A complex and fascinating release from saxophonist Modirzadeh, whose view of world music is totally original. Composing and performing in the modern jazz arena for over a decade, touring and recording on an international level, and performing collaborations with Fred Ho’s Afro-Asian Ensemble, and Peter Apfelbaum’s Hieroglyphics Ensemble with Don Cherry have given a platform to Hafez’ highly personalized style of writing and playing. He is the recipient of several National Endowment of the Arts grants, one of which lead to the debut of "The Peoples Blues", the first Persian-American jazz suite.

My favorite song by yarbrough & peoples. Don't stop the music, it seems all the groups or artist of the 80's who had the title of their songs with the word "music" in it had a smash hit. Need I say more................

Don't Stop The Music!.......2002-02-07

The "Best Of" compilation is great. It features all of their hits from the late '70s through the '80s. Classics like "Don't Stop the Music", "Don't Waste Your Time", and "I Wouldn't Lie", are dancefloor classics through and through. I have a couple of their albums on vinyl from when they were released, but I still found this album enjoyable because it contains all of their hits on one CD. The mastering is great too, not screechy or tinny sounding.

Yarbrough&Peoples are Really Talented but One Song Overrides everything else about them and that song is The Funky at the Roller Skating Ring Jam Don't Stop The Music.two of us&Heartbeats are tight songs but Don't stop Towers above everything else.still this is a Pretty Good Disc.

The singing duo of Yarbrough and Peoples burst onto the music scene with the million-selling single "Don't Stop the Music," a sinewy slab of synth-based R&B/funk that was ahead of its time and had a far-reaching influence in the years following. Guilty is considered to be their best album. Issued in late 1985, the release was ample proof that the duo could come through on both dance cuts and slow jams. The gritty funky title track was a number 2 R&B hit and has one of Alisa Peoples' best vocals. Produced and co-written by label mates at the time (Jimmy Hamilton and Maurice Hayes of the group Prime Time, "I Owe It To Myself"). Hamilton and Hayes also did the follow-up, the rousing # 6 R&B smash, "I Wouldn't Lie." The third single from the album was the delicate ballad, "Wrapped Around Your Finger." Other highlights were the breezy ballad, "I'll Give Anything to Have You Back" and the snarlingly funky "Anytime." Features two bonus tracks.

A nice tribute, but..........2000-05-24

Obviously, when you die you have to stop making records (unless you're Jimi Hendrix, but that's another story). And the only way to keep your songs alive is to make sure that your pals keep singing them. This concert, recorded around 1977, brings together some of Leadbelly's friends and acquaintances, who then pay tribute to the man by basically phoning in their performances.

We get decent, but not stellar performances from Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, who by this time were pretty much sick of each other and on the verge of breaking up. Sonny introduces "Poor Howard" by telling a story that even Leadbelly once said was wrong; Pete Seeger, an old friend, appears to be embellishing the stories he tells, too. His performances of "In the Pines" and "Bourgeois Blues" are pretty good, though.

The only really great performances here belong to Arlo Guthrie. Always a showman, and clearly standing in for his late father (since he's way too young to have any kind of recollection of Leadbelly himself), he works the audience with "The Grey Goose" and keeps things bouncing along with "On a Monday." He then stays at the piano for the obligatory group finale with all the performers present.

If you collect any of these artists, then by all means buy this. But otherwise, get a real Leadbelly album.
