I was in Rome this summer with my husband and songs from this CD played often on the radio and on Italian MTV. Thankfully a merchant wrote down the name of the artist when I inquired about the song and I was only able to find the CD for purchase at [...] so I am a very pleased customer.

Its a little better than 3 but..........2006-07-20

After the release of his live album you would think Ligabue would move to a more intricate musical direction but instead he delivers a steady guitar driven rock record with solid production values... it does fall short of some of his previous material but not that far off, happy hour is probably that low point but still has more rock n roll in it than some of the stuff coming out in the US market... So if you like LIGA its worth listening to

Wow..........2005-04-28

I wasn't sure if I should get this CD, as I don't speak Italian, but I decided to, and I am so glad I did that it angers me to think that I almost didn't buy it because of the language barrier... when in reality good music surpasses it.

i admit that this set is a bit pricey... but it's 100% worth it.

Also, the fact that it's a live recording may throw you off... but think of it more as a greatest hits album, as the sound quality is surprisingly good, and there is a minimal amount of crowd noise.

This CD is a must have for anyone that likes Italian music, or adult alternative/rock in general.

Second best Ligabue is still pretty good.......2003-09-05

The first two songs on the album, Sono Nato Per Me and Fuori Come Va, are as good as anything Ligabue's ever done, classic rock with a great beat and melody, and the sound quality is a lot better than on some of Ligabue's earlier albums. The quality of songs slips afterward, however, and Ligabue just seems tired, both his voice, with a lot of sliding off at the end of notes, and his songwriting, in which he seems to be repeating himself. Il Campo delle Lucciole, in particular, really sounds like a second rate version of Balliamo Sul Mondo from his first album.

If you are already a Ligabue fan, you will find this album enjoyable, but disappointing. If you are new to this classic Italian rocker, you'd be better off trying either Ligabue, his first album, or Buon Cumpleanno Elvis first, since both are superior efforts. Still, this is better than most American rock, and the first two songs alone make it worth a listen.

Classic ligabue style.......2002-08-25

Ligabue's latest release has several short comings that caused it to lose the fifth star in my book. While vacationing in italy i found myself channel surfing one day and i saw a live ligabue concert on rai due. I immediately fell in love with the bands sound and character, as well as zanny yet powerful songs. However many of the songs rely heavily on slang and play on words, which makes understanding very difficult for the average american listener. Also many of the best songs are explained much more in depth by their music video, and as i have yet to see an italian song on MTV...However ligabue is good enough that their lyrics do not need to be understood, the music can just carry you away.

3 Great Knights.......2007-04-29

I have owned this recoring for 35 years on vinyl and CD and also saw Sir Georg and Sir Geraint in the Zeffirelli production at Covent Garden: it has always been my favourite version of my favourite Verdi. Sir Georg brings brilliance and sparkle as well as lyrical loveliness to the snatches of melody and Sir Geraint's is a richly rounded portrait of Sir John. The highlight of the recording is the duet with Robert Merill, terminating in Falstaff arriving "in his Sunday" best: the violin melody here is a delight.

Wonderful Recording .......2006-07-23

If you love this opera, which I do, then this recording must be a part of your collection. I gave it four out five stars only because Solti seems to be confusing energy with a bombastic approach. There's nothing subtle here about the conducting.

Soloists are first class and what a cast it is.

I have another reservation abou the recording and that has to do with engineering. The recorded sound is at times muddy. There's distortion too here and there which have to do with the master tape used. It's an old recording but it is too bad Decca couldn't find a better master.

Wonderfully diverse.......2001-02-11

Recorded live from the Parco Novi Sad, in Modena Italy, on 20 June 1996, this is another of Pavarotti's wonderful concerts to benefit children who are caught up in the horrors of war. Some of the worlds best performers have gotten together for a diverse musical experience that defies language barriers, as well as musical genres. Practically everything is covered on this album. From rock, pop, classical, blues, sacred, jazz and latin...it's all here. Whatever your musical preference, this is an album that should appeal to all in it's diversity, and considering the worthy cause, a necessity for music lovers. And where else will you be able to hear Pavarotti exercising his chops with the likes of Eric Clapton, Liza Minelli, Sheryl Crow, Jon Secada, Joan Osborne and Elton John! And speaking of Sheryl Crow, you cannot miss her singing a Mozart opera aria with Pavarotti. She is truly amazing...who would have believed it. She more than holds her own with the maestro. This is a must have.

Incredibly life-affirming! Musical diversity at its best........1999-06-12

This CD has two levels of depth. Listen to it as blend of Euro-pop and US big-names, THEN try again.

