Good, but nothing too special........2007-06-14

I used to like this album a lot, but my tastes in music has changed. I'm not going to say this is a bad album. I think it is their best effort. They went from hardcore to pop punk to emo pop. Like I said this isn't a bad album, but it isn't something to write home about. There are a few good tracks, but nothing to stick out that is considered amazing. I'll admit though that the lead singer should consider doing an acoustic career because every acoustic Keepsake song is their best. If you like old Keepsake, this isn't for you, if you are looking for new music, go for it, but you honestly will move on from this album in a few weeks.

Different........2007-05-06

I first got into Keepsake by their third album, "Black Dress In A B Movie". It was a pretty good album. I decided to venture into their back catalogue and I bought "The Things I Would Say". And all I'll say is wow, this isn't anything like their third effort. The lyrics are some what dark and I hate to say it but this is a screamo album. Almost every song has vocals done by screaming. As for the music it is very heavy, a lot of thrashing guitars. An alright album but not their best effort in my eyes.

a lovely start.......2002-07-10

i was shocked to find this cd in a used bin at my local records store, and even more shocked when i played it on the way home. keepsake tests waters on this cd that they probably never will again, with some intensely angry songs and very powerful lyrics. they have certainly moved on from this record, but it was the perfect place to start. i wouldn't ever call keepsake a 'heavy' band, but this is their heaviest album. every song on this record reminds me that keepsake could have done anything they wanted with this record, but put forth the effort to create something that is very beautiful, and at the same time very distrubing.

THIS BAND TRULY ROCKS.......2001-08-17

This is a very unusual and talented band. They have a dynamic sound that combines driving, screaming rhythm and sensitive, beautiful acoustic ballades. The words are really heartfelt. Occasionally they scream, which really gets the blood boiling. The lead singer is dynamite. You should definitely check this band out.

a powerful band packed with emotions of love and anger.......2001-01-18

Keepsake is one of the best bands out there. Some people like to call them screamo (screaming emo) because they perfectly blend hardcore and emo together, to creat a sound that you have never heard before. They can start a song off all slow and nice, and the next second they start screaming and jamming. it's amazing! "The Things I Would Say" is definitely one of my favorite albums. It is hard to compare keepsake to any other band, because their sound is so unique. Pick this up today, you won't be sorry!

Definately a Keepsake.......2001-01-17

Third Wish, the opener, starts out fast and furiously, justifying the 1-877-punk-xxx number on the inside of the cd. The rocking guitars continue until the verse/chorus, when the words become intelligible. The lyrics are basic emo lyrics and the softer, melodic guitar sounds great. As the cd progresses, the band generally keeps up with their heavy guitar and lyrics, with the breaks for melodic singing. On a few tracks, such as Infinity Road and One Season Too Late, the band adopts a Spanish sounding guitar. All in all, the cd is a great rocking album, with the exception of One Season Too Late, which is their attempt at acoustic softer style. Frankly, they fail. The lyrics are always moving and the guitar can easily get your blood flowing, I highly recommend.

Jerry Barlow is also a consummate performer, so if you ever get the chance to hear him play, don't pass it up! His music conjures the image of a totally intense artist, but he surprises everyone with an immensely engaging personality. He is at once talented, humorous, comforting, likeable. Ultimately Jerry "connects" with audience members...giving each the feeling of somehow having participated in the performance.

Amazing talent.......2002-03-04

Jerry Barlow's "Keepsake" is a superb acustic recording. Excellent quality of the music and clarity of the recording. This artist is clearly a highly skilled experienced performer. Barlow is one of these musical artist whoes music defies easy discrption, yet is so satisfying that it doesn't seem to matter. There are so many "successful" non-talents racking in the riches, while true virtuosos like Barlow are less recognized. If there was any justice he would be highly rewarded for his work. I hope he is both financially and with well deserved self satisfaction for making great music. Buy this CD and tell your friends or better yet play it for them...

