Wonderful blues compilation - especially Mick Taylor!.......2007-02-07
An Obscure Brit-Blues Classic.......2006-09-21
Knights of the Blues Table is not a run-of-the-mill blues compilation,it is an ambitious overview of the talent of some of the best of the British Blues scene. Some of these guys like Jack Bruce, Georgie Fame, TS McPhee, Peter Green, and Nigel Watson I am very familiar with, others, like Mick Jagger's brother Chris I didn't know about at all.
My favorites here are Jack Bruce's rousing rendition of Send For Me, Georgie Fame's smoky, keyboard infused If You Live, the hilarious Racketeer Blues featuring the Jagger brothers, Pete Brown's hot take on Rocks In My Bed, TS McPhee's unforgettable Drop Down Mama, Clem Clempson's high voltage take on I've Got News For You, and the rollicking Paul Jones/Otis Grand medley of Play On Little Girl and T-Bone Shuffle. And while several other reviewers cited Blind Man as a favorite, to me its the least memorable song in this compilation.
So if you are a blues fan on any level, then this obscure Brit-blues classic deserves a place in your collection. You will not be disappointed!
Blues at it's Best.......2005-04-25
Stellar performances from established stars like Jack Bruce and Georgie Fame as well as unheard of talents like Miller Anderson (?). Most surprising, this CD contains the first step from Peter Green to return back to the stagelights.
My personal favorites the version of "Blind Man" by Maggie and Big Jim Sullivan and the outstanding performance of "Time Below Zero" by the group Nine Below Zero.
Excellent booklet gives a detailed background on the performers. My only disappointment, volume 2 was never produced.
True Tribute to Early British Blues.......2003-05-10
It's pretty hard to quibble with this all-star assembly who play with fervor and joy throughout. British Blues buffs will have a great time just studying the lineup and noting which bands this who's who line-up played with through the years. Mr. Brown made sure all styles of British Blues are represented, so the songs range from acoustic blues moans to high-energy foot stompers. There are no mailed-in or smoothed out performances here (hence, you won't find Clapton sitting in).
There's a great performance by Maggie Bell on Blind Man's Blues, a sizzling take on Judgment Day by Pretty Things, one of the early comeback recordings of Peter Green, Chris Jagger's romp through Racketeer Blues (with his brother Mick contributing some fine harmonica), and Jack Bruce nearly bringing down the house on Send for Me. Plus, Mr. Brown shuns his reclusive ways long enough to add vocals to Rocks in My Bed, and he somehow found a home recording of KC Moan performed by Cyril Davies from the `50s.
The whole session is a tribute, in the true sense, to blues legends Cryril Davies and Alexis Korner. There is none of the false aftertaste that comes with a corporate compilation. It's side to see these CDs selling for so little on the used market, for, like good whiskey, this CD only gets better with age.

Simply BRILLIANT!.......2006-06-18
This genious lyric came true as I listened to this heaven sent masterpiece. The simple melodic beauty of the songs are poetry to my tattered soul. I danced and I cried and I rejoyced as I felt years of hurt and heartbreak peel away like layers on an onion. The is not just a Compact Disc...it's a life changing experience. Plus, Susan Cypher is a hottie.
