5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2007-08-05

This is a great CD. I just used the music to dance at a show. A real crowd pleaser, and fun to dance to. I agree it brings bellydance into the 21st century, yet it also maintains "real" bellydance rhythms.
I would love to see another of these CD's soon please!

4 out of 5 stars Beats Antique - Great album!.......2007-07-23

This is a great album contemporary feel about it and uses traditional rhythmns and not so traditional to give a really well-rounded album, slow and fast and very listenable and danceable. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars shaking rythym.......2007-06-27

this superstar volume 4 was just what I needed for my class, easy to follow and choreograph. Also purchased volumes 2 and 3. I already owned volume 1. Will keep shopping Amazon.

3 out of 5 stars More techno cr@p.......2007-05-24

I liked tracks 6 & 12. The original long version of Batawanees Beek makes the hair on my arms stand up! This one leaves me cold. I think most of this techno stuff is just too busy for me. Frantic, repetitive, and feels like an aerobic class. You can't interpret the rhythm/melody with that d!mn#d overpowering beat! What happened to the emotion? Isn't that the whole point behind art?

5 out of 5 stars Bellydance Superstars, Vol. 4 .......2007-03-27

I like this cd. It presents a variaty of songs and rythms that makes it not boring...

3 out of 5 stars Tweaked.......2007-03-19

I was somewhat disappointed that a heavy bass beat - not beledy - has been added to many of the songs, so the rock-n-roll/hip hop aspect was a bit much.

3 out of 5 stars belly dance.......2007-03-05

Ididn't like much this CD because the music is well known, a bit too much maybe, and even if it's new recording, there is no surprise at all except for the last drumming .

4 out of 5 stars Bellydance Superstars Moves You.......2007-04-04

Enjoyed this group of belly dance numbers very much. I personally prefer more instrumentals, but, hey, nothing is perfect. The music is energetic and does get you moving. I give it a solid four stars

5 out of 5 stars Bellydance Superstars .......2007-01-15

If you are a dancer you need the Superstars CDs. Good mixed discs, you get a taste of a lot of different artists without looking for 12 discs and you don't need to read Arabic. Pretty fast tracks, warm up with something slower, I like Arabic Lounge set.

5 out of 5 stars Good usable material.......2007-01-12

Excellent contemporary bellydance music, most very usable. The only problem is its popularity.

Egyptian-style and American-Cabaret dancers would probably get the most out of it.

5 out of 5 stars Do you want to dance your feet off??? .......2006-10-18

This is the CD to do just that! Dance, dance and more dance. Exhilirating music from the best of Middle Eastern popular belly dancing music. Very light, very enjoyable, perfect for any party mix. Authentic, yet diversified. Ideal for parties, long drives, getting your housework done in a good mood, and just for the simple pleasure of the lively Arabic beat. Love this CD.

3 out of 5 stars Best of Bellydance from Egypt, Lebanon, Arabia, and Turkey.......2005-07-21

It is good and I like it but I am new to Belly danceing and found the music a bit to fast for me. I would say that this music would be for those more experienced at the art.

4 out of 5 stars Varied & Diverse Although Often with an "Orchestrated' Sound.......2004-04-04

This CD is a good start for listeners unfamiliar with the diversity of unique music and instruments from the Middle East and Arabia. The first six tracks are the most appealing as the music of each country, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, and Arabia is presented. One can develop an appreciation and taste for the 'belly dance' rhythm, unique progression of musical paths, and traditional instruments, that compose this most outstanding and easily recognizable genre of music (and dance). While the music is "contemporary" it is also at times, highly orchestrated. Luckily this occurs mostly in *only* the last 6 tracks. The first 6 selections have an interesting introduction before the primary music is played, it begins with either a dumbek or kanun or tanbur (tambur, lute-like instrument) which teases the listener, knowing full well, it is an 'appetizer' before a sumptious musical feast. Most of the selections include very dramatic and captivating improvisations on *traditional* instruments, such as the ney, the kanun, or the violin. One is *easily* drawn into this sensuous and delightful music by the introduciton which, at times, is markedly different than the main musical melody. There is a musical transition musical to most of the selections that is smooth and very intense . The dumbek or other traditional instrument often defines the "raks araby" (Greek "tsitetelli", i.e. 'belly dance') styled rhythm although there are tracks when it is the lute or kanun which defines the rhythm.

