Amazon.com essential recording
Proclaiming his intentions with "Are You Ready for the Country?" Young detoured briefly to the Nashville mainstream. On this No. 1 1972 album, even the singer's acquired-taste voice comes across smooth and beautiful--the smash "Heart of Gold," with steel guitars and Linda Ronstadt's backup vocals, is by far Young's most commercial-sounding song. His usual dissonant touches, like the otherworldly guitar in "Out on the Weekend," are less spooky in this new context. The last two tracks, the deceptively gentle "The Needle and the Damage Done" and the hypnotic rocker "Words (Between the Lines of Age)," predict "Tonight's the Night," Young's haunted 1975 classic. --Steve KnopperCustomer Reviews:

more Neil.......2007-08-02
Anyway, I really like most of the songs on the album. The title song is a catchy little country number, "Heart of Gold" even has a "golden" atmosphere to it, doesn't it? Really special song, not to mention an unforgettable classic. It NEVER gets old. I used to love "Old Man" but thanks to the radio overplaying it, not anymore.
"Words (Between the Lines of Age)" is the best song on the entire album, in my opinion. Something about the depressing piano work really gets to me, and puts me in a focused, though negative state. "Out on the Weekend" is another country-sounding, yet entirely catchy little song. A record focused on vocal melodies.
"Are You Ready for the Country" is kind of filler-ish, and "There's a World" is definitely pure filler because it's not interesting to me personally. Not a big fan of "A Man Needs a Main" either, though the lyrics are pretty cool. The best two songs appear at the end. Besides "Words", there's "Alabama" and the rather unusual sounding "Needle and the Damage Done".
Overall, not Neil Young's best, but worth owning. Don't write it off just because it was a commercial success.
Folk-esque classic.......2007-07-15
This 1972 album is probabely his best.
Starting with the laidback Out On The Weekend and going on to the title track labum, and the melancholy wailing of A Man Needs A Maid.
Then possibly his best known song of loneliness and heartache- Heart of Gold.
Then there is the contemplative song of youth and age - Old Man.
Neil Diamond was another classic of the forever memorable 70's and anybody who loves folk will want this in their collection.

When Neil Young seems about to zig, he zags. Two years after 1990's loud Ragged Glory, he retreats to an old world of steel guitars, gentle folk melodies, and pristine country choruses. (That's Linda Ronstadt, who helped make 1972's Harvest a hit album, singing backup on the follow-up.) Young name-drops Hank Williams, Jimi Hendrix, and his old dog, King, in rich reminiscences about the musical ride he and his fans have shared since the late '60s. The album, as Young sings in "One of These Days," is "a long letter to all the good friends I've known." --Steve KnopperCustomer Reviews:
A return to his folk roots.......2007-04-10
Basking in the Twilight .......2007-04-10
" Harvest Moon" reminds long time Young fans what they love about him in the first place; the gorgeous song writing. Of course the rowdy guitar sometimes takes center stage, as well as deference to the acoustic model, but this CD gives equal time to the vocal instrument paired with rolling melodies.
The first two, " Legend..." and " Hank to Hendrix" have a similar tune, but the portraits are different. Young's writing creates a vivid picture of the everyday heroine in " Legend";he then proceeds to plead with the lady he's loved through many genres in " H to H".
" War of Man" means more today than upon its release. We are in a literal war with the planet, one that escalates every day. Assaulting humanity, torturing the environment. Oh yeah, we are " Living With War."
" Harvest Moon" is a beautiful love song; don't listen to the naysayers who tag it as middle aged drivel. In fact, most of these songs seem more genuine than other works, and with Neil Young that's saying a lot. Young always bears it all, but the songs featured here demonstrate an ability to continue to grow while reflecting on where you've been. That is the ultimate we can ask from a singer/songwriter.
Neil Young observes and creates. With " Harvest Moon" he also mellows, painting a picture of fall in its finest form.

