5 out of 5 stars vivid japanese folk.......2006-01-30

akeboshi is the best indie folk artist in japan at this moment. this album is a compilation of his previous three eps with the addition of two new songs. akeboshi rose to fame with it's song 'wind' as the into to the anime naruto. being the first song on the album, it is hardly the most uplifting. each song is re-recorded from the eps and lulls you into a state of complete comfort. there is no artist that can be compared to akeboshi because it's composed with instruments that seem foreign to japan yet the style is very connected with japan's contemporary youth culture, juxtaposing slow melodic guitar and violin tracks with edgy grunge beats.

this album is essential for anyone looking for the best of contemporary indie music in japan. it's well worth the price.

Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't involve themselves much with foreign artists. Fortunately, years after certain albums are released, they magically appear on Amazon for sale in America.

Akeboshi has a beautiful voice and tries to sing in English (which is hard to understand). But his music is very folk with much strumming of violins and guitars. It's very restful music.

White Reply is the most contemporary album of his, using synth beats for the first time. It's not as organic and adherant to the work he has been doing in his albums Stoned Town and Faerie Punks, but it certainly worth the purchase. The album art is from ryo matsuoka, who everyone should check out at http://www.ryoart.com . His work is world renowned and the style is unlike anything I've seen before, sort of Jackson Pollock meets Franz Kline.

If you like Akeboshi, check out Kuno Shinji. I only wish Amazon sold his album Orange Juice Grapefruit Juice.

Let me just say that Akeboshi is a very talented artist, one that I am a big fan of. Musically, I thought this CD was just OK, though. I just didn't like it as much as some of his older stuff.

Even though I $18 is pretty cheap for an import CD, these 6 tracks just aren't worth $3 each. Except maybe the title track "Yellow Moon."

      5 out of 5 stars amazingly beautiful.......2006-04-18

Naruto fillers are good for one thing at least: finding amazing new songs from the new openers and enders. example: the newest ender: Yellow Moon by Akeboshi. I've always loved Akeboshi, but when I heard this, it was so beautiful I almost cried. The CD is classic Akeboshi, with themes that stick in your head for hours after you've listened to the song. Bonus, this CD's at the actual price, instead of the jacked-up prices Japanese import CDs are usually at. It's a beautiful CD, and you won't regret it.