The most outstanding piece on the CD is track #1, "Aziza" (Arabia) played by Hosssam Ramzy and his orchestra. It is exotic and has jazz-like improvisations on the ney, violin, and kanun which capture the sounds, sights, and smells of the souk and casbah. You *know* you have arrived into another world of music ... Track #2 "Dert Ortagim Benim", is Turkish and played by Ensemble Huseyn Turkmenler. It begins with a dumbek intro that is soon accompanied by traditional instruments, the ney, lute, kanun, and violin. Together these instruments create a dynamic melody and rhythm that captivates the listener. Eventually each instrument, ney, kanun, lute, and violin is provided a solo opportunity to shine, to stand out, to be heard when it is played by a virtuoso, who demonstrates jazz-like improvisaitons and explores the full depth and breadth of musical possibilies on a solo instrument. #4 "Ghannili Sheway Sheway" by Hossam Ramzy and orchestra create a sensational sound, played on the ney, kanun, violin, lute, and keyboards ... this one creates labyrinthine musical pathways with unusual twists, turns, and curves. Hossam Ramzy is a master musician, world reknown for his creativity and stylizations of the Middle Eastern sound. #5 is translated as "Happiness" ("Saiedeh"). The music has Arabic influences, played on a violin or cello-like instrument, there are occasionally keyboards. The end is especially explosive with "ullalations", high-pitched vocalizations often done by women with the tongue against the pallate but can done by men also, during times of intense joy, happiness and unexpected pleasure. #6 sounds Egyptian due to the frequent dumbek rhythm, although somewhat orchestrated, they music retains the original flavor and ambience of Arabic music.
Overall, this CD contains a wide variety of exemplary belly dance music, although it slightly disappoints due to orchestration, when traditional instruments would be preferable. Erika Borsos (erikab93)

5 out of 5 stars Mystirious Passionate Musique !!.......2003-05-01

I love this ablum very much !
It is not too noisy , too hard beat as some Belly Dance albums, but enjoyable groove floting in the air. Some fast and dance-able mixed with some groovy quite songs. Never too excited while not sleepy as some ethical albums.

Track 8: "Gazal", composed and performed by Essam Rashad, is a beautiful track which had appeared in Natacha Atlas's debut album, but differnet version. Natacha's version has some chant, but here is a pure instrumental version which leads us into the stary desert .......

Buy it !! It is low price now and it actually worth twice of it's price !!

4 out of 5 stars Smooth music.......2007-05-06

I bought this at the recommendation of my bellydance instructor. I was not disappointed. It's a great mix of slow, fast, instrumental and vocal accompanied arabic music. Not very traditional, but suited my practice purposes perfectly.

2 out of 5 stars It's okay, but doesn't sound like bellydance to me.......2007-02-18

I was hoping this would be techno or ambient versions of bellydance beats and a few songs are, but most are just Arabic pop sounding.

5 out of 5 stars Galactic Goosebumps..........2007-01-30

...is what some of these songs caused in me. hahaha I had to start with something corny. But no seriously it's a great cd and I'm glad I bought it. It's something that I can see myself playing for myself alone as a rock out to dance as a form of prayer and ultimate expression.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and inspiring music .......2007-07-12

Once again the Bellydance Superstars produced a wonderful and inspiring collection of songs: great for listening, teaching and performing!!!
Varied in mood and melody, worthy of the "Superstar rating".