Album Description
2007 UK pressing of this two-fer from the talented and beautiful Country legend featuring a double dose of her classic albums on one CD. The albums featured in this series were all originally released during the most creative and successful period of her career in the late '70s and early '80s. All I Can Do was released in 1976 followed one year later by New Harvest...First Gathering. 20 tracks total. Sony/BMG.Customer Reviews:
2 very enjoyable mid-70's Dolly albums.......2007-08-07
"All I Can Do" contains the hit title song, a cover of Emmylou Harris' haunting "Boulder to Birmingham", the perky "Hey Lucky Lady" and "I'm a Drifter", and a song called "When the Sun Goes Down Tomorrow" which includes some lyrics that would find their way into a hit Dolly single some seven years later when they were repeated in "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Best track is "Shattered Image" where Dolly shares her typical country folks wisdom about "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones", but does it in such a joyful way that it isn't the least bit preachy.
"New Harvest, First Gathering" represents the mid-line between her early 70's "country" albums and the late 70's "country-pop" ones. She remakes Motown and Jackie Wilson on one hand, yet has the knee-slapping, hand-clapping singalong "Applejack" as well. "Where Beauty Lives in Memory" shows once again, what a gift Dolly has for lyrics and beautiful writing. The capper is "Light of a Clear Blue Morning"- one of my personal favorite Dolly tunes- an inspirational ode to overcoming despair and obstacles that transforms itself from a beautiful near-ballad with images of new mornings and flying eagles into a pre-disco mix of backup singers, bouncing keyboards, and thumping percussion. It wasn't one of her biggest hit singles, but it is one of Dolly's most ambitious and entertaining records of the period.
Of the three collections released recently of 2 Dolly LPs on 1 CD, this is the top set, a great example of the time in the 1970s when country and pop music found the lines dividing them were easily crossed over.

Album Description
Every obstacle, every struggle, and all the negativity you may experience in the big city holds true even in the backwaters, away from the neon lights. Each has its mirrored examples of hate, anger, and pain. But these things are merely seeds to be collected, planted, and then harvested. At the end, you reap what you sow.Boondox brings to the rap scene a rural underground sound that is more intense, more gritty, more real than the urban beats you hear on the radio. This bold new artist, backed by the proven talents of Psychopathic Records, will cause the rain to fall, invigorationg the seeds of hardship. The Harvest calls for a new era that will return life back to the rap scene.
Boondox brings the southern USA style of rap to Psychopathic Records, creating a brand new fusion to the industry.
The Harvest incorporates the production talents of the legendary Mike E Clark of Funhouse Studios.
The album features guests from the Psychopathic Records family, including Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid Blaze, and AMB.

