It's okay - I was spoiled by Spiritual, Fiesta Fatal, Sensual etcetera. While I can use the music in my massage practice, it doesn't inspire me the way Spiritual did. Maybe it will grow on me with more plays.

5 out of 5 stars Zen & Fire.......2007-05-09

Another Great CD from B-Tribe. In ways I hear Enigma and other artist, but when the last song is played you still know that B-Tribe is playing and that your either dancing to the beat or relaxing to it. I just can't get enought of them. The song "She moves through the fair" is just an example of what they can do to your soul and body. I just need to buy one more of their cd's and then look forward to buying more.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone!!!.......2007-04-09

This is my first review I have written on Amazon and I chose to make this album the one because it is far and away the best album I have in my collection now. I have all of Enigma's works, most of Delerium's, all of Enya's, all of B-tribe's, and others like Era, Pangea, Erotic Moods, Bella Sonus,Amethystium, and others I can't think of right off hand. This album instantly went to number one rotation on the old CD changer. Plus I had to make a copy for each car and put it on my MP3 player I love it so much. I am so tired of all these groups that come along trying to be like early Enigma and using techno beats over chanting that sounds so much like something someone just threw together, where the beats don't even sound like they fit the chant (most of Era's songs for instance). This album is so much superior to all of their other works, although there are several songs on their other albums that I like, none of the albums are as great from start to finish as this one. This album definately needs to be experienced with quality speakers in a room with the lights off and a comfortable chair the first time. I cannot say enough about this one, although I am worried that by making such a raving review I may make someone's expectations extraordinarally high, but I cannot say enough.

5 out of 5 stars Different Place!.......2007-04-01

As my appetite for music changes in tandum of my age,i find b-tribe more and more intriguing and this CD is no doubt one of their best albums bar none.

The music is a mix of Spanish guitar with haunting voices and new age like beats. This music has put us listeners in a different place, a place where stress, hardship, bills, and bills do not even exist, only their music exists and guides us to that perfect place!

4 out of 5 stars Upbeat and relaxing.......2007-01-15

I've been a huge fan of B-Tribe since the early 90's and I've owned each of their albums, starting with !Fiesta Fatal! This album seems to reflect the maturity and refinement of B-Tribe since it combines the typical, upbeat Spanish influence they are well known for along with the softer elements of jazz and contemporary instrumental music. I truly enjoy every song on this album, however there are two reasons why I'm not giving it a 5 star rating: it's a little too short and the woman's vocals on a couple of the songs can be a little annoying at times. I really wish they would have used Debra Blando again since Luna's voice seems a little out of sync at times. Don't let that discourage you from purchasing this cd since it really is very good and after all this is only my opinion :)

5 out of 5 stars Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

5 out of 5 stars Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

5 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

3 out of 5 stars Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

4 out of 5 stars It's worth buying.......2007-03-08

I bought this CD for the Slash piece that is included. I liked each and every piece in this CD, and the only reason it gets 4 stars rather than 5 is because all pieces are quite similar. There are no significant variations in the mood or sound between them, so it can get a tiny bit boring by the time you reach the end of it. Great for background music.

5 out of 5 stars Rare compilation of great music.......2007-01-11

The disk is packed with great music, some of which is genuinely rare to find (such as Slash of Guns'n'Roses playing Obsession Confession), and others might serve as a good introduction to well-established artists (such as Jesse Cook, or Armik)

The disc's cover art is a masterpiece in its own right, and is a great introduction to the works of painter, dancer and a great man...
(find out who this man is when you get the disc in your hands!!!)

I believe the disc to be a limited edition thing - I don't think they continually produce it - so hurry up!

5 out of 5 stars Gypsy Soul.......2006-11-06

I needed "world" music for a class I am taking. My kids had been playing Slash's(Guns & Roses)Obsession Confession, so I figured at least for me, this would be a somewhat painless foray into the unknown.

This album is breathtaking. The music is passionate and emotional. I find it difficult to stop listening, and the more I listen the more involved I become. Each time I play this album I hear something different, and my favorites change regularly.

The artists are obviously masters. There is none of that squealing and screeching on the strings that one hears so often on guitar work.