4 out of 5 stars Good, But Not As Good As One and Two .......2006-04-14

This one hasn't hooked me as well as the first two volumes have. I might have liked it better if I didn't own the first two. Volume One will always be my favorite and I think it spoiled me. It may simply be a matter of personal taste and preference. I don't care for most of these songs but that doesn't mean that it's not a good CD. I do like three of the songs and I am finding that it is slowly growing on me the more I listen to it. For bellydancing, the songs all have the right beats and tempo and may appeal to other dancers with different musical tastes. There's a good variety ranging from classic bellydance to modern music and the artists are the best of the best. I do wish that more of the songs used in the performance DVDs had been included. I prefer Volumes One and Two, but if this was the only one you could get it wouldn't be a waste of money. It's still worth buying for your personal collection or studio library.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Dancing!!!.......2006-02-23

These are all very good songs for dancing. It is very easy to make a choreography from these songs, especially for a folkloric group. There is a lot of fun folkloric music here. There is a modern fusion piece with drums by Isaam (#2). The drums are very beautiful and Isaam is a great drummer. The first song on this CD is one of my favorite songs. It has such a beautiful arrangement. The music is a rich mixture of baladi, saidi, classical and drums. I love number ten also: it is a lovely accordion baladi. This CD also has very nice, interesting music that could be used for tribal-style. Overall, it is a great CD, and I like all of the songs here.

4 out of 5 stars Vol. 3.......2006-01-10

I like this one, but maybe not as much as volume one and two. I think there are a lot of good songs that really get you in the mood to just jump up and dance. I remember all this music from the local Belly dance festival though, so when you buy it, if you are using it for a performance, remember that it's a very common album and a lot of others maybe using the same music.

4 out of 5 stars Superstars 2 as Good as 1.......2007-04-04

I enjoyed this disc as much a volume 1...I know some disagree, but I liked it very much. A little different from Volume 1, but very nice in its own way.

5 out of 5 stars Pretty good.......2006-05-03

I am belly dancer and have been for almost two years. I recently bought this cd and it is really good. I feel like there is a lot of variety, though I still have to say, I like number one a little better. It's still good. I have to point out, at the Utah Belly Dance Festival, I heard a number of these songs a gazillion songs. Remember, if you are doing a performance, and want something really unique, these songs are commonly used. Some more so than others, I admit, but still.

5 out of 5 stars Very Different But Just As Great As Volume 1.......2006-02-11

I listened to this CD just a few times before it grew on me, and it did so quickly. My first impression was that it is completely different than the compilation of Volume 1, so if you own the first CD, keep an open mind and let go of your expectations. Where Volume 1 contains mostly bellydance and middle eastern classics, Volume 2 is made up of more modern, pop and techno tracks, such as "Entrance Of The Stars," a song that was composed specifically for the Superstars and Desert Roses. This one has several shorter tracks suitable for solo performances and I like that! I found the perfect song for my sword dance in this compilation! I think that it's important for a dancer to be willing to try a variety of music and dance styles, and this is a great addition to your library.

To learn more about the history of bellydance and the Bellydance Superstars' role in educating the public about this art form, check out the "American Bellydancer" DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Another good compilation!.......2004-10-09

I enjoyed this one very much as well. Not as much as the first one but hey.....greatness of music is in the ears of the listener. Again the variety of music is great and there is plenty in both Superstars albums to bring out the choreographer in us Raks Sharquiteurs.

5 out of 5 stars This is the most awesome bellydance compilation!!!.......2004-05-21

Wow, what a great selection of songs! Each song is a pleasure to listen and to dance to. I have a wonderful time dancing to this CD for my dance shows and my students love it as well.
This is the best bellydance compilation I've heard in years, and it's also better than the first Bellydance Superstars. Highly recommended to avid listeners of amazing Middle-Eastern beats and dancers who can't get enough of shake shake shake!

