We received this CD as a gift for my daughter's first birthday, and it quickly became her first favorite music album. In fact, our whole family enjoyed dancing to the CD from start to finish!

The "Swing Classics in Stereo" Album Recorded in 1959 Resulted in Williams Thoughts that the World was Being Taken Over by Rock and Roll and the Old Big Band/Swing Days Are Well and Truly Gone. So He Went to the Studio and Recorded Some of the Great Classic Swing Tunes of that Era. "Put on Your Dancing Shoes" Usually Meant that a Big Band was in Town, So Why Not have an Album Full of Those Great Dance Hall Tunes.

Swing IS King.......2007-05-22

Simply put this is a great compilation of two albums. In the late fifties recording technology finally was able to capture high fidelity sound only to find that- you guessed it, most of the big bands were disbanded. Thankfully not this one. i own thousands of big band recordings and would easily place this in the top 10 percent. The arrangements are not the typical "Best OF.." stuff. The recording is clear with lots of presence, crisp highs, capturing people who are enjoying what they are playing. Don't miss this one!

George Williams and his Orchestra.......2003-10-30

Given the period that the original recordings were done, the quality of the tracks on this CD is absolutely incredible. I had not heard of George Williams until a friend played it for me and I was just knocked out by the clear uncluttered arrangements of the tunes and the fresh approach he had to the many standards on the disc. As an arranger who does transcribing this CD is a dream come true.

999 Lite.......2003-06-15

999 touching? Yes! This is a pretty, plesant album from the same nasty lot that brought you the manic 'Chicane Destination' and the seering 'High Energy Plan' earlier in their career. Please don't expect that if you purchase this CD. Nothing earth-shattering here but that's the whole point. This is the sound of a great punk/pub-rock band relaxing. I think this new CD cover says it all.

"Face To Face" + 4.......2001-05-13

The music on this CD basically consists of the "Face To Face" album (tracks 1 through 12), previously released on the Labritain label back in 1986, plus 4 bonus songs: "Heart To Heart", a non-album track, as well as 3 tracks from the "13th Floor Madness" album but presented here in live format during that album's tour.

"Face To Face" was probably their most "polished" album, a much more radio-friendly effort than its predecessors, but without much success.

The live material is well recorded and previously unreleased, but unfortunately presents a poor performance of the band's singer, Nick Cash, who seems to be consistently out of breath: perhaps he was constantly pogo-ing around the stage.

If you're a 999 fan but don't have the pleasure of owning "Face To Face" on CD, this album is worth grabbing. If you have it, or if you're unfamiliar with one of UK's best punk bands of the late 70's, I would suggest you pass up on this one and/or start elsewhere (give their first album a try!)
