New Jersey's favorite sons in the days before Bruce Springsteen, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons were practically the only group from the doo-wop era to continue to thrive during (and after) the British Invasion. Aside from a natural facility for four-part harmony, the group had the added advantage of keyboardist Bob Gaudio (who wrote most of the group's hits) and producer Bob Crewe, who gave the songs a Spector-esque sheen. This disc collects the best Four Seasons stuff from 1962 to 1965, including "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Dawn (Go Away)." It's an appealing package, but provides an incomplete picture of the group; Four Seasons fans should definitely check out Volume 2, which includes more complex later hits like "Let's Hang On" and "Working My Way Back To You." --Dan Epstein

The Valli Boys.......2007-05-16

A collection of 15 of the top hits by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, about the only American group to success during the British invasion of the mid-sixties, this CD is a wonderful trip into the past. Most of their Top 40 from 1962-1964 are here, except, alas, "Rag Doll." If you like the Four Seasons, you will love this CD.

Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 is a collection of the Four Seasons' hits from the first stage of their career. The songs have a Jersey street corner feel and the group's harmonies are stellar. Songs like the number one hits "Sherry", "Walk Like A Man" & "Big Girls Don't Cry" are classics as are other gems like "Bye, Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye)", "Big Man In Town" and great Bob Dylan cover "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" recorded under the name The Wonder Who with Frankie Valli singing in a register that is just beneath a dog whistle.

This is one of the best greatest hits I have heard in a really long time. My personal favorite song is Unbreakable. Other songs I really like on the album is How Does It Feel, Against All Odds, and Uptown Girl.

Awesome Band!.......2007-02-20

Westlife to me is one of the greatest group of singers out there today! They have such beautiful voices and wonderful harmonies! They get compared to other boy bands, but they are definitely by far the best of them all. All their albums are absolutely awesome, so I'm not going to say that this one is the best. What I can say is that my most favorite song off this album is "Written in the Stars". I love the words and message to this song. The guys sound so incredible and the music goes perfect with their harmonies. Other songs that are also awesome are "Tonight" (my second most favorite), "Bop Bop Baby", "Queen of my Heart" and "I have a Dream". If you've never heard of these guys, give them a chance! I only wish that they'd make it as big over here in the U.S.A, as they have overseas! They deserve to be #1, because unlike N'Sync and the Backstreet Boys, they've released an album every year since they were discovered in 1999. That is a dedicated group. Even when Bryan (one of the five memebers) left, they didn't just give up, they carried on as a 4 some. That to me shows they love their fans and love the music. I hope they are around for many, many years to come.

This album has nearly all the Weatlife hits and unlike other "Greatest Hits" albums this is worth buying. Good album. Great compilation. All the songs are equally good. Worth every single cent you spend on it.

Another great Irish boyband!.......2006-01-12

Westlife is the group everybody is talking about! They have an amazing string of hits and they're worshipped by fans everywhere! This single has all their hits, including a duet with Mariah Carey: a FANTASTIC cover of Shrill Collins' "Against All Odds!" It's so amazing. This CD gets my highest possible reccomendation.

Flying Without Wings.......2005-02-19

This in my opinon is the best boy band out their today and it's simply tragic they haven't caught on here in the States! With gorgeous looks and voices that blend perfectly together this is the group that has it all-- It's incrediable!

Their love songs are beautiful and touching great after you've gotten dumped or you've found that special one. I orginally bought this C.D. for the simple fact that Simon Cowell from American Idol produced this C.D.-- and if the hard to please Simon found this group good than I knew they were worth listening too.

This C.D. is their greatest hits and their is a not a bad track on this C.D. My favorite songs are "Flying Without Wings" which is better than the Ruben versiona and "Take A Look At Me Now" the duet with Mariah Carey. Buy this C.D. for your teen or pre-teen daughter and have her be amazed by U.K's "Backstreet Boys."

Paging Kurtis Mantronik...!.......2005-05-22

The biggest problem with Ca$h Money is that producer Mannie Fresh copied all of his moves from the genius producer Kurtis Mantronik. Fresh, however, has neither the talent nor the resourcefulness that has made Mantronik one of the most important and influential producers and composers in all of contemporary pop-oriented electronic music.

The MCs in the Ca$h Money crew are far from the most skilled, with the exception of Mack 10, who signed a one-album deal with the label so he could work with Mannie Fresh. However, Juvenile's "Ha," with its Mantronik-derived production and Juve's compelling drawl is one of those so-wack-it's-good joints that requires further listening. In fact, all of Juve's joints garner further inspection because of that odd flow (and diction) or lack thereof. The same for Li'l Wayne & Mack 10's "Shine," which is probably the most original Mannie Fresh production ever, even though Wayne's angel-dust-sounding sing-song flow is so annoying that it becomes positively addictive. While fans of commercial southern hip-hop will find this enjoyable, it will irritate heads looking for beats, rhymes, and skills. Almost all of the important joints are here, so this is probably the only Ca$h Money album you'll ever need.

