5 out of 5 stars Music for a chilly twilight reverie.......2007-06-01

This is one of those rare soundtracks that can easily stand on its own, deeply moving even to those who haven't seen the film & have no emotional associations with it. It's not only music of the infinite heavens, it's music of the equally infinite inner world as well, a flowing & swelling of intense feeling, moving inexorably forward even as it plumbs the past. It embraces loneliness & beauty, longing & fulfillment, and carries the listener along in tides of piercing memories. It's music to make you contemplate your life, to bring tears of both loss & joy, to evoke love & regret. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars A Melancholy Solar Wind-Bath.......2007-03-01

This is a great soundtrack. It washes over you in warm, silvery waves. It is sad, eerie, and a bit haunting--but it is also sweet and quite beautiful despite the virtual absence of melody. Orchestral washes are interspersed with subdued steel-drum rhythms. The music feels comforting and intimate, as if you are being bathed by the musical equivalent of womb-fluids; but the music is also strange, as if the silvery womb-fluids were swashing through the abandoned halls of a space station at the cusp of comprehension. I advise you to soak in this sublime dream music.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD - Had to Buy it Twice.......2007-02-08

I loved the movie and the soundtrack and bought both as soon as I could. I loaned the CD to someone at work and never got it back. Now in 2007 I found it was only available from used sellers (some say they have never opened copies) with the price being around $50 to as high as $100. I say this because it shows how popular the CD has become and how truly good it really is. I of course ordered it from a seller and got the CD, it is truly one of my favorites and highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Piece of Music.......2007-01-06

This is a wonderful ST...Lush, Haunting and warm, this music is great for long drives, warm dinner parties and or sleeping to.

5 out of 5 stars Superb .......2006-12-24

The main purpose of the film score is to further communicate themes portrayed on the screen. With the sound and vision of the cinema experience being inextricably intertwined, the experience is somehow lessened - one without the other. Over the years, Cliff Martinez has been responsible for scoring the many films of Steven Soderbergh and gained a reputation for producing works as powerful as they are unconventional. Of the score to Solaris, Soderbergh offers, "I relied on it not only to unify the film emotionally, but to import actual narrative information." On this soundtrack, Martinez explores an area where orchestral sound, third world instrumentation, ambient music and science fiction themes all converge. The result is engaging, insular music - equally valid with or without the visual element of Solaris the film.

The spellbinding sound and score for Solaris heightens the film's intimacy and helps portray the intensity and isolation played out by the characters of the film's plot. Here, Martinez uses a traditional orchestra (strings, horns, winds, vocalists) in a unique way. The horns' slow swells of volume and brightness sustaining beneath the string section's shifting harmonic contrasts are reminiscent of the spiritual movement in modern classical music. By adding steel drum rhythms and cyclical gamelon tones, Martinez creates a score with a strong personality and presence. It's like a character from the film, as alien and unseen as the force affecting the hapless crew of this psychological drama.

The score to Solairis provides an impressive range of moods; from the welcome embrace of a lost love to the void, vast distances between stars. The track "Hi Energy Proton Accelerator", with its contrast, disonance, cacophony and ultimate resolution, beautifully demonstrates the orchestra's emotional coloristic range. "Will She Come Back" offers tenderness and a soothing space for those haunted by loss, while "Wear Your Seat Belt" combines the energetic rhythms of the steel drum with the orchestra's brilliant animations.

The soundtrack to Solaris serves its purpose well by adding substantial depth and a palpable atmosphere to the film it was designed to accompany. Cerebral yet emotional, at times warm and inviting, at others frigid and empty; these compositions easily stand apart from the film as an interesting and accomplished album of acoustic ambient spacemusic.