Psychpathic's Savior.......2007-03-22
BOONDOX brings a well needed revival in the label.
Simpley put, this album is the BEST album released from the record lable since Jeckle Bros. PERIOD!! Don't get me wrong, COLTUN GRUNDY, CHAINSMOKER, PHATSO, and CALM ep were AMAZING!! But Boondox just tops them all, giving that extra push to make an album where each song is just as memorable and deserving of praise as the last.
Some of the best moments on this album are the guest shots, LADY IN THE JAGUAR, RED MIST, and my personal favorite, THE HARVEST. I always thought BLAZE, as amazing a solo artist as he is, was a very good guest artist. Along with Twiztid, ICP, and AMB, Boondox seems to bring out the best in them, that good ol' feeling from back in the day when things were done right.
If you are a disgruntled PSY listener, PICK THIS ALBUM UP NOW!!!
Wow.......2007-01-19
I must admit though, I was apprehensive at first when I heard about Boondox. A southern rapper signing with Psychopathic?! Didn't this go against everything the clowns have been preaching over the past few years?! And he's a scarecrow! What the hell?! That's even worse! But I am so glad that I gave him the chance. I am without doubt that he is the future of Psychopathic Records and will one day rule in place of ICP and Twiztid.
BUY THIS ALBUM!
Southern' Fried EVIL.......2007-01-16
It isn't.
Boondox is perhaps the freshest, and without a doubt most WICKED new artist on Psychopathic in years. Lately, alot of the Hatchet's stuff has been going in new directions (i.e., The Calm) or staying in the same direction but being far, far too soft (i.e., Blood In Blood Out). But Boondox makes me, as well as many of my juggalo homies, go back to a simpler time in our lives, a time when we'd get home from a crappy day at school, close our bedroom doors, and crank ICP or Twiztid as loud as we possibly could, venting off anger and frustration. Boondox is a return to classic Horrorcore Rap- raw, edgy, cold, vengeful, and sometime just downright evil. At the same time, it has an opposing meaning to it, something between the lines, something pure. And at the same time, the Skarcrow is experimenting with the style (as are his producers, particularly Mike E. Clark) and offering the music from a "country" perspective, making all us southern juggalos feel even more at home with the Family. I'll give you a breakdown of the album:
1) Intro (N/A)--Some clips from Children of The Corn and such. Just an intro.
2) Seven (5/5)--DAMN. This is probably the best "introduction" track on a Hatchet album EVER. Boondox is a really good rapper, but it's the killer chorus that makes this track awesome
3) Out Here (4/5)--Basically a song reppin' the south. Great track, and once again, great chorus
4) It Ain't A Thang (5/5)--Boondox's version of the classic Psycho Sex Song. As is expected, it's vulgar, but it also has a lot more meaning than other sex songs of the breed. VERY southern beat.
5)Diggin' Myself Out (5/5)--For some reason, this track isn't listed on the back of the jewel case. But whatever. This is a deep, wicked track that looks deeply into the subject of death and why we fear it. Some might call this kind of song "classic Psychopathic"
6)Lady In The Jaguar (5/5)-- Hysterical song featuring ICP and a wacky 70's Funk beat.
7)They Prey With Snakes (5/5)--The album's "single". AWESOME beat and a lyrical topic that I don't think has EVER been rapped about in, like, the history of rap.
8)Rollin' Hard (5/5)--DEAR GOD. This track is EVIL, EVIL, EVIL. It also has a HARD Heavy Metal beat. About Boondox doing alot of drugs ("rollin'") and then buying a prostitute and...well, if I go any further this may not get posted.
9)The Harvest (3/5)--Featuring AMB. Look, I don't hate AMB. I honestly don't. But this is pretty much the stinker of the album. It's really not bad, it just doesn't go anywhere. The chorus is kind of stupid too.
10)Sippin' (5/5)-- A drinking song. Probably has the most southern beat to it of the whole album. Freakin' great song all-round.
11)Lake of Fire (5/5)--This is, without a doubt, THE BEST TRACK ON THE ALBUM. Absolutely atonishing rock ballad (there's only one bit of rapping at all) and metaphorical lyricism. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.
12)Red Mist (5/5)--KILLER collaboration track with Twiztid and Blaze. A music video was made for this song.
13) Angel Like (5/5)--A slow acoustic rock song about love, betrayal, and murder. Excellent conclusion to the album.
Best Psy release in years. .......2006-09-13

It is amazing how the first songs can be played or interwoven into other tunes in an impressive fashion. Every song on this CD can stand on it's own merit - what makes this a 5 star CD is how they all play together. This is one of those CD that sounds better each time you play it.

