I gave this to my aunt for christmas and she raved about it. It's a great fit for tropical christmases. We don't see much snow in south florida and steel drums add a nice flair with the tropical setting.

It may just be me, but I was disappointed in this album when I received it. It just wasn't what I hoped it would be...most of the songs sounded similar and I believe I could have made a better choice. I guess I was looking for a little more "Buffett" in my Caribbean than I felt like I received with this selection...to each his own.

I really enjoy listening to Xmas classics on the steel drums. It really is 100% steel drums on many songs, with no vocals.

I would give this item 5 stars if the recording quality were great. Unfortunately, it sounds rather old and thin.

Even so, I'd buy it again knowing the way that it is.

Got this CD for a Caribbean themed Christmas party that I hosted! It was GREAT! It really gives you the feel of being in the Caribbean and all of your favorite Christmas songs! We even did the limbo to a few of them! If you want a true taste of the Caribbean at Christmas... this is the CD for you!

I may not be an expert on steel drums, but I do listen to Jimmy Buffett a lot! He has a great steel drum drummer. After listening to this cd, I gave it away in a white elephant gift exchange this past Xmas.

These guys are awesome in their endeavors to create harmony, melody, and rhythm with steel drums and other percussions. I wasn't disappointed in the various traditional as well as comptemporay songs that are being played on this cd. I would highly recommend this cd for steel drum lovers, lovers of percussion music and those who enjoy instrumental or caribbean jazz.

Great Classic Party CD.......2005-08-02

Saw these guys playing at a mall in Marin around 1990. Bought their CD at that time...the one I'm reviewing here. It is simply great. Its been played over and over on countless vacations and parties. Today, 8/1/05, I'm playing it at the office and all are loving it. Buy this!

Brannan Lane has created a wonderful, relaxing, CD. Amazing memories of the Barbados flood my mind whenever this CD is spinning. Sitting back, closing my eyes - I can picture the white sandy beach with the swaying palm trees - remembering all the "fun in the sun".

This CD is professionally done and captures your imagination of the Islands. Brannan has become one of my favorite artists. Caribbean Dream is such an uplifting experience, and makes me smile. I love all the detailed and intricate sounds, and am amazed how it all comes together into a wonderful compilation. It is hard to pick a favorite track, but here are some of my favorites: Market Sq., St. Tom Tom, Caribbean Sea, Rasta Pasta, Rain Forest, Distant Past, okay.....all of them! A Great Recording........2007-06-14

The reviewer who called this album "bad, bad, bad" is wrong, wrong, wrong!
I own it and find it absolutely delightful. Why does he say: "Pan is not from Jamaica, but from Trinidad"? The album is entitled: Steel Drums of TRINIDAD! Not Jamaica. HELLO!!!!! And he wants people to go to another website and order steel band music that he recommends. Why bother? This recording may not be as new or as "trendy" as he would like, but who cares? This is an older album, recorded before digital sound, but the music is great. No background noise, great playing, lots of spirit. And it's certainly not out of tune. I sure don't hear any clinkers or off notes on this cd. Just good traditional steel band music at a reasonable price.

Saying that Pan has come a long way and this shouldn't be heard and enjoyed is like saying rock music has come a long way so we shouldn't listen to those bad old Buddy Holly records !
Yes, steel drums and players have changed greatly in the last 30 years and make a much clearer,"prettier" sound now than in the 50's and 60's. But there are precious few hi-fi recordings of the early steel bands and players out there, and they are fascinating and fun.

If you are buying this CD as a historical souveneir, great! Otherwise, don't waste your time. The "steel drums" or "pans" sound horrible and are very out of tune! Just listening to the clips on Amazon made me cringe! It also sounds like it was made in 1950. Pan has come a VERY VERY long way since then and this cd doesn't even come CLOSE to portraying what pan actually IS. I am dissapointed that this cd is on the tops sellers list because that means so many people are buying that which is a horrible representation of a wonderful (and my favorite) artform! And a few notes to those who don't know a whole lot about pan:

1. Pan does not come from Jamaica. The birthplace of the steelpan is Trinidad and Tobago. Period.

2. There is more to this instrument than 5 guys wearing hawaiian shirts while playing yellowbird on a cruise ship.

3. If you want to hear real pan music go to ecaroh.com Pick something by Exodus, Phase II, All Stars, Desperadoes, etc.

steel drums produce the most soul searching sound. if you are unable to go on vacation this is one way to feel like you're in some far away tropical place. Can't wait to play this c.d at my pool party while i serve margaritias and find some time to sit in the jacuzzi and forget my troubles.

If you need an intro to steel drum music, this is a fun place to start. I borrowed this on a 33 record over 10 years ago from the library and I've been searching for it all this time. I don't think it has anything to do with laserlight, and I find the quality to be just fine!

This CD appears to be a (legal?) copy of the "Steel Band Music of the Carribbean" on the Laserlight Label. Same exact cuts by the same musicians but a slightly poorer quality. Packaging appears bogus.

Two classis panorama tunes.......2004-04-26

This CD is worth the money for the two "classic" panorama arrangements - Woman is boss by Boogsie and Pan by Storm by Professor. Both arrangements capture the power and excitement of panorama in Trinidad and Tobago. If you only have one CD with steelpan music from panorama this one should be it!