The influence of the Seattle sound is widespread enough that this London, England, foursome comes off like Eddie Vedder's bastard offspring. Imitation usually breeds contempt, but the energy and intensity displayed here overcome any skepticism. "Everything Zen," "Little Things" and "Machinehead" are all standout tracks. --Jeff Bateman

5 out of 5 stars One of the best hard rock/grunge cds ever........2007-08-02

Bush hit it big right when I was getting into hard rock and metal, back in junior high. Five hit singles propelled this album into the stratosphere, and it became one of the most-played albums of the decade. They deserve a place right along Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Stone Temple Pilots. While I believe all of those bands to be superior in talent and had more impressive careers, Bush was great on 16 Stone and Razorblade Suitcase. Those two albums made them one of the biggest bands of the 90s.
Buy this album for the hits, but I think you'll be surprised that every song is worth your time. "Everything Zen", "Little Things", "Comedown", "Machinehead", and "Glycerine" are all classics. For those who complain about the lyrics: I say it's not what you sing but how you sing it. And I think that applies well, because Gavin is a talented vocalist who comes up with great vocal hooks. The lyrics might not be the best, but that is a trivial matter to me. This is a must-have cd for anyone who likes hard rock and grunge.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2007-06-05

this is what made Bush what they are..everyone that was old enough to play a stereo knew Bush in the 90's...machinehead, Glycerine, Little Things, Everything Zen, Comedown are all great songs...even if you dont know Bush you will still find some pleasure out of this album.

4 out of 5 stars Good old 90s Grunge.......2007-02-19

For those of us who grew up in the 90s I think that we all remember this album, I remember when I was listening to this in middle school and thought I was the coolest guy ever because no one ever really heard these guys in my new school. Everyone listening to the new wave stuff probably won't really appreciate this but it's worth a look.

5 out of 5 stars one of the best albums of the decade.......2006-11-23

Bush was the top band back in its day. Their other albums are just as good as this one, but this album seems to have had the most popularity. If you don't know much about Bush yet, this album would be the best start.

5 out of 5 stars More Bush Please!.......2006-11-10

I don't know why everyone thinks Bush sounds like Nirvana! Bush just took what Nirvana was doing and made in better. Nirvana didn't last very long either and Gavin is still around killing it! Besides, did you see Kurt on Unplugged! He had yellow teeth-ewwww.
Bush is going to the Rock and Roll hall of fame, No Doubt! Hahahaha! No Doubt , get it. They are going to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame also.
The guitar solos on here is what alternative rock is all about. It all starts right here. Get all the Bush album to truly understand their power.

3 out of 5 stars Outta the dresser and into the rotation.......2005-04-21

When "Got You (Where I Want You)" hit the airwaves, a lot of people went out and bought Holiday Man, listened to it maybe twice (at best) and put it in their bedroom drawer to forever be forgotten. That's understandable; "Got You" is by far the best song on here, and the lead singer's vocals sound like they are continuously being put through a synthesizer. So I'll admit it, even though I found "She's So Huge" to be a not-so-close-behind but respectable second best to their hit single, I pretty much forget about this album. But recently, on a 'remembering one-hit wonders' binge, I gave this album another try. And although I didn't fall in love with it by any means, I was able to find a couple more notable tracks to talk about.

Sadly, even after a number of listens recently, there are still some really bad songs on Holiday Man: "Give You My Car" and "Superfly". Nothing just seems to flow in either track, and no lyrics really jump out at you. "Girls Are The Cruelest" is a rather boring track as well, with lyrics that are hardly a step up from tragically cliché. Next there are two songs that are vastly different from anything else on the album: "The Family" and "Sexual Sandwich". If you don't like Paskowitz's voice in the other ten songs, you might love it here (or, possibly, hate it even more). I like "Sexual Sandwich" as a sexy, almost laughable closer that starts with a Marvin Gaye-like 'this one's for the ladies' quote and carries on with 'do what you do / when you do' chants. "The Family" uses the same type of voice to give thanks to everybody involved with making The Flys so infamous. Neither "Take U There", with its weird, rapping choruses, nor "Afraid", with its catawampus catchiness are really that bad. But on the other hand, they aren't that great either. Take 'em or leave 'em, I guess. "Gods Of Basketball" is a song I have come to enjoy more this time around. The heavy guitars and shouts of 'they'll be sorry when you're gone' are actually quite good; and might actually make the song a hidden gem. But the true, *timeless* gems are "Holiday Man" and "Groove Is Where You Find It". I love the way "Holiday Man" jumps right into things with 'everybody wants to be seen / everybody's eyes are all all-agleam'. If there's a track where the synthesized voice works wonders, it is certainly the title track. The way it finishes is equally as impressive. So if you've shoved this album aside, I do suggest you put it back in your CD-player for three minutes for that song alone (if nothing else). "Groove Is Where You Find It" is in the same vein as "Got You", with a slow groovyness and nostalgic buildup that doesn't exactly get you excited, but keeps you listening.

