A must have for any Lucio Dalla fan........1999-06-19

This is the album that led me to fall in love with Lucio Dalla's music. It is a relatively early effort, but it showcases his budding style. Lyrically, it establishes the social conscience of this great artist and musician...celebrating the little guy, the poor and oppressed, the strength of will of the worker and the immigrant, and the lover. Musically, though very tuneful, and though this early effort is heavier on the Mediterranean texture, it is quite daring, featuring the artist play-acting in a few of the tunes ("Itaca," and "Il Colonnello") and effective cinematic sound effects in others (notably, "Ragazzo di Fumo," a pro-environmental-consciousness song). HIT-LADEN; GROUND-BREAKING for the fearless social commentary and self-disclosure, as well as daring musicality and vocal performance. In my collection, it is indispensable. My only complaint: the lp included the lyrics, which are very poetic, and wonderful to have; the cd does not.
