Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars American/British influences yes, but no magical mystery tour.......2007-07-11

Cosmotron borrows from classic and alternative rock, but in its vocals and lyrics maintains the imagination and infectious quality of earlier efforts. The use of mellotrons and way too familiar rock riffs and hooks, at times ignores their own rich and diverse Brazilian music tradition. However, there is a depth and texture to the music which relates well after repeated listens. Best songs are Resta Um Pouco Mais, Pegadas Na Lua, Dois Rios, and Sambatron. Both this and 'Maquinarama' are well-balanced.

5 out of 5 stars Changes to the Best.......2004-07-21

In "Cosmotron", Skank shows the maturation that the band had during these 10+ years of career. They are not more anymore guys that made only reggae-dancing songs and perfomed in shows wearing soccer's uniforms. Since "Siderado" they were changing, and most or that changes was for the best. This applies to "Cosmotron", an album with influences of the English rock, especially Beatles.
"Dois Rios", their first and biggest hit, received 4 MTV awards for its clip, including "Best Clip of the Year" and "Pop Music Choice of the Audiance", beating even the all-grand-trio Tribalistas. No doubts that that song is the biggest hit of the year in Brazil.
"Vou Deixar", "Formato Minimo", "Sambatron" and "Cosmotron" are also very good, excellent songs to hear, apart that all the CD is well-made, with songs that have both good lyrics and words. Do not miss the CD if you are a phan of the band or are looking for an excellent CD of brazilian pop/rock. You won't regret that.

5 out of 5 stars Not just a surprise.......2004-05-27

I just bought this CD, looking for some contemporary Brazilian rock music. For those like me who have had the opportunity to listen in their teens to Kid Abelha, Paralamas, and some other great Brazilian bands, it was really not a surprise to find really good music.
This CD has some elements that remind me of Beatles sound in some songs, but also there is some contemporary sounds as well, that makes them have a personality of their own. And when I say Beatles, do not think of "old", think of "classic". I recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Cosmotron - filled with Beatles and 60's sounds.......2003-12-15

I'm not used to rave Brazilian rock CDs. Especially nowadays. But, wait, I've just heard Cosmotron, by Skank. I'll tell you what: it's a great contemporary piece of music filled with Beatles sounds, some musical references with touches of eastern music and Sixties sounds.
I know it's in Portuguese, but you won't regret listening to the music. Better; you'll regret if you don't listen to it.
We have bits of Tomorrow Never Knows, Fool On The Hill, Dear Prudence (of course, it's not that kind of Oasis thing which copies note by note - although I like Oasis too, I must admit).
There's a track called Nomade (Nomadis) that's simply amazing, with Indian instruments and stuff. On Dois Rios (Two Rivers)we listen to a very proeminent mellotron
throughout.
Plus: on intrumental and effects bits you'll hear Fender Rhodes, psychedelic drums effects, hammond organ, ADT and many other items.

I'm sure that you'll enjoy this album so much. It's even more rockier than US and UK bands nowadays!