At long last, Holiday Man is still not a great CD. But it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. However, there is about a 40% chance you might actually hate most or all of the album, even if you absolutely loved "Got You (Where I Want You)". After all, before this week, "Got You" was my 41st favorite song of all-time, while at the same time this CD sat-whether gracelessly or not--in my dresser, covered by unpaid bills and basketball cards. But after a new found liking and respect for such treasures as "Holiday Man", "She's So Huge", "Groove Is Where You Find It", "The Gods Of Basketball" and even "Sexual Sandwich", I was able to find a place for The Flys (between Finger Eleven and Ben Folds) within my discriminatorily-chosen CDs in my CD tower.

1 out of 5 stars Garbage.......2005-04-16

I can't tell you people how bad this album is. It is plain bad. I remember loving the single, so I bought the album. Never was my money so wasted. If you really love Got You Where I Want You then buy the single. TRUST ME on this one. This album is terrible.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible.......2004-06-18

This the worst cd i ever bought. Track 2 is a good song but the rest of the cd is just horrible. This band is just a 1 hit wonder and expect nothing more.

5 out of 5 stars Even better live.......2000-03-08

this album is great. adam's vocals are awesome. i especially love track 5, "holiday man", with its harder edge. i have to say, "the gods of basketball" is way better live, gotta love that intro riff. this band goes way beyond "got you," the pop radio smash hit, and i really wish i could find 25 cents, i hear it's an great album.

3 out of 5 stars Holiday Man gives mixed signals........2000-01-27

All of us I could listen to "Got You" tirelessly... But I've never seen a band so erratic. The other songs on the album are hardly worth mentioning, and the pop-track "Got You" is only a glimmer of The Flys' awesome potential. I don't think "Holiday Man" is their best effort.

Based on the hit single "David Duchovny," it's tempting to dismiss A Cheap and Evil Girl as novelty album. Sharp humorously confesses her infatuation with the X-Files hottie, singing "Sitting like a mindless clone / Waiting for him to tap my phone," later adding, "I'm sweet and I'm cuddly / I'm gonna kill Scully." "David Duchovny," however, is merely an over-the-top introduction to an album loaded with intelligent and poetic songs, some as heartbreaking as others are hilarious. Sharp's quavering vocals thread the virulent tendencies of the Throwing Muses and Sleater-Kinney together with the irreverent sass of the B-52s' Kate Pierson. As a songwriter, her musical narratives are bolstered by lo-fi production and rock arrangements that are simultaneously daring and delicate. Think of her as the female Robyn Hitchcock. Like a lively conversation cut short, A Cheap and Evil Girl leaves you yearning to hear more. --Beth Massa

3 out of 5 stars The truth about this CD is out there..........2005-01-06

Like most who sampled this, I was hooked by the askew pop tribute to X-files star David Duchovny. The ephemeral nature of pop icons probably tends to make people overlook this album as an artifact of the past decade, but that's writing Sharp off too easily. Lyrics claiming the TV spookchaser is the "American Heathcliff" and the stalkerish menace of the fadeout "I'll be waiting in Nevada" hint at the abilities Bree possesses. A listen to the album reveals an awful lot for your about $5 used.

HIGHLIGHTS:
"America" simultaneously castigates ("sit back, relax, enjoy the war from your living room") and celebrates ("All I know is my lonely soul and the remote control") consumerism and apathy, while "Fallen" addresses the issues of poverty and suffering viewed through the lens of a little girl's eyes, perhaps Bree's own? ("Why doesn't everyone have what they need? Where are the angels?"). While "Fallen" may be the album's strongest song, loose male harmony vocals keep the chorus from being what it could be. "Cheap and Evil Girl" puts Bree in the shoes of a femme fatale who toys with boys AND the law ("The dumb gumshoe making his rounds, shaking all the wrong girls down").

LOWS:
Probably the only completely lackluster tracks on this one for me are "Show Me" which seems out of place as it careens between angsty rock and formulaic pop..and "Fool's Gold" which is a by the numbers disillusionment tale.

BOTTOM LINE:
Better than the bargain bins you find her in...think of her as Sheryl Crow with more snarl and better lyrics in general. I'll be looking for a copy of Sharp's followup "More B.S." now...