This album is a delightful composite of Turkish bellydance music, which brought back pleasant memories and visions of the graceful art of the dance. Even if you are not familiar with the dance, the instruments bring you to the Levant in an enjoyable way.

5 out of 5 stars More than get up and move.........2007-01-05

The music is lovely, haunting, thought provoking stuff, Great to move to and even greater kept low with candles and a fire to support conversaion or renewing your reason to be alive.Very invigorating fun energy, gets some strange looks from the people in the next car at stoplights, supports grinning freely.

5 out of 5 stars guaranteed Turkish style.......2006-05-27

Every track of this CD offers lively inspiration for dancing and fantasizing. As a whole, the CD really delivers (with real instruments) the Turkish style of cabaret, which has never been for the faint of heart.

Track six, "Nihavent oyun havasi," is perfect for any dancer who needs pacing because the tempo is moderate, neither too fast nor too slow, while the overall mood is hypnotic, though more varied than in the first track "Desert Night Dance" which has more steady mystique, even in the fast part, and hence is excellent for dramatic veil work. Also the Nihavent music makes good use of zilya (finger cymbals) in a way that almost focuses the music around this small percussion.

The final track "Trakya ciftetellisi" is a real sweat drencher at eight minutes and twenty seconds. Not for beginners, it could leave even the most advanced dancer breathless but ecstatic!

5 out of 5 stars It got a beginner belly dancing!.......2005-01-06

I've very recently decided to take up belly dancing in the privacy of my own home, and while I've gotten much music lately, this CD had me up and trying everything I could think of in the living room. This one really inspired me. Listen to the samples! Enough slow rhythms to encourage undulation at a speed even I could accomplish.

5 out of 5 stars I know my rhythms now!.......2002-12-31

I was very pleased with this 2 CD set. The first one seemed to be intended for dancers and the second for musicians, but this dancer got FAR more benefit out of the second CD. The first one's rhythms sounded exactly like they would in a dance piece - which was bad news for me, because I couldn't pick out the details of each rhythm! The drummers' CD was far clearer and easier to understand.

However, once I had the basics down from the drummers' CD, I was able to go back and easily recognize the various rhythms on the dancers' CD. I am also doing really well at recognizing rhythms in other pieces of dance music. I've wanted to learn this for a long time, and Hossam made it easy!

5 out of 5 stars instructional and great at it!.......2002-04-06

This 2 cd set is an introduction to Egyptian dance rhythms (and sounds to an extent). All of the rhythms are in the track listings - so you should check it out. It includes a samaai which is a beautiful and less popular rhythm as well as all of the Egyptian classics. It does not include classic Turkish rhythms like karsilima or chiftitelli. Each track starts with Ramzy's voice explaining the rhythm and the liner notes include a very helpful musical notation version of most of the rhythms.

This is definitely not a cd that you would want to perform to or probably even dance around your house to. The tracks are very repetitive, but that's the point! Ramzy is trying to drum into your head (pun intended) what the rhythms are, and it is sooo important for a dancer to understand them.

I listened to this cd about a million times in preparation for a drum solo performance (of one of his Sabla Tolo songs - another great cd, by the way). The cd is not comprehensive; there are rhythms out there that he does not include - baladi would have been nice. But it is wonderful and useful for dancers and musicians. Don't buy it if you're looking for a fun intro into Middle Eastern music.

4 out of 5 stars Name it right !!.......2001-08-06

This is essentially an educational CD that introduces the various Middle Eastern percussion instruments and their rhythms to the absolute novice. Even if you are tone deaf, you should at least be able to hear the differences between the Masmoudi and the Malfuf and the Zaar .... and the repetitive nature of the CD merely serves to reinforce the lesson. But even if you don't get it at 1st go, try try again... the penny will drop one fine day!

For those looking for nice "Oriental background music" this is not for you.

