Product Description
'Brazilian Love Affair 4' is part of the world's leading Brazilian music series compiled by the UK's premier Brazilian DJ and aficionado and head of Far Out Records, Joe Davis. Far Out is one of the world's leading Brazilian labels with an influence on Brazilian music most labels based in Rio would die for. Joe fills us in:
"Brazilian Love Affair is a good summary of all the styles and current trends of Brazilian music and therefore Far Out's roster. On Volume 4 you've got the classic, contemporary sounds of Brazil from Far Out artists Marcos Valle, Joyce, and Azymuth, as well as the more electronic dance side that we release on 12" such as Democustico, 4 Hero, and Osunlade's remix of Grupo Batuque. I think that Brazilian music makes excellent chill out music too because it's very melancholic...it has complex chord structures and harmonies bursting with soul and melody."
'Brazilian Love Affair 4' also includes forgotten gems unearthed by Joe on his 80th trip to Brazil and cuts from Patricia Marx, Max de Castro and Jairzinho Oliveira all signed to Brazilian label Trama.
This is as authentic a picture of Brazilian music you will find. As Joe says; "I know of supposed "Brazilian" compilations that don't even have one Brazilian artist on them. Every track on this compilation has either been made by a Brazilian or produced in Brazil. Imagine if in Brazil someone released a compilation of UK music with just Brazilian artists on... it would be a sham. 'Brazilian Love Affair 4 is the real deal."

Quality Cuts on a Quality Label.......2004-12-03
This one, the fourth, was pretty strong and had some real quality cuts on it. It starts out with Patricia Marx slow jam which features Joao Parahyba (think Suba/Trio Mocoto) that was popular in summer of 2002 then follows up with a sort of jazzy track by Azymuth with Sabrina Melheiros (is it her husband that's with Mamond?)... although admittedly that wasn't a song that really got me. The remix to "Na Batida do Agogo" followed and it is a pretty cool cut (Grupo Batuque), you can hear it on Brazilution 5. Other cool cuts on this one were Joyce's harmonic "Todos Os Santos", Democustico's sitar laden xinga filled "A Sereia", a soulful percussion heavy track by Nature's Plan, and the cd winds down with a vintage take of Vera Cruz by Vox Populi. Also - Mamond's "Preguiciman" is included - that's a cut another great track with guitar solos and a nice little bossa beat.
All in all, I definitely recommend this release - much like I recommend all 5 of the Brazilian Love Affair CD's. This label that features such great artists from the old school and new school, like Troubleman, Joyce, Os Ipanemas, Azymuth, Marcos Valle and several others, knows how to put out some great music! The quality of the cuts makes up for it being just one disc - a few other series, like Brazilectro, Nova Latino, etc. are all double disc sets. If you dig this, be sure to check Kenny Dope's "Brazilika", a tribute to Far Out recordings, and Brazilution 5.2. Also, you might want to check out some of the label's individual artist's.
