feel the love.......2002-08-19
Sri Sachinandan Sen and his wife, Srimati Renuka Sen (who after Sri Sen's passing in 1972 joined a monastic order and is now known as Brahmacharini Mirabai), were famous in India as musicians and teachers of classical and religious music.
This is an impromptu live recording (and as such, the sound is good), at the Yogoda Satsanga/Self-Realization Fellowship Ashram in Ranchi, India, singing these wonderful, melodic "bhajans" of heartfelt worship to the Transcendent Creator's aspect of Divine Mother.
There is an intense spirituality to these chants, and they are played and sung with much skill and feeling.
Sri Sen wrote all the music, and some of the lyrics, also using traditional Bengal poetry and Sanskrit prayers and hymns.
The instruments used are: Harmonium, tampura, tabla, bell, pakhawaj, khola, kansar, kartal, manjira, and my favorite, the blowing of the conch shell.
The total time for this 2-disc set is 93 minutes, and the enclosed booklet includes the meaning and translation of these devotional songs. Granted, this CD isn't going to get a wide audience in the Western world, but if you enjoy Indian spiritual music, you will find these exquisite, lovingly executed bhajans a total delight to listen to, as well as being uplifting music for meditation.