For dancers....this is not really suitable for a choreographed show/ piece but it's still good for a workout ...those hip drops, that 3 step malfuf, the zaar moves...plenty to work on there. You could also work on your zill skills here by playing along.

5 out of 5 stars Great intro to Egyptian dance rhythm.......2001-07-27

As a novice in belly-dancing, the workshop recording of this CD helps to give me a good sense of the different variations of dance rhythms, and a better appreciation of the music I hear.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent learning resource.......2001-07-21

This CD is based on a workshop held by Hossam on basic Eygptian rhythms. He introduces different percussion intruments, and verbally explains how to achieve basic sounds like "dum" and "tak." This CD is essential to any bellydancer or amateur drummer. Hossam comments between pieces, introducing each new rhythm. Be aware that it is an instructional album.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant fusion of breakbeat and middle-eastern flavors.......2003-09-14

Turkey's Oojami are absolutely at the top of the heap when it comes to integrating Arab and middle-eastern melodies, rhythms and textures into modern electronic breakbeat. Every track on this CD is excellent. Great dancing AND listening album. Can't wait for their next release.

Warning: May be inappropriate for American belly-dancing classes, LOL.

Oojami - 'Bellydancing Breakbeats'...
I love Oojami's ingenuity in mixing Mid-East beats with electronica!!! I feel they are pushing boundaries in Middle Eastern music while retaining classic Middle East instrumentation mixed in with the electronica beats... Here's my breakdown track by track...
1) My fave track - hot Mid-East beats that keeps you moving from start to finish... I first heard it on "Bellydance Superstars"...
2) This is a trippy track I love that has some amazingly beautiful flute music floating over it at different interludes throughout...
3) This track serves up wonderful Mid-East beats over a constant danceable electronica beat with ethereal vocals interspersed throughout...
4) This track gets you moving from it's first beat to it's last...
5) This downtempo chill track has a beautiful vocal intro...
6) Another mello track with beautiful instrumentation blended perfectly with the electronica beats...
7) This track picks the beat back up a little with it's more upbeat ecstatic beats...
8) I love this track's breakbeat style that pushed Mid-East music boundaries... I heard it first on "Desert Roses & Arabian Rhythms II"...
9) A more ethereal downtempo breakbeat track to chill to...
10) This track serves up a d'n'b downtempo style to chill to...
11) This track continues pretty much in the same mode as #10...
12) This track picks the beat back up a little with it's more upbeat ecstatic beats with otherworldly vocals mixed in...

13) This is a very chill track with nice drumming underneath it...
14) This track has a very exotic intro into a more downtempo breakbeat mode...
15) This is a very beautiful ethereal chill track...

All in all, I loved this cd... It has a mixture of different style tracks - downtempo, fast dance tracks, chill out tracks - that all retain a Mid-East home base of beats/feel

1 out of 5 stars Repetitive, boring and not danceable.......2003-01-03

As a fan of contemporary Middle Eastern pop music, I bought this cd with an eye towards using it in dance performances. Unfortunately, I was completely disappointed. Most of the cuts are mindless and annoyingly repetitive. They are not at all catchy and certainly do not make me want to jump up and dance. Rather, they make me want to get a refund for the good money I spent on this album. Almost none are suitable for a performance of any type. They remind me of rave music, which may be fine for some, but I can't even stand to have this thing playing in my car while I drive. Please take the time to listen to the samples Amazon has up: the songs don't get any better.

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS!!.......2002-09-19

This cd has me moving! I love it...I recomend it to anyone who likes to dance :)

5 out of 5 stars Infectious and full of substance.......2002-08-21

I picked this up on a whim when I was teaching a beginner bellydance class to people who had no previous exposure to mid or near east music. I am not a fan of mindless repetitive electronica, but I needed something to introduce a steady beat. I was increadibly surprised. This is more than just mid east pop music with a backbeat. It is well constructed and the electronic components are well integrated into traditional Turkish sound and instruments. Infectious grove, but well constructed.