3 1/2 stars

3 out of 5 stars Suprisingly good.......2004-12-27

Upon first hearing her "David Duchovny" song played on late night radio, I had initially blown it off as a novelty.

Since anything with the X-Files was then saturating the media, hearing that pop tribute at that time was too much for me.
Being only a casual fan of the X Files, the song was not an absolute favorite upon initial release. I believed that Sharp had (and still has talent) but did not think she was the greatest musician in the world.

The song stuck with me however, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I had not imagined myself into liking her voice---or imagining the song itself.

Sounding faintly like Natalie Merchant, Sharp has the reedy voice which many a young `alternative' songstress still is trying to develop. Although the theme of her song is creepy (asking David Duchovny why he does not love her and then alternating between `regular' girl and obsessive fan), it works well for the mood of the song.

The song has to be a pop melody to get listeners to forget that Sharp is essentially playing an obsessive/psychotic fan. A more somber musical arrangement and vocals would have sound very gloomy, potentially driving away people.

3 out of 5 stars a solid effort.......2004-07-26

The most origonal-sounding songs on A Cheap and Evil Girl CD is the song Guttermouth. I'd never heard anything like it before. Bree is a good talent, and the songs are fun pop style...I just think it's odd that she sings a song like

5 out of 5 stars Lovely!!!.......2004-07-10

I cannot even tell you how much I love this album. I heard the track "Cheap and Evil Girl" on an HBO special about strippers of all things! I was so taken by the song that I had to find out who it was. The whole album is simply amazing!! I certainly think it is worth owning!

4 out of 5 stars "she's a fortune cookie full of nasty puns and proverbs".......2004-07-09

Like many back in 1999, I bought this for the guiltily infectious single "David Duchovney" - the rare novelty song that manages to stay charming past its time in the spotlight - and was unimpressed by the rest of the debut. As time has gone by, though, A Cheap and Evil Girl has remained a staple in my collection, allowing its songs time to grow and prove themselves as the unique beauts many of them are (not all, though - the title track in particular is fairly generic). Sharp clearly has a wealth of emotions in her voice ("Walk Away," "Not Your Girl"), but what is particularly surprising is the spunky cleverness of her lyrics - listen to the lightning-speed criticism/ character piece of "Guttermouth," and hear the formation of a real talent.

3 out of 5 stars Where did they get these songs? Not from the movie..........2004-09-17

The motion picture sountrack to Holiday in the Sun was a colossal dissapointment. I bought the cd expecting to hear all of the great tunes from the film, but upon listening to it I was instead surprised with songs NOT in the film. I'm not sure where the record company got half of the album- obviously not from the movie. For instance, if you like the version of 'Island in the Sun' that is in the movie, you would be better off downloading it online, as the version in the movie is by Weezer and is not on the album (shocker!). And if you liked all of the girl tunes by Superchic(k) that were in the movie, you will really be dissapointed, because there is not one song on the album by the band (even though there are at least 3 songs by Superchic(k) in the movie)! I ended up buying Superchic(k)'s Karaoke Superstars because not only does it have all of the Superchic(k) songs from the movie, it also has remixes of those same songs.

I gave the album three stars because while I was irritated that many of the songs from the movie weren't on it, it still had a few from the movie, and over all the album is pretty good.

It is perfect for my 8-year-old...not babyish, but not sleazy like a lot of music targeted at her age group or preteens. The overall message of the songs is: GIRL POWER! Parents, you will actually be able to listen to this again and again without wanting to retch! Something you and your kids can listen to together. This mom, 8- and 4-year old daughters recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars An Improvement Over the First Score.......2007-03-01

While Michael Kamen provided a last minute replacement score when John Ottman was busy with other projects that was mainly electronic in nature with a minimal orchestra, John Ottman provides an orchestral score that is everything that the first X-Men score was not. However, Ottman managed to provide a sound that honored the original Kamen score, only with more thematic presence.
There are several themes in the score. The first is the main theme for the X-Men, which is an upbeat march for brass, which is largely featured in "Suite from X2" and "We're Here to Stay", while bits and pieces of the theme are interweaved throughout the score. The most prominent theme in the score is Jean Grey's theme, which is an awe-inspiring theme complete with chorus and full orchestra. It is my favorite theme in the score. As Ottman explains during the creation of the score on the DVD, there are also motifs for Nightcrawler, Pyro, Magneto, and Mystique, in which samples of them can be found in the first track. Nightcrawler's motif can also be found in "Finding Faith", Pyro's motif can be found in "Playing with Fire", Magneto's motif can be found in "Magneto's Old Tricks", and Mystique's motif can be found in "Sneaky Mystique". "Mansion Attack" is a 7-minute action cue which features dynamic brass writing, percussion hits, and piano strikes.
The only minor difficulty with some of the music is that it can take a while for it to get going in parts, as lots of it is "filler" music. But, once the thematic material and the action music are present, they really take off. With the additional work of editing the film, Ottman managed to multi-task, creating a great score for a great film. Ottman did not return to score the third X-Men film, due to his work on Superman Returns, so John Powell provided that score.

