Relax on Ipanema Beach.......2007-06-14

Bossacucanova is known for its quirky re-creations of classic bossa nova songs. "Ipanema Lounge" is more relaxed, more like a nice icy capirinha on a sweltering day.

From the opening song,"Lounge W",which conjures jet-setters kicking back in Rio, to its closing extended version of "Sanary Sur Mer",the "Ipanema Lounge" is a soothing collection of acid jazz&trip-hop. The songs flow effortlessly into one another,like waves upon the Rio beach. "Super Ambient" and "Ultra Samba" are calming,and to use a '60s lounge term,"space-age." "Niemayer" sounds like a song from "The Incredibles" soundtrack. "Baixo Gavea" evokes the Carnivals in Bahia with its rhythms. Marcela Mangabeira's wordless vocalizing provides a calming sonic backdrop.

"Ipanema Lounge" is a perfect summertime soundtrack. Enjoy with a barbecue&a cold drink!

Great Nu Bossa / Brazilian Electronica.......2007-02-24

This guys of Bossacucanova excel in everything they record; and this CD is a proof of exactly that; the compositions, the arrangements, everything about this CD is worthwhile.
One important feature on this recording is the participation of an "unkown female singer until then" whose vocals are amazing like many and many Brazilian female singers, she goes by the name of Marcela Mangabeira on cuts number 2,4,6,10 and 12; check them out; she is awesome.
If you are into Nu-Bossa and Electronica with Brazilian elements; this should be on the top of your list without a doubt.

Solid Nu-Bossa/Bossa Trip Hop But CD Too Short.......2006-02-25

This is a solid collection of minimal vocals - mostly chill nu-bossa nova but a few tracks of latin tinged trip hop/acid jazz.

Perhaps the best description of the entire CD is the track named "Super Ambient," If that's your cup of coconut milk, this CD is for you.

If this were an EP (and EP priced), this would definitely be a 4-star CD (or if you got another 10 tracks) but the running time is pretty short and while the tracks are all solid and interesting - that's not quite enough to make it a must-buy.

I happened across this CD at a CD/Exchange...not knowing what it was (I liked the cover).
I listened to it at least once a day!
Very laid-back grooves, puts me on a beach somewhere in the South Pacific
