on their commercial breakthrough album FOUR). Aside from that, not much else here for the BT groupy.

Concentrating on the FOUR (5 songs) and BLUES TRAVELER (4 songs) albums the song selection is dead on. They included one song ("Just for Me") from their last studio effort BRIDGE (I assume to cover all their studio albums), but "Most Precarious" would've been a better closing song. Hell, at 79:57 you can't argue with the song selection that much.

Special guest appearances from Joan Osborne, Gregg Allman, Chuck Leavell, and Warren Hayes on some songs is an added bonus.The booklet is real decent as well providing writing credits and which album the songs appears from. You also get the essentials for each album's individual credits including the musicians performing.

I can't say enough about how great TRAVELOGUE is. A solid 5 stars even with the exclusion of "Most Precarious." The improved sound of the early material makes up for this one set-back.

Travelogue finds the incomparable Joni Mitchell sticking to the orchestral format that worked so well on her 2000 album, Both Sides Now, where she took a series of American standards, hitched them up to a 70-piece orchestra, and gave them her own quirky twist. With Travelogue, however, she has applied that technique to her own back catalog. Recorded in London's Air Studios with an orchestra, 20-voice choir, and key players such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, this double CD offers moving reinterpretations of her most significant songs. There is "Woodstock," for instance, now sounding filmic and expansive, and "Hejira," softened by strings. Mitchell avoids schmaltz, however, with a rigorous, jazz-inspired approach. "God Must Be a Boogie Man," for instance, has a sense of Miles Davis's languid cool, while "For the Roses" sounds vibrant and edgy. Fantastic Arrangements.......2007-06-06

When looking at this release on Amazon, the first customer reviewer stated how he missed hearing Joni with her guitar. That misses the point entirely. This release features stunning arrangements combined with wondeful singing from Joni. Listen to "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" and it will knock your socks off.

Heard it all before.......2007-05-12

There is something sadly self-indulgent about this latest series of CDs by Joni, replete with self-portraits, that makes one wonder if she is at the end of her rope. Seems like Turbulent Indigo was the last good album she did, as Both Sides Now began a series of remixes leading up to Travelogue. I wasn't impressed at all with the orchestral arrangements in Both Sides Now, and so I find myself cautious to venture into this dreamy world of Joni Mitchell again. I loved her early forays into jazz like Mingus because she was able to create a warm, cozy atmosphere, focusing the album around a birthday party given for the jazz legend, with his voice intermixed through the wonderful interpretations of his music. Since I've heard virtually all these songs before, including the playfully inventive "God Must be a Boogie Man," based on Mingus not Miles by the way, I think I will take a pass on this boxed set.

A Major Work!.......2007-05-05

I didn't think I liked Joni Mitchel. The odd-ball octave shifts annoyed me as yodeling does. I was looking for some song of hers at the library and found Travelogue instead. It sounded more like Diana Krall. Very pleasing deeper voice without the old stunts. I happend to like the orchestra and the jazz styling.

There is more than 2 hours of mostly-wonderful music. There are only a few tracks that I skip. The sound is fresh and original. The lyrics are thought-provoking. It comes in a nice package containing a lyrics book and a book showing some of her original paintings.

The only problem is that I listen to it over and over and over. Addicted?

An Awesome Surprise..........2006-11-23

...at least to these ears. I have always appreciated Ms. Mitchell over the years and enjoyed seeing her on TV appearances. I've never picked up any of her albums though, so I'm somewhat of a newbie with her material.

I took a chance on this double CD with heavily orchestrated versions of assorted Mitchell material and have been totally bowled over by the grace, beauty and artistry evident on every cut. Joni, her orchestrator and all involved should be proud. There is definately a smart, smoky vibe prevalent and the outcome is truly a marvel.

The 2nd of the 2 CDs is especially KILLER. Every cut a gem. If you've ever wondered what Joni Mitchell is about and like jazzy orchestral albums....start with this one!

Probably their creative peak.......2007-07-18

I'm very torn on the Human League. I love the idea of the band as well as a lot of their old work, but I think they hit a rut sadly early in their career (and rock bottom with "Human").

Travelogue makes more sense to me as an album than the rest of their offerings. It's not the conceptual hodgepodge of Reproduction, and it's not the sleek-but-compromised pop of Dare. It's just foreboding enough to still seem interesting, and pop enough to be enjoyable.

The bonus tracks are an asset to the release and I enjoyed the liners as well.

I wasn't sure what to expect since I knew that the band at this time was not a pop dancing band, and was a more pre-Tarantino kind of style, but I felt reassured when I heard Being Boiled. When I got the album, I was more satisfied than I expected! It was still a rock kind of music you could dance to, but a little more darker with the lyrics and synthesizers; they are still the same Human League I know, just a different style of them, but still deep down, still the Human League they turned out to be. Some of the most favored songs on Travelogue is "Life Kills", "Rock n' Roll/Nightclubbing", and "Gordon's Gin." Whether or not this album was remastered, I would still have loved it! But the great thing is this album is remastered with six extra tracks! Overall, it was a great CD!!!