I guess the best thing I can say is that each song takes you on a journey and the listener can write their own story.

If this is your first listen to this genre, Gypsy Soul is a perfect choice.

5 out of 5 stars Great music, no matter what you call it!.......2006-03-07

As I understand it, some purists would not call this Flamenco music of any kind, but it is wonderful and energizing to listen to nonetheless. The level of virtuosity on guitar displayed on this album is really incredible, and the delightful variety of songs is really nice. As a degreed musician and professional harpist, I have a tremendous respect for the level of musicianship demonstrated on this album. This is my first sampling of "New Flamenco" music, but it certainly will not be my last. A big plus for me is that it is all instrumental, so I'm not tempted to sing along, much to the relief of my fellow bus riders and coworkers!

3 out of 5 stars Gypsy Soul is OK.......2006-02-27

I have other gypsy/flamenco CDs, and purchased this one based on some other reviewers comments (on the other CDs). I prefer the CD Gypsy Passion over this one by a wide margin.

5 out of 5 stars The Soul of Spain.......2007-08-05

This is an excellent CD. The 101 Strings Orchestra really captures the sounds and 'soul' of Spain. Highly recommend this CD to all who enjoy Spanish style music.

5 out of 5 stars A lot of Spanish heart and soul in this one.......2007-01-04

If you're looking for some orchestral music of Spain, this would be an excellent choice. Many familiar and/or popular arrangements may be found on this CD. In fact, I've now bought two copies since the first one ended up going to a friend who is into ballroom dancing. More than a few pieces contained on this CD are good for that!

Although the albumn indicates 101 strings, classic spanish brass and guitar accompany the 101 violins, violas and cellos on some of the songs.

5 out of 5 stars Simply wonderful music!.......2006-06-22

If a person likes Spanish and Latin music, they will love this one. I highly recommended this CD.

5 out of 5 stars A Real Gift.......2006-04-10

I own the original LP from 1959 on Somerset and this must have been one of the first LP's with real stereo sound. On this
original LP there were 6 themes all together and I regularly
listened to it during the past 45 years because it is a beauty.
It faithfully reflects the authentic Spanish flavour although
most of the musical pieces are from not Spanish composers.
Thanks to Amazon I found out it now exists on CD and of course
bought it immediatley with 8 extra themes. I never knew that
the 101 Strings had recorded a second album of the Soul of Spain
so I consider this CD a real gift.

4 out of 5 stars For Harry Arnold.......2005-12-05

I have the original Vol II for The Soul of Spain and there are a few songs not on the CD: Cantina Toreros, The Breeze and I and Matador. I will purcase the CD, but I am sorry some of the songs are not repeated on the CD. I can't seem to find my Vol I.
Thanks for the good review. I will try to find someone who can make a copy of the vinyl to cd form.

5 out of 5 stars Mercy, what an ocean........2007-02-16

Innocence, purity, exuberance and sweetness is Jaya Lakshmi...the album is a musical Lotus Blossom that celebrates harmony and devotion.

4 out of 5 stars Ocean Of Mercy, Jaya Lakshmi's first Album..........2006-10-01

I enjoy this album immensely.
However I like her newer album, Jewel of Hari much much better. and the funny thing is that these albums both grew on me, kind of crept up over a period of time. In fact when I first bought Jewel of Hari I actually hated it. No I really hated it. I don't know why, it was just one of those strong first impressions. But what is weird is that I listed it to sell on Amazon, and by the time I had a buyer, I popped it back into the CD player for a listen, and lo and behold, i loved it. So of course I had to ship it out. But I copied some of the songs to my computer. I ended up loving the songs soooo much over time, that I had to go out and get the album again, and this one as well.
This is her first album. What a spirited Woman musician. She went against all odds, traveling with her young daughter, a single parent, singing to her guru, and totally emersing herself in Divine Bliss, in the Ocean of Mercy. Smiles to this album.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet voice.......2006-08-13

If you enjoy chanting and Kirtan, then this is a great CD to purchase. Jaya Lakshmi has a sweet voice, a voice like and angel. This is a great CD for yoga,(I'm a yoga instructor), even massage, or just plain relaxing.