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack!.......2006-11-02

Great score to the second movie of the X-men film. Great themes and great music for a soundtrack. I do wish that they used the"White house attack,Alklali lake,Nightcrawler theme in the church, the end of the movie theme, and alot other themes. The score was better then the first first score. The first Score by Micheal Kamen sort of sucked. Only 5 good themes out of 12. And the score was so short. But the very good thing about X2 was it was atleast an 1 hour long instead of 38 minutes long. John Ottman did his very best with X2!

5 out of 5 stars A MasterPiece.......2005-08-21

I am a fan of Xmen and this score fits the movie like a glove. I only listen to the Suite over and over and for the NightCrawler openeing scene music, its Mozart: Requiem and the title is Requiem in D Minor: III. I looked for it for about 3 days and finally found it. I reccomend 3 others soundtrack scores: Hulk, Red Dragon, and Beautiful Mind. All have about 2 tracks that can be listened to over and over again. Also Kill Bill 1. Can stop listening to White Lightning. Even my son Brahiem loves to listen to it. One extra tip, get Morpheus, and if you cant find the song you are looking for, get Limewire, but delete it as soon as you are done with it because it comes loaded with spyware.

4 out of 5 stars Great Score!.......2004-10-12

I was, as others will state, dissapointed with the first X-men score by the late Michael Kamen. Not that it wasn't good, it just lacked thematic material and use of it. It worked it the film wonderfully which is what I guess, was meant to do. Aside from the film, however it didn't work as well. That aside, the X2 score was wonderful. It workes both ways and has a wonderful powerful theme to it. Allot of the music reminded me of the two Star Trek scores that James Horner scored, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. I guess that makes since because the ending of X2 is similar to the end of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Also on the DVD for X2 John Ottman talkes about how he was trying to make the score sound similar to that of Star Trak II, so there you go. I say if you love epic scores, and you love the X-Men movies, buy this now. It's truly great!

5 out of 5 stars This Cat Can Sing!!!.......2007-06-05

Yes. Danny Aiello, the actor. At first glance, I figured that this was just another vanity production. But when I heard this one I was pleasantly surprised: He really does have a good singing voice. And after a couple of weeks, I caught myself listening to Aiello's release over and over again. No, he isn't one of the greats, but his recording has really grown on me.

What Aiello brings to this collection is what makes him so good as an actor: the ability to tell a good yarn and convince his audience through well-delivered dialogue--in this case, lyrics. There are plenty of sentimental favorites here. His version of the Mills Brothers' hit "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" captures the right balance between hopefulness and loneliness, and brings back a lot of memories from my own childhood (it's one of my father's favorites). On bossa nova arrangements of Cole Porter's "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To" and Pee Wee King's "You Belong to Me," Aiello glides effortlessly from singing on the beat to the backbeat. His scat covers of "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie" and "Pennies from Heaven" remind me a lot of Buddy Greco's showstoppers.

Aiello is for real. I eagerly await his next release and hope it's sooner rather than later.