Not as chilling as Reproduction.......2003-07-22

I've never been a Human League fan but I bought Reproduction and was amazed at it's icy, chilly and perhaps wintry approach. This however is a bit like the thawing process between Reproduction and Dare and as a result it seems a bit patchy. The Black Hit Of Space is a good song and so is their cover of Only After Dark, but Dreams of Leaving really show up Phil Oakey's limitations as a singer. I suppose the same can be said for TBHOS were Oakey sounds a little wooden. Tracks like Marianne and a few others are pretty good but they just don't have the same heart as the songs on Reproduction. Having said that there are moments within some of those songs that are not so great where the song briefly comes alive and then dies off.....which was never the case with Reproduction.....it's a shame though that Ware and Marsh left the band because with that Human League's creative was stolen and soon they became a complete mess ( well OK after Don't You Want Me, Baby? - the classic karaoke hit of the 80s ). Their songs became bland and not much else.

I've made this point out that if Reproduction was like Cronenberg's Shivers, then Travelogue was like Rabid, a poor patchy product that has it's moments but not as satisfying. I could be wrong of course. It's just my opinion that's all

Spooky Masterpiece............2003-03-10

There is something about this album that is strange and unique. It is truly a work of art-- themes of industrialization, automation, and isolation are echoed by machine-like synthesizer sounds of the late 70's. It is haunting yet charming at the same time. Poignant, but with a sense of humor too. This is rare and under appreciated album and probably always will be. The bonus tracks are equally as good, most notably "I don't depend on you" with its surprising disco-era sound. Not for everybody, but definitely can be appreciated by fans of Gary Numan's early work such as "Telekon" and "Dance"

If you are a fan of guitar music, you must own this CD!.......2000-07-07

This album is a perfect mix of songwriting and guitar virtuosity. Chris's technique is something of a marvel as he puts together lightning quick melodies with a precise delicacy and clarity over the top of well thought out bass lines. His interpretations are wonderful and his takes on traditional Irish and blues tunes will definitely leave you impressed. This album has some of the strongest songwriting I've heard in a CD in recent years. If you like guitar music, you definitely need to pick this one up!

Though successful screen adaptations of My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, and West Side Story were yet to come at the time of this 1958 RKO musical, The Girl Most Likely was one of the last gasps of the original Hollywood film musical's golden days. This first-time CD release rescues the film's vibrantly kitschy soundtrack from oblivion, showcasing the studio's belated musical adaptation of its previous Ginger Rogers vehicle, Tom, Dick and Harry and a vibrant slate of songs by Meet Me in St. Louis composers Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane. Nelson Riddle brightens up the proceedings considerably with his romping title track and arrangements that crackle with jazzy big-band flair. As a bonus, the film's originally deleted duet between stars Jane Powell and Cliff Robertson, "I Like the Feeling," has been restored. QUITE A MOST UNUSUAL SOUNDTRACK.......2003-01-22

There are many other soundtracks from Jane Powell flicks we'd like to see released on CD, but it's not likely that's gonna happen soon. Still, we nod to DRG, who continues to do masterful jobs releasing the unexpected (and, frankly, sometimes unwarranted) soundtracks in their "Hollywood Collector Series." "The Girl Most Likely," the bouncy (but, ultimately, forgettable) RKO Jane Powell flick --- a musicalization of the Ginger Rogers vehicle "Tom, Dick and Harry" --- is best remembered for its two Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane politically incorrect tunes ("Crazy Horse" and "All the Colors of the Rainbow") and Kaye Ballard's delightful big-screen turn. (The only ditty written by the team is the title tune, penned by Nelson Riddle, who scored the flick, and lycrist Bob Russell.) This isn't film music at its best, but the curiosity factor is charming, especially on "I Like the Feeling," a song co-star Cliff Robertson was supposed to sing in the film. It was cut from the film, but here, it's back, with Cliff and Janie warbling ... complete with the actual heartbeats of the two lovers. Quite a most unusual day!

Really good African compilation.......2004-02-10

There are so many compilations out there, and this is one of the best. Regardless of how "important" or "representative" the songs chosen here are, they all sound great! A wonderful addition to any world or African music collection, and great for a beginner in African/world music!

A journey south.......2003-04-22

This album is the sixth in a series of introductions to the world's great musical traditions. Each volume is built around a geographical theme and produced by an acknowledged expert in that area.

The African journey commences in Algeria and then heads South, stopping off in Cape Verde, Senegal, Guinea, Mali, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Gabon, Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Madagascar, before terminating in South Africa. The 14 tracks are representative but slightly atypical of their regions; most share a semi-acoustic yet modern and edgy esthetic. While a single CD cannot possibly showcase the music of an entire continent, these examples are a good way to get acquainted - or reacquainted - with Africa's stunning musical diversity. The set culminates in a moving rendition of the South African national hymn "Nkosi Sikilele I'Afrika," as performed by the Imilonji Kantu Choral Society, who sang it at former President Nelson Mandela's inauguration.