5 out of 5 stars Not Just For A Devotee.......2005-03-21

I would like to think that if something similar to this was first chanted thousands of years ago, it was done with the same soul-filled passion that Jaya Lakshmi does it with. Her beautiful voice and spiritual fervor blend together for a truly unique musical and mystical experience. The music is performed flawlessly, as English mixes with what I think is Sanskrit, in this lovely and moving piece.

Your sweet face
is like a million suns
flooding my mind

Oh You have captured me
with your beauty
now this heart
is no longer mine

~from Ocean Of Mercy

Fans of music from India are sure to love this. The often upbeat melody, that at times seems almost modern, will also appeal to anyone that is interested in hearing well played music from another culture. The sublime voice of Jaya Lakshmi becomes almost ethereal as she reminds me of a beautiful gopi dancing the Rasa.

5 out of 5 stars It's about devotion.......2005-02-12

Mr. Anderberg obviously doesn't realize that the single focus of this album is the love and adoration of Krishna, not the prattling of "subjects in any way related to eastern religion" that he seems to think it is about. If he wants to call adoration of God "drivel, pure and simple", well, that's his business. I think he totally missed the point. The whole record is devotional--pure, loving, and sexy.

Album Description

Spanish Soul is a complete guitar oriented album. It uses live percussion and hip hop style drum loops to create a new effect in acoustic Spanish guitar music. The musical styles on this album are as varied as the musicians featured. Spanish Soul has a definite Spanish flavor, but it also includes jazz stylings such as Sweet Samba & Anniversary Song, Middle Eastern melodies such as Aya Sofia & Mediterranean Nights and Rhythm and Blues tunes such as Little Buddha. In addition there are quite a few tunes that will fit the in between categories. The 1st Track Malaguea is a fresh new dance version of the original Spanish Malaguea. The Title Track Spanish Soul is a romantic Ballad with the warm sounds of the Flugel Horn. El Camino Real combines the Rumba Flamenca rhythms with a Samba rhythm track while Serenade is a pure Guitar Jazz ballad that features a duet of the Spanish nylon string guitar and the warm sounds of a Gibson ES-175. The remix of Today & Tomorrow now starts as a Blues Ballad that develops into a Spanish/Jazz style. Then there are songs such as Shiraz, that would fall more into the "raw energy" middle eastern sounds category, while East of Spain features the mystic sounds of an English Horn. Last but not least there is the mellow Guitar Ballad Days Gone By and the hip hop/Spanish style composition Song for Nima that defies any category.

I had never heard of this musician but ran across him on mp3. I was looking for mombo music and stumbled across this gem. I fell in love with this exotic sound. Too bad I can only twirl around the living room and pretend. But the music is a fantasy brought to life in the hands of an extradordinary musician! Thank you Stefan!

Stefan was good when he was with La Vienta, but now he is even better. The tracks on this album are an incredible fusion of Jazz & Flamenco. Want to hear a true samba, check out sweet samba. This CD is a must!

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!.......2002-10-31

Passion & Soul overwhelms with passages so beautiful, it's nearly impossible not to get swept up in the emotion, drama and joys forged by its master guitarist and cellist. Pyrotechnics be damned; this is music that doesn't waste one note to impress, but fills every measure to resonate long after the listener powers off the CD player. Film Music supervisors would do well to give this a listen for the sheer lyrical beauty of the mood inspiring melodies of "Ida Y Vuelta" and the truly breathtaking closing piece, "Paternera."

    5 out of 5 stars Ole!.......2002-06-18

Gino D'Auri is Italian, but of Rom (Gypsy) descent. As the title promises, this CD is full of passion and soul as well as technical excellence. As D'Auri says in the liner notes, Flamenco is not just a lot of notes played really fast but the feeling the music imparts. This music conveys the Gypsy passion and soul, the joy and the pain, to perfection. Beautiful!

    5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece!!!.......2001-06-09

This CD is one of the best guitar oriented music in my collection!!! It is even better than D'Auri's previous release "Flamenco Mystico". The music is mainly the traditional flamenco guitar with modern touch, and some excellent cello works are added. The combination of flamenco and cello is extraordinary!!! The music is moody, soothing, and uplifting in some moments. Extremely beautiful!!!
