Not a diva in the traditional sense, Lesley Garrett is establishing herself as a kind of musical Michael Barrymore. A comfortable and generous host, she lets young Ramón Vargas shine alongside herself in "Parigi o cara" from La Traviata while Ladysmith Black Mambazo provides an interesting contrast to Garrett on the closing track. Undeniably, Garrett is happiest alone in front of the band, be it the BBC Concert or Grimethorpe Colliery. Among many seamless arrangements are a delightfully schmaltzy version of "La Vie en rose" and the beautiful new Karl Jenkins composition "He Wishes for the Clothes of Heaven." Her take on Handel's "Tornami a vagheggiar" is frank and confident, though lacking in intimacy and ensemble play. "Bel raggio lusinghier" from Rossini's Semiramide is flawless, but Cole Porter's "Night and Day" sure don't swing. Garrett takes her widening audience on a distinctly unrocky road. Making sure she won't have to wait too long for her next gold, she makes the noises we like to hear, and therein lies the secret of her success. --Yngvil V.G.

Move over Jessye Norman et al, there's a sheriff in town. Her name is Lesley Garrett and she is ready to take over the music industry.

What a terrific voice Lesley has. She is probably one of the best keep secrets in the music world. She lives in England and that may explain why she has not been real popular here in the U.S.A. I think she is ready to make her mark her. All she needs to do is a lot of tours here and she will definately be noticed.

For this cd I was rather disappointed in her song selection. Lesley divided her material between classical and popular music. I have no doubt that Lesley is ideal for both venues, but I don't think it appropriate to mix the types of music.

On this cd I rate Lesleys' voice a perfect "10" but not the material used here.

You music fans out there, please allow Lesley to come into your heart with her song. It will be one of the best choices you have ever made.

Recommedation: Despite my one star rating, I think you should still buy this cd.

Best CD by her so far!.......2000-08-12

I never liked her previous CDs. Definetly she is not world class opera singer except that she is from England(lots of local fans for patriotic reason). However, she is reasonalble good broadway show tune singer. This Cd will prove it. Only minus for this CD is that she shouldnot have recorded operatic pieces since she is not talanted opera singer at all.

Best of Garrett's Performance--"You'll Never Walk Alone".......2000-06-11

This CD, "I Will Wait For You" is the best recording from Garrett's discography. Her voice has warmth and color to showcase her rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Rogers and Hammerstein's "Carousel."

The concert guitar - an a typical Jazzinstrument? This CD is my personal counterargument! It presents 13 of my favorit Jazz- (and Latin)standarts, arranged for concert guitar solo. The arrangements date from the years 1995 - 2003, a priod of wide ranging, high standart Jazz concerts and Jazz sessions in my hometown Würzburg, which took great influence on my musical developement. Special thanks to the composers as well to the people who wrote the lyrics of the recorded pieces. More than one of them (e.g. But beautiful) became even clearer to me by studying the words. And a great Thank You to Jürgen Dassing for the excellent Espresso and the pleasant co-operation during the days of recording; another Thank you to Eva-Maria Barklind - Schwander for the english translation.
