I love the movie Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love. Indira Varhma and Sarita Chowdery are very, very beautiful women. And the music in the movie was hott! Especially the song at Princess Tara's wedding where everyone is dancing and Maya is serving the guests in her beautiful red sari. It had a cool beat and I felt like dancing, Indian style!

Love the movie...cinematography is wonderful, a truely beautiful movie, everything is a feast for the eyes. The soundtrack is just as good, perfect blend of exotic music that can be enjoyed lounging around or even bellydanced to.

The songs are sensual, calming, meditative and spiritual. If you appreciate different cultures, this album is for you. Whenever i play this album i turn all the lights out, and light candles, burn incense and meditate. I highly recommend this album with monsoon wedding soundtrack. Everyone i know loves this album. Get it.

Congratulations... you've just found a hidden gem.......2005-08-24

If you've dropped in here by accident STOP, because this is something special. Forget any preconceptions about "new age" music, ignore the awful cover, don't waste time listening to the samples (which are simply short excerpts from the very slow starts to each track) and believe me, if you dare, when I say that this is one of the best "ambient/chill out" albums out there.

Dwarfed by the reputation of younger brother, Mike, Terry Oldfield's music - on this CD at least - follows a much more satisfying, far less bombastic "fusion" style through the merging of haunting Indian melodies & chants with western-influenced structures and the insidious, naturally "club" orientated back-beats of the tablas. The end result? A wonderfully laid-back, cleverly produced album that simply etches itself into your memory banks and demands repeat listening. Closer to "Cafe del Mar" than beards, beads & sandals it's the soundtrack to that languidly cool journey through India you've been promising yourself... and it's a totally undiscovered gem of a record.

This CD is worth buying just for the Dan the Automator track and the amazing cover of Trust in Me from Disney's The Jungle Book. Too bad there isn't a preview on Amazon!

Fun trip to downtempo Bollywood.......2005-04-19

Picked this up somewhere in Asia. It was a blind purchase that sold me because of the familiar western artists like Jah Wobble and Asian Dub Foundation. And a nice surprise. Some very original sounds done in accessible fashion by some people I would have never heard elsewhere. All have some element(s) that make each distinctively Indian without sounding fake. So yes its authentic.

Many will make the crowd move, many will make you smile.

About the only negative for me was that some tracks simply go on too long in a groove that while tasty, really doesn't evolve into anything more than when you first met it. So that is a sort of unimaginative mix that can quickly bore me.

So yes if you are making mixes, this can make great interstitials and some tracks work entirely. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

i recently bought this double disc in toronto. I was just feeling indian music at that time so i bought it and it had a dan the auto mater track. overall its got some chessy dance tracks but overall a great album and as a person who is in to hip hop mainly i loved this album.

Well, not so much a review as a warning. Bought this disc. It's ok as a complitaltion, lot of predictable stuff, not so much NEW. Anyways, playing the second disc 'traditional', got to track 12 and then CUT OFF midway!...no data!, tracks 13,14,15 SILENT!! So mailed the record company, like....where's my tracks? and my new disc?...they were like...uh! NO! that's not OUR responsibility...try the seller! I was like...NO! that IS your responsibility...why should the seller have to wipe your a**e, 'cos your shiftin' dodgy, sub-standard gear? accept YOUR responsibilty. We got no further, and I still have the disc. And it still grates me when it cuts off.
There are better compilations out there, and better still full albums of these and other talented artists. My advice dig a bit deeper. Love and respect to the musicians contained on the CDs.

Listen to Your Ear's Delight.......2001-08-07

I bought this CD on a whim and was immediately blown away by what I discovered! The opening track on Part I, "Milo," by Trilok Gurtu, is a spellbinding fusion of East and West, featuring smooth piano phrases interspersed with hauntingly fluid female vocals. Part II contains exciting melanges of Urban Hip Hop and Indian Pop, with "Dil Cheez" revealing just how much contemporary pop music is shattering previous cultural boundaries. I recommend this to anyone looking for aural adventures that their feet and heart can enjoy.
