About the Artist
For Lorenza, the greatest aspect of her professional success has been the opportunity to travel around the globe, experiencing foreign places and cultures first hand. In addition to Sheryl Crow and John Tesh, Lorenza also toured with Japanese superstar Kitaro, and pop band Ben Folds Five. She feels that "through extensive traveling, a person gains the understanding that all people are fundamentally the same. They all desire love, companionship, belief in a higher entity, and something better for their children." It is from these universal themes that Lorenza found the inspiration for her new record. "The song 'Ruby' is about an incredible little girl I met while on tour," explains Lorenza. "You could tell she was an old soul. She had an aura of love around her that was passed on to everyone she met, I just had to write a song about her. Lorenza goes on to explain the song "Beloved". "It was written during a very lonely period when I was away from my family and fri! ends for a long stretch of time. I just let all my emotions pour out onto tape on my portable recording studio that I always carry with me. What came out was so dark, but so compelling, that I felt I needed to close the record with it."

Lorenza also found inspiration from some of the funnier moments of her tours. "I wrote 'The Vision' after our tour bus got stuck in a blizzard in the Swiss Alps. We were stuck there for 9 hours, watching the snow whirl around us. I observed the band's reaction go from shock, to apprehension ,to resignation, and finally to enjoyment without guilt. We ate what we had on the bus - wine, chocolate, and lasagne and went out and played in the snow. I'll never forget it."

Having written, arranged and co-produced the record herself, Lorenza Ponce is more than a travelogue of her experiences. It is most strikingly a showcase of her classical violin and vocal technique, as well as her ease at embracing elements of pop, and world music. A resident of New York City, Lorenza has taken full advantage of the city's richly diverse music scene, and as a result, has developed a reputation as a sought-after session musician. In addition to Sheryl Crow , John Tesh, Kitaro, and Ben Folds Five, Lorenza has performed on stage alongside Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Nicks, and Deborah Harry of Blondie. Lorenza is also a much-in-demand session musician and has appeared on albums by artists as diverse as Tricky, Jon Anderson of Yes, Stevie Nicks, Silverchair, Kitaro, John Tesh, Sheryl Crow, and Ben Folds Five.

The public has been quick to notice Lorenza's talents. The Boston Globe singled her out while on tour with Kitaro and wrote "the group's standout was violinist Lorenza Ponce, a classically trained talent whose playing...was spellbinding." Of her performance with Sheryl Crow they wrote that her playing, " added a simpatico poignancy and power." The St. Petersburg Times wrote of her performance with John Tesh that, "Ponce is a violin virtuoso, plucking her strings while singing on the ethereal Canta Domine." The L.A. Times Syndicate called her first solo album "captivating" and went on to say, " Imago smoothly blends elements of rock, jazz and world music. In Ponce's eclectic universe, a stately passage can segue into a bouncy banjo.

I really like this CD - it is easy to listen to. Good background music, and I have loved listening to White Bird since the early 70s - Her version of the song is terrific.

Superb,As afollow up to imago,this is just as excellant,with the majority of tracks including vocals,proves the versatile talent of lorenzas remarkable musical abillities,Dont be put off by vocals for she as a truly beautiful angelic voice,BUY IT,you wont be dissappointed.I so wished she was better known outside the USA ,so many others could enjoy her beautiful music.

Lorenza Ponce has 2 disks available now, Mystic Fiddler, and Imago. Both are exactly what I wanted in a modern violin album. How can I explain how her music feels? How's this.. Picture yourself sitting in a warm chalet on a lake in the middle of winter. It's night time, the fire is going, the lights are dim, your there with a loved one and your sitting by the fire with a good book. What type of music would you like for a beautiful background sound? Something soft, soothing, and very beautiful. That's what Mystic Fiddler sounds like to me.

a brilliant album!just like all her others buy this i can assure you youll be hooked,this title may have more vocal tracks but dont be put off as Lorenzas voice is so beautiful,not only is she a talented musician,but vocalist to ,if you like heavenly female vocals you cant go wrong with Lorenza,if i had to pick a best track it would propably be "white Bird",but all are outstanding compositions,not to be missed.

Stunning global soundscapes. Her sound is very exotic. My favorite tracks are Love Leads and Saved, but all the other tracks are good as well. Highly recommended

I listened to it again (and again!). Of the 12 songs, 8 have vocals and the remaining 4 are instrumental. I had indicated about 6 each in my earlier comments. Still a wonderful CD!

Buy this CD.......2001-09-19

I got this CD about a month ago and cannot stop listening to it. My brother lives in NYC and met Lorenza and recommended this CD. Lorenza's style is very relaxing and soothing, yet this is NOT elevator music or "smooth jazz". About half of the songs have Lorenza's lilting vocals, and the other half are pure instrumental. I also have several CDs from Kitaro and Sarah McLachlan (she has toured with both), and if you enjoy either Kitaro's relaxing keyboards or Sarah's beautiful voice, you will enjoy Lorenza Ponce's Mystic Fiddler. This CD is a wonderful combination of good vocals, insightful lyrics, along with relaxing and beautiful music. We would do well to have more artists as talented as Lorenza...
