Customer Reviews:
Uncomparable dramatic power.......2004-12-12
Well, maybe comparable to Edith Piaf, perhaps, but not to any US artist that i know of. Find a Polish friend to translate the lyrics for you, they are as beautiful and mind-blowing as the singing. These songs are about 40 years old, if i am not mistaken--and they will last!
... and the words are excellent to match!.......2004-09-24
The other reviewer (Florin Coter) got it quite right. This is mighty powerful music. Even without understanding the words, it can touch the heart, cut to the bone, and uplift the soul. Styles range across compositions that would sound at home on albums labeled New Age, Jazz, Punk, and Psychedelic (a la Jefferson Airplane.) I *do* understand some of the lyrics, derived from the work of Polish poets, and their power matches the might of the music. A sample from Pocalunki (Kisses): "You love me more than life... You told me so yourself... Last year. ... ... I haven't seen you in a month... ... So... You see... One can live... Without... Air." In my opinion, all of the songs on this album are good, most are excellent, and several are superb. I have one other album by this artist ("Live") that also contains some good songs, and some live versions of songs found on this album. However, this is the album I would recommend for this compelling Polish artist--and for any lover of interesting, evocative music.
Music making beyond words.......2002-05-14
This kind of musical making (composition, interpretation, etc.) is in my opinion beyond words, at least words I know. It has a terrifying power of penetration, equaled by few: Brel, Barbara, Lhasa, maybe. I am not lucky enough to understand the words, but this did not prevent me from feeling my flesh being burnt and my bones exposed. The voice has the clarity of a mountain spring and the power of Amazon river flow. Nothing can stop it and no feeling is beyond its power of expression.
Reading my own words leaves me with poor feeling of missing it. Just let yourself consumed by this music. This is my total appreciation of the artist and her art.