It's a measure of Roy Orbison's classics that even some of the uptempo songs that break up the dominant balladic mood of this 20-song collection are themselves fairly melancholic. Rarely does Orbison allow himself the outright celebration of something like "Mean Woman Blues," more often going for the shades of gray that slip into "Blue Angel" and "Leah." Few could do what he achieves on these singles, and not just because few are gifted with such a voice. The biggest achievement of all may be Orbison's ability to make a devastated cry like "Only the Lonely" sound somehow peaceful. --Rickey Wright

Best 1 disc Orbison collection.......2007-05-27

This is the best single disc collection of Roy Orbison's Monument hits. It was originally released on 2 LPs in the early 80's. One thing I've always wondered about is that this 20 track CD has always been also available as 2 separate volumes with 10 tracks each & having the same cover artwork (you'd have to be careful to read the list of tracks on the back) Why?? If someone is an Orbison fan why would they want one volume & not the other? Why not just have all 20 tracks on one CD, as it is done here? Also, one reviewer asks why "You Got It" isn't here,well it's because that song wasn't even recorded yet when this album was released, and that song was on Virgin Records,not Monument.

I would like to suggest, contrary to the review of Aug 2006, that the sound on this nice collection of Roy Orbison's Monument hits, is actually quite good.

With the puzzling exception of the song LOVE HURTS, which seems to have been mastered from a very muffled tape.

This Sony disk was issued in 1989, and has not been re-mastered since then, so you're getting a relatively unfutzed edition for a nominal price.

Nipper's vaults are a tad sparse on music from the 1950's.......2001-12-28

I wish I could figure out the rhyme and reason as to what songs Nipper has access to and what they do not because the Greatest Hits Collections for the 50's (and 40's) are not as great as the ones for the 60's (and 30's). Go figure. Yes, there is Elvis doing "Heartbreak Hotel" and Harry Belafonte singing "Banana Boat (Day-O)," but I have not heard of half of the artists on this CD left along half of the songs. If anything this particular album leans more towards country, with "Oh Lonesome Me" by Don Gibson and songs by Jim Reeves and Eddy Arnold, and easy listening with Perry Como and Dinah Shore. Of course, most of us would be hoping for a bit more early rock'n'roll than Neil Sedaka's "Oh! Carol" and "The Rock and Roll Waltz." Instead we get Mario Lanza, not that there is anything wrong with that. As always the rule of thumb is quite simple: If there are five songs that you would like to add to your music collection, then this album is worthy of your consideration. Of course, if you were old enough to have heard some of these songs in the first place, then the odds might be more in your favor.

"Catch a Falling Star" in Real Stereo!.......2000-07-18

This CD compilation contains the only ever BMG released real stereo version of Perry Como's 1958 classic "Catch a Falling Star". For many years, RCA Victor denied the existence of these tapes, now referred to as binaural, where Perry's voice is recorded solely on one side with everything else on the other. Listening to Perry's vocal harmony with the Ray Charles Singers within this simple arrangement is remarkable . . . considering that it was never supposed to exist! RCA's release of this song, and others, subjected to electronic reprocessing to simulate stereo seems all the more ridiculous when you hear the real thing! This stereo version was also released by Time-Life within their series "Your Hit Parade" for the year 1958. "Catch a Falling Star" was the very first record certified as "Gold" by the Record Industry Association of America" and Perry received a Grammy that same year for his performance.

A wonderful way to revisit the '50s!.......2000-06-18

This Nipper's collection does a marvelous job of representing the bewildering hodge-podge of sounds that made up the popular music of the 1950s. There is mainstream pop like Perry Como's "Catch a Falling Star", mainstream country like Hank Locklin's beautiful "Send Me the Pillow You Dream On" and the early rock sounds of Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel" and Neil Sedaka's "Oh, Carol."

Mario Lanza's "Be My Love" is nearly operatic, Perez Prado's "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White" represents the big band sound, and Harry Belafonte's catchy "Banana Boat (Day-O)" has a strong calypso character.

The mastering of this disc is very good and the sound quality may surprise you. The Nipper's 1950s GH discs are an excellent way to jump start a '50s collection or to just take a quiet journey back to a simpler musical time. Either way, this disc and its companion will provide many hours of listening pleasure. Highly recommended.

I don't know what brought you to look over this page, but you shouldn't leave without dropping "Guitar--Greatest Hits" in your shopping cart. I bought this cassette ten years ago and absolutely loved it. I updated to a CD copy a few years back and swear by it for sleeping, driving, relaxing. Williams's consummate musical talent gives voice to some of the greatest classical guitar pieces ever, by the best composers ever (Albeniz, Sergovia, Vivaldi, etc.). The technique is brilliant, the melodies breathtaking. Nothing sounds quite like nylong string classical guitar, and few command the instrument like Williams.