A little too slick and a little too much Galway.......2004-01-16
Based on the reviews I read about this album, I had high expectations. I am sorry to say that the album leaves me a little cold. The performances are superb, but unspontaneous. Another difficulty is with the orchestrations. In most cases on this album I think the flute just doesn't work. A case in point is Lover's Waltz, which is near perfect in the original Ungar/Mason version. Galway's flute just doesn't exude the same warmth. Another disappointment is Heart of the Heartland, which could have been an interesting conversation between Galway's flute and Ostroushko's mandolin. Instead we get another showcase for Galway with Ostroushko relegated to backup musician--what a shame! The only track I think that works well on this album is The West Texas Waltz, where we get a taste of how a really collaborative album might have sounded. I guess this album makes good easy listening, but it is certainly not the engaging album I would have expected of these folks.
After a year or two of owning this album, I have to say that the performances are even more stale that when I first reviewed it. I wish they'd let me take a star back.
Good for folks who like "easy listening". I like musicians who aren't afraid to challenge each other and themselves. This album had that potential, but falls flat.........
Very Compelling Classy Classical Appalachian.......2003-02-08
Is it the music or the musicians?.......2002-12-07
A National Treasure.......2002-10-20
The instrumentation, as you might expect, is the main feature of the CD. Flute, fiddle, piano, mandolin, guitar. But at what seems to be exactly the right time, Molly Mason and Ruth Ungar (Jay's daughter) voices sing out in harmony. And there is a deep understanding of the music here too, and therefore, much beauty in the sound. The rendering of "Pretty Saro" could stand alone as a classic, but when you hear it in order and against the background meticulously prepared by these musicians, it has a presence that is truly haunting.
I think anyone with a taste for the roots of American folk music will enjoy this CD. It has deepened my appreciation of the folk music of America and even the rural environment where I live in America. The art and craft are impeccable. "A Song of Home" is from beginning to end, thoroughly enjoyable, much to think about, a heritage to keep.

Track list needs work.......2004-01-12
The good: the inclusion of the achingly gorgeous "Lassie Come Home" and the giddy, goofy, dance-around-the-living-room classic "Sensations," two tracks from AV's second album _Afternoons in Utopia_ that didn't seem to get enough attention the first time around.
The bad: sadly, the third album just wasn't very good, and the four tracks chosen to represent it here don't seem likely to convince anyone otherwise.
I say, skip this one, pick up _Forever Young_ and _Afternoons in Utopia_ instead -- hey, they're both available used at bargain-basement prices -- and burn yourself a nice mix featuring the selections from those albums included here, plus "Fallen Angel," "Universal Daddy," "Summer in Berlin," and whatever else strikes your fancy.
Then, once you're suitably obsessed, pick up _Prostitute_ and _Salvation_ (albums #4 and #5), whose pleasures are myriad.

Hallo-wha?.......2006-04-19
Strictly from a Halloween fan's point of view, I can't recommend this except maybe for a kids party. The synth on the tracks really removes any spookiness from the tunes and makes them fall short of Halloween-worthiness. Tocatta and Hall of the Mountain King are some of my absolute favorite classical pieces and here they are given a royal treatment...if they were produced on a Commodore 64, or Casio keyboard for you younger folk.
The FX disc isn't horrible, but it's below the average generic sound fx you find in the bargain bin. Again, not much scary except for the fact that I spent money on this.
If possible, check it out before you buy.

Could have been great but . . ........2004-10-15
If you're a die hard Mannheim fan (as in 'I just have to own everything Chip puts out') I say go for it. But otherwise spend your Halloween money elsewhere. Overall this is a forced and lazy effort.
It's not That bad..........2004-06-14
A lot of the songs sound kind of like low-budget MIDI tunes that are sometimes embedded in websites.. but I think that might have been what the Steamroller was going for. Kind of like a broken Music Box? Anyway, only a few sound low budget, the rest sound good, even a few are a little "eerie" but at the same time, there's a lot that pretty much remind me of something you would hear come out of sesame street toy. The sound effects are great, though.
There's a few songs that are bad. there's a few that are "babyish" but there's also Lots that really capture the mood of halloween and some of it's eerieness. I can't really recommend it for Halloween itself (maybe if you already have every halloween cd already) but I think any Chip Davis fan should give it a listen.
Tries to please everyone.......2004-06-02
This CD covers all these aspects of Halloween, which virtually garantees that no one will like every song. However, I would suggest that you pick and choose the tracks you like from the CD, as part of your overall Halloween soundtrack. You will probably find at least several tracks you like. And of you like Mannheim Steamroller, you will like most of them.

