4 out of 5 stars Great Tracks!.......2005-05-11

Obscure isn't the half of it - these tracks are downright hard to find! Eastern European jazz, other lost vinyls and tracks is where Cosmic Sounds really shines. As someone else stated, you don't have to know the originals to enjoy this one. This is the same release as the other "Cosmic Sounds Remixed".

I picked this one up mainly for the Arkestra One remixes and b'cause of the Jerome Richardson song. Nicola Conte did a fantastic remake to the cut that's so cool. Slight vocals, great musicianship, great, great, feel. Ennio Styles had a nice take of "Cubano Chant". It has some neat electronic touches over a sort of live sounding cut. Then you have Eddy & Dus remaking "Filling it With Song". But another mix that blew me away was Gak Sato's remix to "I Really Want You". The original was so cool and smooth, the new one is just the same, although with a bit more jazzed up affair and given a quicker beat.

I highly recommend this! I love it, been listening to it since I found it in the record shop. Those weren't even all of the great songs on the album. There's some other cuts on there with broken beats and abstract interpretations. But the general vibe of the CD is very consistent. Well done, a great piece of work! Heck - check the remake to "Balkan Express"... great. If you dig this, check out some of the jazz series done by Gilles Peterson and Phil Asher - if you like obscure, check Rainer Truby's Glucklich 1 and II. Oh - and maybe check volume two of Cosmic Sounds also. lol

4 out of 5 stars Tight.......2004-01-05

This cd is a really tight mix of old hard-to-find Eastern European classic jazz (60's, 70's) Remixed with modern electronica beats.

This is similar to the stuff you'll find on the Verve Remixed efforts. You could also compare it to some of the popular stuff on the Jazznova JCR Compost labels. It's got that jazz-head vibe to it.

You don't need to be familiar with the original recordings, which are very obscure.

The sounds are very fresh, with nice quality remixing work. Overall solid.

Order it from the Cosmic Sounds website if you're interested.