Easy Listening, sounds like Danny had a good time recording this

Album. He has had a wonderful career and brought us many

wonderful performances. And fan would enjoy this effort by

2 out of 5 stars I can't believe the gushing........2005-06-22

Danny Aiello the actor...wonderful.
Danny Aiello the singer...well, let's just say it's a good thing he has a day job. I am sorry. I am not one to usually put down someone who is probably a real nice guy and works real hard, but this album is beyond bad. Strike that, the arrangements are pretty good but Mr. Aiello simply doesn't have the musical chops to pull this stuff off. I'm sure his friends and family thinks he's all that, and he probably knocks 'em dead at local pubs and at parties, but simply put...he isn't cut out to be a recording artist. His intonation is way off, his timing shoddy at best. He attacks these songs with all the voracity of a toothless old man gnawing away at a juicy steak....Plenty of desire, just no bite!
I am sorry if this comes off as being a bit harsh, but I gotta call 'em as I see 'em. Give it a listen and try being objective. I'm sure you'll agree. If not, then I guess there's nothing left to say other than...pass the A-1 and enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Besame Mucho!.......2005-01-31

The man can swing! Danny has sung in Hudson Hawk, and another movie where he handled "(Fly me to the Moon)In Other Words" rather deftly. The tracks are well selected except the last two. I closed my eyes and pictured Mr. Aiello taking off Bob Fosse makeup while finishing the CD. Brrrrrr. This is a great CD to listen while driving on the turnpike or eating putanesca(sp).

5 out of 5 stars The Other Side Of The Coin; Danny Aiello The Crooner!.......2004-11-13

I have enjoyed Danny Aiello on the silver screen for many years and I was not surprised when he released this album. He has given us little glimpses of his wonderful singing voice and now we get the whole enchilada. His relaxed style and classic phrasing reacquaints us with these timeless tunes and for at least a little while takes us back to a happier time. His backup band is 1st class and the CD as a whole is a real treasure. I can't wait for the next installment!

If you enjoy listening to crooners and Big Band Swing, I would also recommend, Monte Procopio "Swingin' With Style" CD. He is another great crooner that can really swing and deserves a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Great Band!.......2006-10-01

Before they were the Flys, most of the members of this band were in a band Mozart. I was really impressed with the music Mozart made and when I found out they had morphed into the Flys I was really intrigued to hear what their sound would be like.

I admit that I did really like the song Got You Where I Want You when I heard it on the radio but did not recognize them as the band I formerly enjoyed. After listening carefully to this song I definitely hear the old sound mixed in and enjoy it even more now that I know it is derived from the band I really missed.

I am starting to enjoy the rest of the album also but slowly I'll admit. My next favorite song is Sexual Sandwich. I am sure the rest of the album will grow on me as I listen to it more because of the talent and uniqueness of this band!

I am rating it a 5 and giving 4 of the stars because of their talent and how much I enjoy Got You Where I Want You and 1 star for how much I am anticipating enjoying the album in the future.

2 out of 5 stars ok, the flys...........2005-09-06

wel i was turned on to this song at a strip club when 2 lipstick lesbian dancers were doing what they do best to each other. i got you where i want you was the best piece on this cd the rest of the songs didnt strike a buzz with me though. i listen to it with fond memories of those two hot chicks that night at the bar, so i gave it 2 stars for the girls & the song.this is a one hit wonder cd or a good beer drinking cd at a frat party in collage....

4 out of 5 stars something i didnt expect.......2004-06-16

I have been reluctant to buy this album ever since the hit "Got You (Where I want You) which alone makes up for 3 stars of the 4 star rating. I finally decided to shell out a few bucks at a used cd store to get it. I thought maybe some of the songs would be like the smash hit, but not really. Almost a complete mixed bag of altered and drugged up music w/ distorted lushed up ozzie like vocalist.

I do understand after reading the few reviews that this is a great Cali party beach band maybe, but just something I didn't expect after "Hey You."

There's sparks from "Girls are the Cruelest" and the disco like "The Family". Of course "Got You" is the best song by far. Other than that, I find it hard to really get what the band was trying to do in most of the songs. I will admit I do like the cd after several listens. It's something different from the usual hard rock stuff I like, and The Flys is a unique sound all in itself.

What's great about the album is I don't think the band really cares what people think about it. They cater to themselves and the fans who know what to expect form them. They seemed to have fun making this album, and even though I don't have any other The Flys albums, I might reconsider that after I start to appreciate the sound more than what I began. But damn, this is one psyched out blurred album w/ some crazy sounding songs. Oh well, just have to enjoy it when it makes its way to the cd player. For now, 3 stars for "Got You" and 1 for the cleverness of the band.

