Extraordinary Aritst and Composer!!.......2003-02-13

Definetely Pedro Jesus has broken the barrier in the young Salsa generation. I have purchased "Amar Es Algo Mas" and based on his talent with that CD, I was not reluctant in purchasing this one. I believe this young new artist will be around for a very long time to come and will be heard more often than none. Pedro Jesus is bringing salsa to a new level for us. He's not only his own composer but other artists I've noticed like Tito Rojas, Tito Gomez, among others he has written for. I am becoming a huge fan of this young man and what he has to offer. Aside of being HANDSOME, he's an Exceptional complete artist!! Pedro Jesus, you will go far!!

I love this album. Simple and ecclectic, Stephen Ashbrook is one of the most overlooked artists of our time. I love all his albums and he's even better in concert!

Stephen Ashbrook touches listeners with his gentle, yet powerfully seductive compositions.

All I had to do was put his CD into the stereo, and my girlfriend really liked it! Much better than "Nicki Lamb Blues."

Ashbrook is taking his own path. His music is not some teeny bopper Lip Sync routine. Get ready for heart and soul lyrics.

This is the best record since Blood on the Tracks!!! A simple record, Ashbrook is accompanied only by his acoustic guitar. This is the next David Gray, but his vocals will carry him a lot further. This is the top CD in my collection!!!

Stephen Ashbrook's Navigator CD is the Best of it's kind since Blood on the Tracks!!! The Lyrics are story telling in nature, and seem to relate my my life too. In 1951, talented Cuban violinist, composer, and arranger Enrique Jorrin cofounded Orquesta America, the first charanga band. The ensemble--which featured piano, bass, percussion, violin, cello, and wooden flute--made a soulful, sophisticated, syncopated sound called the cha-cha-cha, whicht captured the fancy of music lovers from Havana to Harlem. This CD features the current roster of the marvelous ensemble. Their elegance sounds as fresh today it did a half-century ago, especially on the ballroom-ready tracks "Cha Barroco" and "Cha-Cha-Cha para un Flautista" (the latter of which showcases the group's formidable flutist, Manuel Francisco Sanchez Wanbrug). ORQUESTA AMERICA- "SABOR PROFUNDO".......2002-01-13

This is yet another CD by yet another group in present day Havana who decides to call itself "Orquesta America". However I find this new musical effort a vast improvement from other previous recent ones, which in my opinion, missed the mark.
Listening to this new album it is obvious that America's new director and bass player Jorge Machado Duran has added his great musical expertise to the musical arrangements and sound of this great charanga ensemble, a much needed improvement. The strings, percussion, piano and chorus are impeccable. The orquesta's flute player, the dynamic Manuel Sanchez Wanbrug masters his instrument, leaving nothing to be desired and matching the talents of all his America predecessors. I recommend this great album and I hope more "REAL RHYTMS" CD's by Cuba's great new "ORQUESTA AMERICA" are forthcoming, along with a world tour!

An undeservedly forgotten musical gem........2003-10-22

Originally issued in 1982, "Profundo" was Cheo Ferliciano's final Fania release--while not a strong seller it's very satisfying (musically). The breathtakingly-beautiful bolero "Cantandole A Las Cosas Que Se Olvidan" more than justifies buying this Cd but "Isabel De La Noche" and "Periodico De Siempre" are also standout numbers. Cheo is undoubtedly one of Puerto Rico's greatest singers.
