Cantando Um Samba

Editorial Reviews

From Jazziz
Filó Machado is about as well-rounded a Brazilian musician as there is. Not only is he a singer, composer, arranger, vocalist, percussionist, and guitarist, but he also has synthesized virtually every Brazilian music idiom of the past 50 years. Born in 1951, Machado came up in São Paulo, where he performed with such noted artists as guitarist Rosinha da Valença and vocalist Simone. In the mid 1970s, he performed in famed singer Alaíde Costa's band. In 1978, he released his first album. The 1980s and '90s brought collaborations with composer/guitarist/vocalist Djavan, and singers Joyce, Flora Purim, and Jon Hendricks, among others. Machado's latest album, Cantando um Samba, comes from Malandro CD.

5 out of 5 stars ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~Great Brazilian Jazz ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~.......2002-10-25

...Filó is a superb artist; in some of the cuts in this Album is just him and his guitar in multiple-recording and that's the perfect show-case for him. My favorite cuts are: "AGUA VIVA" (great song with the typical Brazilian Jazz scatting like Celso Miguel), "TEMA DISTORCIDO" (Fantastic vocals in multiple-recording - was described in the liner like: Take 6, but I think Filó's technique is a lot better considering it's just him), "PAM PAM" (It'll be hard you can find a freshest song around) , and "TAKE 5", (I think you can have Al Jerrau's version of this super-classic mixed with George Benson's and you'd probably would come close to Filo's version).
If you're into Brazilian Jazz or love Brazilian rhythms, this is absolutely for you !!!

5 out of 5 stars Don't sweat it, just let it, you won't forget it.......2000-06-03

Although the best tracks on this CD are the ones NOT activated, lovers of Al Jarreau, George Benson and Baden Powell should buy this immediately. Filo is a guitarist-singer-songwriter from Sao Paulo who's been making wonderful, light-hearted and highly accomplished jazz-tinged pop albums for over 20 years. This is one of his best. It's totally unpretentious, endlessly melodic and the equivalent of spending a sunny day at the beach with someone you love dearly. Lots of carefree scatting up and down the scales, and his solo guitar/scat version of "Take Five" swings like crazy. This album is pure sunshine.