4 out of 5 stars Great Rock Album!.......2003-05-17

This is California rock, no doubt, and a great "rock party CD' at that. The 70's party rock band was Van Halen, the 80's brought us Jane's Addiction and the 90's delivers The Flys. Speaking of Jane's Addiction, this CD sort of instills the image that their little surfer brothers all formed a band and this is what came out. This is a fairly nice mixture of today's popular genre's all mixed into a stew to be served on modern rock instruments. They even include subtle "tributes" to Sly Stone and Barry White along with the nearly hidden recurrence of the elements of surf music from days gone by. Another pleasantry within is a consistently positive (although sometimes sarcastic) message regarding the female persuasion: that is, very little of the break-up-song, you broke my heart mentality. All in all, a great rock album with tasty songs and recording techniques. Rock lovers will appreciate!

A nice energetic power pop ablum, however, has anyone noticed that the rhythm guitar section in the song "He's Enough Reason" is a rip-off of Boston's classic "More Than a Feeling"...?

5 out of 5 stars A BREAKTHRU ALBUM!.......2006-03-21

I happened uppon this CD when I joined Yahoo Music. It was a recommended album. So I tried it. I was very surprised at how much I LOVE the music on this album!

The Best Songs are: Top of the World, Break Through, Fly, and Better Off. These are my favorites. Each song is catchy, and has a great beat to them.

All the songs on this album are good songs. I did not have to skip any songs. It's nice to be able to listen through a CD completely!

This is deffinately worth a try if you like any of the following artists: Hilary Duff, Jump 5, Play, Lindsay Lohan, Pussycat Dolls, and A-Teens.

Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars "Breakthrough" in Music.......2005-08-11

I first learned about the song "Breakthrough" by watching the Disney Channel. I saw the music video because "Breakthrough" was in the Disney Channel movie "The Cheetah Girls". I also saw the premier of "The Cheetah Girls". I hated the movie, but I really liked the song "Breakthrough". I kept searching for an album from hope 7, and I finally found the perfect album. I recommend this album to anybody who likes music.

5 out of 5 stars HOPE 7 ROCKS!!!!!.......2005-08-01

Hope 7 is the BEST BAND EVER!!!!!! Their songs are energetic and they have great lyrics! Here's my overview of the songs:

Top of the World: Okay. You get kind of tired hearing "to the top, to the top, to the top" over and over along with "it's now, or never, it's now, or never". 5/10

Breakthrough: WOW!!!!! Clearly one of the best on the CD. I watched the music video endless times and finally decided "I want their album!" 10/10

Stupid People: The beat is cool, and so is the music behind it, but not very good lyrics. 6/10

Fly: This is a MARVELOUS song! I love it! It's just a great meaning and great lyrics!!! 9/10

One Thing: What a great song! It has a fast tempo and great music! 8/10

He's Enough Reason: Great song, great beat, great music. I think that about covers it! 9/10

Better Off: Good song, but there's an annoying little buzzing near the end. 6/10

Falling Down Your Stare: Good, but a little long, and a little slow for my taste. 6/10

I Want Everything: This song is what made me want to buy this CD!!! I heard "Breakthrough" and thought "cool!" But when I heard "I Want Everything", I was ecstatic! I knew they were going to be my favorite band!!! 10/10

Feels So Good: An okay song. They pretty much repeat "and it Feels so good, to finally be me." 6/10

Who we Are: Good, yet it can be annoying cause you remember it. And it's pretty much "We are more than who we are." Good meaning, but not for me. 6/10

Overall: 8/10. All the songs I didn't like, I really didn't like. But average that out with all the terrific songs, and we have a winner!!!

5 out of 5 stars Hope 7: Breakthrough> To Success.......2005-06-23

This is a great CD. It is an exhibition of pop-rock at its rhythmic best. Kristi, the vocals singer has a extraordinary voice just as good as Vanessa Carlton and better than Amy Lee of Evanescence. I can see bigger and better things for her like what happened to Delerium's Sarah McLachlan. I mainly got this CD for the second song on the album list 'Breakthrough' which has a great party feel to it and can be used for a dance mix. I gave this CD a twirl in my CD player and loved all the songs - all 11 songs are pure pleasing listening tracks. This is pop rock music with some heavier moments in the later tracks of this CD. I also enjoyed the lyrics of the song 'He's Reason Enough', a song of a woman's love for a man. Wow, I so love Kristi's voice.
Anyone a fan of Hillary Duff, Tori Amos and Vanessa Carlton will love this small group from the USA.