"Holy Mother" travels from its prayer for strength to the junked-out streets screaming for survival in "Saint Teresa". On the journey continues to Elton's "Live Like Horses"-- his personal tribute to Versace. There, the classical truly melds with contemporary anthem-- and begs us to be free of our self imposed fences and walls. Food for thought and music to soothe the soul. This collection helped me survive my dear niece's suicide.

The Legend Begins.......2000-08-28

First of all, I have to repeat that this guy is great, has an incredible sense of armony, like Sting, somehow has; there are certain kind of guys which music flows trough their veins, and Ligabue is one of them. This album is Liga's first one, and has great songs that he still plays on his shows, truly classics, like Bambolina and Piccolla Stella Senza Cielo. Also, probably the most positive song ever, called Balliamo Sul Mondo (We dance over the world). It has so much energy. However, I have only given this Album 4 stars because of the rough, low sound, considering that is not such an old album (1990). A remaster wouldn't be a bad idea. I highly recommend to buy this CD, it will give you a perfect idea of the meaning of the word ROCK AND ROLL, and the good one, not the Stones' one.

Ligabue keeps on rocking!.......1999-12-02

Beginning with a fast, rocky adaptation of REM's: The End of the World as we know it -- his new version: What time does the world end? What channel is it on? -- this album is very listenable. Liga's theme is the End of the World and how people will live out the last moments -- or will they just watch the whole spectacle on TV? It combines his ironic style with great tunes, lively songs, and of course 'that voice'!

Ligabue's second album.......2001-03-21

If you record three albums in three years, from which two of them you've been on the road, there's no doubt that you have to be a great musician, a prolific and talented pne. This is the case of the Emilian Musician Luciano, he's an incredibly talented musician. In this album you'll find some Liga's classics, such as SALVIAMOCCI LA PELLE, LIBERA NOS A MALO, and URLANDO CONTRO IL CIELO. It doesn't sound as good as BUON COMPLEANNO, but it definitely sounds better than his first album. To sum up, is the fourth album to buy, after SU E GIU DA UN PALCO', BUON COMPLEANNO ELVIS, AND LIGABUE. As usual, it's a great buy, expand our minds and listen to great music, which can also be found outside the US.

Superb and almost forgotten composer.......2007-04-03

Zandonai is one of the most underrated of opera composers. His Conchita Conchita, Giulietta e Romeo, I Cavalieri di Ekebu I Cavalieri Di Ekebu / Barbieri Sings Arias, and the incomplete Il Bacio all have many lovely passages, but his Francesca da Rimini was his claim to fame and quite deservedly so. From start to finish, the opera is overflowing with beautiful music. Temporarily revived by the Met's production with Placido Domingo and Renata Scotto, it would be very refreshing to see this opera reappear in our opera houses. This live recording from 1976 is a real find. The sound quality is good. Ilva Ligabue (Francesca) has a wonderful instrument and is a fine interpreter of the style. Nello Santi is in his element conducting, keeping the orchestra well balanced with the voices and in tune. The only shortcoming is that there is no libretto, only a small booklet of notes. After the conclusion of the opera the recording includes bonus tracks from Verdi's "I Masnadieri", which are out of place stylistically but certainly welcome. The sound quality is fair to poor (with plenty of audience coughing and some unpleasant grunts) but the cast of Ilva Ligabue, Boris Christoff, Renato Bruson, and an uncredited tenor (Arminio) under direction of Gianandrea Gavazzeni is very good.

Zandonai's Francesca da Rimini has been recorded several times.
The best recording is probably a 1984 TV/Radio broadcast from the Met with Levine conducting. It boasts a fabulous Paolo in Placido Domingo and a riveting Gianciotto from Cornel MacNeil.
Renata Scotto is the Francesca and although she is completely in the role and thrilling at times, the top of her voice is hardly beautiful and at times quite shrill. The recording is available on DVD, but has never been issued on CD.

That brings us to the underrated and under recorded Ilva Ligabue in this French radio production. She simply is the best Francesca to have recorded the role. She is also completely in the role and has the pipes to handle it. She's a true spinto in the Tebaldi tradition. Scotto was more of a lyric soprano who pushed her way through some of the more dramatic roles. Bondino and Protti don't measure up to their Met rivals, but they are more than adequate. Santi's conducting is reliable and the orchestra and other soloists are quite good. Francesca require a committed ensemble and the cast here does not disappoint. Recorded sound is quite good also.

At Gala's bargain price this is a must for opera lovers.
