About the Artist
Born in Tatanagar India, Rajasree Mukherjee is an Honors graduate in Zoology from Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata. She trained in Rabindra Sangeet from Padmasree Suchitra Mitra and ranked first class first in her Diploma examination from Rabi Tirtha School of Music, Kolkata. She is a double graduate in Indian music. Ranked second in Rabindra Sangeet all India basis, in her Sangeet Prabhakar graduation examination conducted by Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. In 1975 she toured and performed in USA & Canada with Suchitra Mitra. She later did her second graduation in Indian music, securing the Sangeet Visharad degree from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh.

A gifted singer, she has held numerous concerts in Kenya, Tanzania, India & USA and wrote lyrics for over 120 film & non-film songs and recorded leading playback singers like Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Anuradha Paudwal, Abhijit, Vinod Rathod, Mohamed Aziz, Shailendra Singh etc.

She moved to Nairobi, Kenya in 1990 and founded Ma Sharda School of Music which produced several singers of International repute. Today she has over 500 students spread out in Australia, India, Tanzania, Kenya, UK & USA. She is three time recipient of Government of India Grant for promotion of Indian culture abroad and in February 2002 received an award in recognition of her outstanding contribution from the High Commission of India. The award was presented by the Vice President of Kenya Prof. George Saitoti. Rajasree composed a special number in honour of the President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam which she sang to a full house at the Aga Khan Auditorium in Daressalaam during the President's visit to Tanzania in September 2004.

In consultation with the reputed Guru of Indian Music, Pandit Shyamal Lahiri, she has created this ensemble using traditional Indian instruments like the Sitar, Flute and Tabla to effectively silence the mind and start you on the journey of dissipating the sands of the restive mind and reaching the tranquil waters of bliss that lie within.

Select a quiet place or a comfortable corner of the room, dim the lights and sit in a relaxed posture keeping the back straight. Switch on the music and try to empty your mind of all thoughts. All kinds of thoughts will rush through the mind. Just become a witness, do not try to analyze or pass judgment, let the thoughts pass as fleeting clouds.

Let the body respond to the music without interference of the mind. Do not have any pre-conceived ideas of the effect of the music on your body – just sit back, relax and let the music flow through your body. Remember, no two individuals can have the exact same feelings or body movements – we are all different and each is supposed to have a unique experience.

This Album Differs from the Mainstream Classical Canon in that Amjad Has Decided to Dispense with the Long, Slow Build Up of the Normal Raga Form, Cutting the Tracks to Enable the Western Public to See Into the Heart of the Tunes Without Having to Know Too Much About the Formal Structure of the Tradition.

Read this before buying.......2005-12-03

Anything Amjad Ali Khan releases is a gem. However, this album isn't a traditional classical performance as in it's shortened versions made for people unfamiliar with Indian Classical Music. It is a good album to begin to understand some of indian music but is not a lengthy raga which i would prefer. Probably my favorite Amjad Ali Khan album is the one released on Moment Records which is also on this site called, Amjad Ali Khan and Zakir Hussain. That is a great record. So, if you want something with shorter pieces that quickly get to the heart of the song, then buy this. If you want a great rendering of a raga, buy the other one. If you have the cash, buy both. Enjoy.

Atlanta locals songwriter Cooper Seay and bassist Jan Dykes gave birth to Viva La Diva in late 1993 after the demise of Seay's well-recognized underground band, "The Ellen James Society", earlier that year. Dykes, an EJS bassist during its early days, and Seay, guitarist and singer, met in 1981 during their high school days at a viewing of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". Throughout the '80s, Seay and Dykes played in various bands, together and apart, when they finally established EJS in 1987. After the band broke up in early 1993, Seay and Dykes began jamming and writing together once again. Soon they joined forces with lead guitarist Candi Jiosne and drummer Wayne Glass, creating Viva La Diva, a band which has followed in the footsteps of Ellen James Society with a handful of obsessively devoted fans and many intrigued on-lookers. To this date, the band has released a split single on Readymade Records (shared with Daemon recording artists Belloluna) and in November 1995, Viva La Diva's first full length CD, "Greatest Hits Volume 1" was released on the Moksha label of Austin, TX. Most Viva La Diva fans admit that from the moment they first saw the band live, they were hooked not only on the music, but on the great presentation. Viva La Diva demands the crowd's attention and quickly earns it. As frontwoman, Seay easily fills any room with her astounding stage presence; she will employ any sort of antic to draw attention to the band. No member formulates the chemistry for Viva La Diva alone, however, as the interactions between the musicians create an entertaining presentation.
