Product Description
A quality selection of lush, down tempo Braziliana. Sensual & soulful, with fresh beats from Rio, Sao Paulo & London. Brazilian Melt is where the modern meets the timeless, where Brazil meets electronica & where you'll find Arto Lindsay, Max De Castro, Moreno Veloso, De Lata & many more. 2002.
What pulled me to this album was a particularly hard to find track by Christian Franck and Marc Brown, or 2/3's of Smoke City. Their track, "Hawai", has an almost Brazil twinged middle-Eastern track, if you can imagine! While it's not the strongest song I've ever heard of them, it does have a noticeable Smoke City flavor to it that I really miss hearing when they performed together. But Smoke City as a collective (with Nina Miranda) do feature with a tune taken off of their 2001 album "Heroes of Nature" with "Can You Feel That". Great track! The other songs on the CD that I enjjoyed were Moreno Veloso+2's "Deusa Do Amor", mad smooth. And Arto Lindsay's "Pode Ficar" was stunning to me - it takes you to a sunset in the Brasil countryside. Da Lata's "Inae" is also very spirited and Marcos Valle's "Para De Fazer Besteira" is given the 4 Hero treatment with broken beats. I dig that track... it's funky and still seems fresh to me. Incognito's "Fearless" was a nice wind-down too.
I can recommend this one. Not all of the songs are so original - although I dig the track, Suba's "Felicidade" has featured on quite a few comps at this time and beyond. And I was never a big fan of Max De Castro when he sings. But the originality of some of the other songs is impressive as I have to admit, it's not very often you'll see some of the artists here on the cookie cutter comps that prefer to go the conservative route. So check it out & enjoy! And of course, if you dig this, check out work by Da Lata, Smoke City and Suba along with a few other electronic twinged comps like the early days of Break & Bossa and Trip Do Brasil.
