Mike's style and heart felt vocals envoke lotsa aloha..........1999-07-14

Being a bodysurfer, Mike is at one with the ocean, and it clearly shows through in his fingerpicking and vocals as most of the Hawai'ian Slack Key music does. Mike has played with lots of heavy Slack Key players in his career. Of particular note is his vocal style which was seemingly influenced by the late Sonny Chillingsworth. Being a bodysurfer myself I am totally enthralled with this recording. A friend met Mike in the water at Point Panic (Oa'hu bodysurfing spot on the south shore) and learned of his music-- which is how I got my CD. The open G tuning Mike uses in many songs is very beautiful and stirring, you feel the chord changes in your heart. Two songs "Sandys" and "Panics" are of two bodysurfing spots on Oa'hu. I recommend this CD to virtually anyone who has been to the Islands or not-- you will feel the aloha in your heart.
