4 out of 5 stars What Memories.......2004-01-29

I used to play for Happy Louie and this album is a sample of Louie's earlier music. These songs were standards that were requested for years while on the road with the band. This album is indicative of the "bouncing beat" that Louie's band was always noted for. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a polka music fan. A must have!!!

4 out of 5 stars Almost as nice as a Mercedes C-230 car!.......2001-01-01

Well, Happy Louie and band have made a clear and important impact on the Polka music industry. They combine the ever-popular Polka with the refreshing style of Latin music. The brass and woodwinds really come together to create a full ensemble sound. This actually reminds me slightly of the Rooks Brothers. Kris and Robby Rooks, along with Timmy C, were an opening act in the Atlantic City nightclub scene during the 1950s. Though popular at the time, they never made it to the big spotlight in Vegas. I give this CD 4 of 5 stars for the innovation of the Latin-Polka style. It's not quite 5 stars due to the sound quality of the CD. But, for a new comer to the classic Polka style, it's a must have.

4 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2000-12-10

I am extremely familiar with Happy Louie's music. This CD is a collection of his early music. The recording equiptment back then was not as good as the technology that we have today. That is the only reason that I gave this CD a 4 star rating. But the quality of his music and singing is truly a 5 star. His Polish vocals are wonderful. He is very energetic with his music and performances on stage. His energy shows in all of his music. If you like Polish Polka music this is a good CD to have in your collection. Any of Happy Louie's Polka band CD's are a wonderful addition to add into your Polka music collection!!

1 out of 5 stars Almost as good as my grandmother's Victrola.......2000-07-21

This CD sounds as though it were recorded on a cheap home tape recorder, using a single ten-dollar microphone placed somewhere in the general vicinity of the band. The sound quality is so bad that I cannot tell whether I would have liked the artist, had he gone to a professional recording studio. I suspect that, even then, I would find the sound excessively whiney. There is absolutely no stereo effect, either. This is one to avoid.