Those tracks are: "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "A Fistful of DOllars", "For a Few Dollars More", and "Two Mules for Sister Sara". "In The Line Of Fire' also appeared on that CD, performed electronically by Mark Ayres.
The next bunch of tracks is from Silva Screen's 1996 compilation, "Cinema Paradise: The Classic Film Music of Ennio Morricone", which included the majority of tracks here such as the extensive The Mission Suite, The Untouchables, Casulaties of War, Once Upon a Time In America, 1900, Chi Mai, Marco Polo, Once Upon a Time In The West (two tracks), Cinema Paradise, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly - Ecstacy of Gold, mostly being conducted by Paul Bateman, with Nic Raine doing some of the conducting duties as well.
Hamlet is from Silva's 1997 "Cinema's Classic Romances" compilation, while "The Thing" is from Silva's 2001 "Essential John Carpenter".
A Fistful of Dynamite - Duck You Sucker is from 2002's Way Out West: Essential Western Film Music Collection Volume Two.
The remaing tracks were newly recorded in 2004 for this release:
Days of Heaven, Exorcist II, Guns for San Sebastian, Moses the Lawgiver, My Name is Nobody, The Five Man Army, The Red Tent, The Men From Shiloh and The Sicilian Clan.

Ennio Morricone was born in Rome on October 11, 1928...attended the Santa Cecilia Conservatory...worked in various jazz bands, later a staff arranger and composer...an orchestrator in the '50s...scored films in the early '60s, then the WESTERNS and his name became a household word in the film industry ~ a new kind of western was on the horizon and Morricone was commissioned to score "A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS" [1964] for Sergio Leone featuring Clint Eastwood, spaghetti westerns were born ~ next "FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE" [1965] ~ and a bigger budget film "THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" [1966], again featuring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and a third Eli Wallach whose performance was magical to watch on the big screen ~ violence and revenge gives Morricone an opportunity to feature electric guitars, flutes and jew's harp blending with a non lyrical chorus mixed with brass, strings, percussion with full orchestration that simply took your breath away...example is "ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST" [1968], featuring Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale, Jason Robards and our hero Charles Bronson the mysterious harmonica player, director Sergio Leone's tribute to the American Western, pulled out all the stops ~ the Western was just a small part of Maestro Morricone's career, in the next paragraph take a gander of just what our icon of film music accomplished.
Our composer didn't stop there as "ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA" [1984], featuring Robert De Niro, James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern, another Sergio Leone film..."THE MISSION" [1986], featuring Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons and Aldan Quinn, is probably one of Morricone's crowning scores receiving an Academy Award nomination, very haunting and classical genre in substance..."THE UNTOUCHABLES" [1987], featuring Kevin Costner, Sean Connery and Robert De Niro during the Al Capone '30s crime organization, Morricone conjures a powerful and dynamic arrangement of his unmistakable theme..."CINEMA PARADISO" [1988], featuring Phillippe Noiret, Antonella Attili and Pupella Maggio from director Giuseppe Tomatore as he recalls his early childhood, the score immediately captures your heart, so tender and compelling as Morricone can only deliver.
City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra featuring conductors Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine, Derek Wadsworth ~ Crouch End Festival Chorus featuring Choir Master David Temple ~ vocals performed by Charlotte Kinder, Marie Kopecka and Jill Washington ~ guitar, percussion and keyboards performed by Gareth Williams ~ all in all did a magnicent job in bringing the music of a composer who wrote for over 250 films, receiving recognition from the industry and fans which was long over-due ~ his work is in constant demand, scoring as many as over a half dozen films as year.
This collection contains an overlay of each cue in Morricone's distinctive style of legendary scoring ~ the man who made this possible, a tremendous asset to every project he undertakes is James Fitzpatrick [producer of the album] ~ symphonic suites with full orchestra fullfilling the "film-score-buffs" cravings for more of the same, just the way we like 'em!
