Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Fine Rock Music from Germany.......2002-03-27

This is a very fine Album of the German Band BAP. The Songs are sung in dialect and the lyrics are very inteligent. But I think the very best Album is the first one with the famous song "Verdamt lang her".

5 out of 5 stars Intelligent rock music.......2000-04-05

The dialect of the Cologne rock band BAP is hard to understand even for a German (you should read the booklet with the translation: the lyrics are worth it), but the music will be understood by everybody who likes real "honest" rock songs. I was at a life concert in Hamburg/Germany, where even after several encores not only the audience but also the band were so enthusiastic that they kept on playing, unplugged, because the electricity had already been switched off. It was like a big party, the audience knew many songs by heart, especially the classics like "Verdamp lang her" (dammed long ago). I like Wolfgang Niedecken's intelligent lyrics and the soulful but nevertheless really rocking kind of music.

3 out of 5 stars Pure live.......2000-01-12

BAP is a German band singing in Kölsch which is the dialect spoken in Cologne (yes, where your eau de cologne was invented).

This album from the 1982/83 tour shows a band that loves to do gigs and is in good form. Live as live has to be.

And you don't just get to hear good hits - but also the stories behind some of those hits. E.g. in frontman Wolfgang Niedecken's introduction to »Weißte Noch?«.

Rock'n'roll songs like »Verdamp Lang Her« and »Frau, Ich Freu' Mich« are powerfully well-played, as are »Ahn'ner Leitplank« and the beautiful »Do Kanns Zaubre«. And as the crowd joins in on e.g. »Stell Dir Vüür«, you can really hear the live experience.

A recommendable disk to get to know BAP's older stuff too.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely excellent BAP -- a tribute to their skill!.......1999-04-04

When I first lived in Germany back in 1982, a good friend introduced me to BAP saying she was going to a concert, and they were just so excellent! Shortly thereafter, I was able to hear a tape of "Bess Demnahx" through another friend, and I was immediately transfixed! I must have played that tape 100 times that first day (yes, he finally got his tape back). For some reason though, the first song, "Wenn et bedde..." caught me and wouldn't let me go!

From there I progressed to the next song... and the next. With few exceptions, it seemed that each successive song could hold my interest for hours.

Sung in the typical "kölner dialekt", the words are sometimes tough to understand, but the music is stunning! From beginning to end this album is packed full of super-songs! "Zehnten Juni," "Kristallnach" (one of my all-time favorites), and of course "Verdammt lang her," among many others!

I heartily recommend this one to anyone -- BAP fan or not!
