5 out of 5 stars Fom a butterfly to a star.......2004-07-01

Probably her best CD.
As well as this cd, I've got the one with these songs sung by Michel Berger who wrote them, and it's funny to think how 'together' but separately (as Berger died before Sanson made this cd) they've produced this collection of songs at their best.

For once not written or composed by herself, the songs gain energy being sung by her, while they retain some of Michel Berger's gentleness. The two styles have blended very harmoniously to produce this tonic as well as dreamy, slightly intoxicating collection.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding! Two Thumbs up!.......2002-07-07

One of Veronique Sanson's best album...Though it is the first time she sings songs she did not write herself, this album has a special meaning for her: most of those songs were "love messages" Michel Berger sent to her via his albums though out his life.

Now, hearing Veronique sing those songs is very moving, since Michel Berger died 10 years ago.

One of my favorites are "Lumiere du jour","La minute de Silence".
Michel Berger must be very proud of her.

5 out of 5 stars Sanson's "D'un papillon a une etoile" shines.......2000-10-26

I admit to my biais. To begin with, in my opinion, Sanson can do no wrong. I've been a fan of Veronique Sanson (on and off - I lost track of her for a while, due to the difficulties of getting French music in English Canada and now I'm like a kid at Christmas, catching up!) for 25 years. In this, her latest CD, she sings not her own material, but the songs of Michel Berger. Berger, a singer-songwriter, composer and producer, was well-known in the French-speaking world. He produced Sanson's first two albums "Amoureuse" and "De l'autre cote de mon reve". He died of a heart attack in 1992 at the age of 44.

A songwriter could not ask for a finer interpreter than Vero Sanson and there's not a bad cut in the entire album, which is both tribute and love song to Berger.

Accompanied by lush strings directed by Paul Buckmaster, Neal Wilkinson on drums, Leland Sklar on guitar, and others, this is a fine introspective and retrospective collection of lovely music and intelligent lyrics ranging from material written in the early 70s to just a little before Berger's premature death.

I just acquired this CD and have been playing it non-stop since I got it. My particular favourites at this point are "Lumiere du jour" - you can hear the raw emotion in Sanson's voice particularly on the chorus; and "Chanson pour un fan", a song of love and affection dedicated to the writer's fans.

4 out of 5 stars A MOST FITTING TRIBUTE.......2000-10-18

Only VERONIQUE SANSON could pay a tribute like this to her first producer who really got her career going back in 1972.MICHEL BERGER who died in 1992 was also FRANCE GALL's beloved husband. He wrote over 400 songs in 20 years.VERONIQUE has chosen well, but the most stunning aspect are the arrangments who are sometimes quite different from the originals. That's the reason i like that record, VERONIQUE's best in years.Go for it, if you like pop music done with taste

4 out of 5 stars A strange, haunting ambiance..........2000-01-23

I'm surprised no one has commented on this CD. The big hits were "Le Paradis blanc" and "Chanson pour une fan," very good songs, but not the best, in my opinion. That honor would go to "Diego, libre dans sa tete," with its haunting vocals and ripping guitar solo (which is perhaps what kept it off the airwaves). Other very good songs include "Les Princes des villes," "L'Amour est la," and "Pour me conprendre." I usually can't stand pop music, but this is better than anything I've heard by Celine Dion and Patricia Kaas. In fact, every song on this CD could've been a hit; there's not a bad tune here (although admittedly a bit repetitive in terms of arrangement and tone).