"Keepsake" by Jerry Barlow, is one of my all-time favorite CDs, when I can get it away from my wife. We heard Jerry play at an Irish Festival a couple of years ago, and she hustled me right up to the stage afterward to see if he had a CD. She drags me to hear Jerry in person nearly every time he plays. I'd get jealous, but she takes me along and I get to hear the great music too.

Jerry Barlow is amazingly expressive with his music. He brings me back to my Celtic roots time and again with his exquisite stylings and astounds me with his effortless grace on the guitar. The addition of Ted Cole playing flute on some of the tracks makes it even more special, as Ted and Jerry seem to have a common soul for this type of music.

If you've ever heard of Celtic fingerstyle guitar, you'll want to own this CD, as Jerry is one of the masters of this style. If you haven't, then you'll definitely want it as an introduction to this beautifully moving type of music. Jerry's fingers just seem to float over the instrument, stroking the most incredible music to life with each pass, until you're enraptured by the power and beauty of it.

Comfort music.......2001-12-30

The album called Keepsake, by Jerry Barlow, is one of my top five favorites, and I own a lot of CDs! I reach for Keepsake when I'm down and need comforting, when I want to feel creative or spiritual, and when I need to relax and think. In summer, I also put it through my outside speakers so that I can listen to it as I garden.

Rite of Passage, Keepsake, Inisheer, The Kiss, The Sound of Sleat, Angel Dawn and Today, are my favorite pieces on this album.

I'm amazed at how Jerry Barlow's guitar touches so many emotions in my soul. Jerry has wonderful intuition when it comes to choosing pieces that please and the pure sound of his guitar is conducive to introspective thought and meditation.

I'm also impressed by the mix of instrumentation. I'm a big fan of the bodhran and flute and I enjoy the drum in the Rite of Passage.

Thank you Jerry for this fine piece of work and I eagerly await your next album. I also think I better buy another copy of the Keepsake CD because I misplaced it once and was in a panic until I located it in the car's CD player!

Ms. Resick sings in German, Polish, French, Swedish, and Italian, in this two-CD tour-de-force which presents a superb selection of works and composers rarely heard today. The great flowering of the song cycle occurred in early nineteenth century Germany, with its greatest representations being the well-known cycles by Schubert and Schumann. These cycles inspired numerous imitations, many of which, while not attaining the depth and breadth of their models, are charming and integrated works. Average customer rating: a beautiful title for a nightmarish album She Hums Like a Radio Keepsake Manufacturer: Eulogy Recordings ProductGroup: Music Binding: Audio CD General | Alternative Rock | Styles | Music General | Rock | Styles | Music Pop Rock | Pop | Styles | Music Similar Items: The End of Sound The Things I Would Say ASIN: B000056PFS Release Date: 2000-10-17 Customer Reviews: a beautiful title for a nightmarish album.......2001-12-20 my friend listens to a lot of emo. he listens to so much emo that it is very hard to pick out bands from each other at times. bands like jimmy eat world, brandtson, juliana theory, to name a few. however, keepsake was a short ep that i was able to pick up on quickly and immediately realize that these guys are incredible. the cd starts out with the title track, which is a very poppy upbeat song. it has plenty of moving percussion beats, and powerful riffs, accented by the singer's vocals, which range from a child-like song to a terrifying scream. it is followed by the less-than-happy "the alcohol diary", a dark song, but certainly not the darkest. the guitar work on this, to me, is the best on the cd, especially on the spoken word part...but maybe that is just me. the rest of the cd, "sweet white lies", "one season too late", and "the art of collapsing" are all beautiful looks into this emo-core band from florida. while this isn't their first album, it was the one that introduced me to them. i purchased their newest album, "the end of sound", and while many people have said rather mean things about the sudden change in lyric writing and the move to more noticably upbeat songs, i feel that the new cd is definitely worth a look too. granted, it doesn't have the angst or the harshness that is the dark cloud over "she hums like a radio", but in any matter, i look forward to this band producing more amazing work. they just signed on a new record label, fearless records, and their next release is due early in 2002. so please, by all means, check this cd out.
